What does "Tay Nam Bo" mean? Badagnani (talk) 08:23, 28 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Southwest (of Vietnam) BertholdD (talk) 21:00, 29 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, I think that term should be added at Mekong Delta, because it's not there now. Badagnani (talk) 21:18, 29 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Etymology edit

Need etymology of this place name. Badagnani (talk) 16:33, 31 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hà = River
Tiên = Fairy
Hà Tiên stands for "the river where the fairies bathe".--AM (talk) 18:09, 23 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thank you; are there Hán tự for this? Badagnani (talk) 03:49, 24 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Probably 河仙. I have tried to look up in Viet Nam Su Luoc of Tran Trong Kim but , unfortunately, I haven't find it yet.--AM (talk) 15:36, 24 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Move counter RMs and RfC edit

This has to be documented as it is the second time this article has been moved counter consensus:

(cur | prev) 09:37, 15 October 2011‎ Kauffner (talk | contribs)‎ m . . (6,551 bytes) (0)‎ . . (moved Hà Tiên to Ha Tien: Move to non-diacritic form to follow the style of Britannica, Vietnam News Agency, per WP:NCGN.) (undo)

This move was counter RM Talk:Cần Thơ 07 August 2011. And was reverted following confirmation of that RM result at Talk:Cà Mau:

(cur | prev) 11:18, 5 September 2012‎ In ictu oculi (talk | contribs)‎ m . . (6,548 bytes) (0)‎ . . (In ictu oculi moved page Ha Tien to Hà Tiên over redirect: revert another undiscussed move contrary 3 of 3 geo names RMs see Talk:Cà Mau) (undo)

Then:

(cur | prev) 14:30, 11 December 2012‎ Kauffner (talk | contribs)‎ m . . (6,553 bytes) (0)‎ . . (Kauffner moved page Hà Tiên to Ha Tien over redirect: rvt per WP:VIETCON) (undo)

"WP:VIETCON" is a draft under discussion and this second move follows a RfC with 23 to 16 (or 10) majority support for use of Vietnamese names in titles. I am not going to revert move contrary to RM and RfC, but am documenting this. In ictu oculi (talk) 00:22, 13 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
