First song to include profanity

edit

This is not Linkin Park's first song containing profanity. This is going way back, but Step Up on Hybrid Theory EP has the word "shit" in it. I can't remember with total accuracy, but I'm pretty sure there's swearing on Reanimation as well. A more accurate sentence would be "This is the band's first single to include profanity." But frankly I don't really see the relevance of the inclusion of profanity in the introduction at all, so for now I'll just remove the sentence. Saguaro (talk) 20:10, 12 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Stop labeling this as metalcore!

edit

THIS SONG IS NOT METALCORE AT ALL. Killswtich Engage, Old Trivium, that's metalcore. OK? 128.205.164.30 18:08, 4 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

I completely agree that this shouldn't be classified as metalcore, so I added a {{fact}}-template. Please refrain from SHOUTING IN ALL CAPITAL LETTERS in the future, though. Thank you. SalaSkan 15:27, 9 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Lol, this article is ridiculous, we don't need a description of how a freaking song goes. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.106.159.197 (talk) 19:30, 1 October 2007 (UTC) WTf is Metalcore?Reply

this song is metalcore, though linkin park dont have any other metalcore songs, this song itself is. metalcore is a fusion genre of hardcore punk and metal.thats exactly what this song is. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.233.153.132 (talk) 20:48, 25 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Post-HC/Alt-Metal

edit

It's more post-hardcore and alternative metal! not industrial metal or hardcore-punk or metalcore! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.167.204.34 (talk) 11:56, 15 September 2007 (UTC) POST-HARDCORE? That's stuff like Madina Lake, Fightstar and FFAF! Sounds like this? Err, NO Titan50 (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 11:31, 8 December 2007 (UTC) Its not post hardcore or screamo but the guitar does give it a Punk/Hardcore soundJonathonDavisthe3rd (talk) 20:40, 7 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I do not belive that Metal is the biggest genre iin the song. It's more Alternative rock.

Maybe Punk influences since that's were alternative rock comes from, but the point is the song is not metal. Mintues to Midnight does nto have Metal. most guitars are kind of soft like. QWERTY (they should have names it Lies, Your Lies, or Behind Your Lies) is a Heavy Metal song. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.204.91.236 (talk) 01:54, 26 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Actually, alternative metal is kind of like a fusion between alternative rock and heavy metal. This song is definitely one of the hardest on the album and might have punk influences in it. But it's predominantly alternative metal, more so than alternative rock at least. I'm going to change it back. Timmeh! 03:16, 26 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

just call it Alt Metal and mention in the article it has punk influences. Metalcore is like Thrash Metal meets Hardcore. This is Alt Metal meets Hardcore —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.170.94.219 (talk) 02:59, 1 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

-the song is not the "hardest" on the album. None are hevay enough to me consided Metal. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.204.91.236 (talkcontribs)

-It's alternative metal definitely but i could see how it could be considered industrial after reading the article on industrial music. It has a dehumanized atmosphere and uses found objects (keys). And i'd assume people say it's the hardest because of the bridge. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.106.105.242 (talkcontribs)

Alternative rock

edit

It is rock. Not metal. It has no agressive guitar style.

Just a question for the poster above me. Are you a professional comedian? That statement was hilarious! This song is Alt. Metal and that's that! BlueGoat (talk) 13:35, 20 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Kind of contradictory

edit

It's not a full-on contradiction, so I won't use the template, but does this seem off to anyone but me?

This is one of the heaviest songs from the album, (along with "No More Sorrow") and is notable for lead singer, Chester Bennington, screaming for approximately 17 consecutive seconds near the end of the track during the heavy metal-styled breakdown, which he is also able to replicate during live performances.

That makes it sound like he does the 17 second scream every time the band performs the song. Yet, later:

In Live performances, the 17 second scream was only ever done all the way through three times

Am I the only one who sees this as a contradiction? If so, that's fine, I just thought I ought to raise the point. Tromboneguy0186 12:11, 12 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

it's not so much that it's contradictory (although it is) but the whole article is just one big unorganized mess with each sentence more random than the next. maybe the bridge should have its own section? -- —Preceding unsigned comment added by 151.204.13.252 (talk) 22:46, 19 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Someone needs to completely rewrite the article. It is absolutely a mess. Any help would be appreciated, especially from anyone who knows a lot about this song. ╦ﺇ₥₥€Ԋ(talk/contribs) 23:08, 19 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

I reorganized it. I'm going to need your guys' help to patch up whatever's still messed up. Jay59 (talk) 04:11, 23 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Single Track Listing

edit

On the Maxi Single 2, it says that it includes "Valentine's Day' and "In Between" Live. I Can find no evidence supporting this

Punk...

edit

I think we should highly consider putting punk, or a subgenre of punk as one of the genres. It's obvious that's what Linkin Park was aiming for, and that's what it sounds like. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.244.30.198 (talk) 05:44, 26 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Nu Metal

edit

I took Nu Metal off because Linkin Park delibrately focused on avoiding the cliche genre of Nu Metal. The heaviness of the song is covered by Alternative metal, and the tempo and guitar rhythm is covered by Hardcore Punk. Throwing in Nu Metal is sort of irrelevant. By all means, all the songs on the album were Linkin Park's way off avoiding the Nu Metal sound. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 4.68.248.132 (talk) 20:18, 26 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

This song isnt hardcore punk nor Nu-metal

edit

first of all how come its Nu-metal when there isnt any rap vocals in it plus this song is too heavy to be considerd punk for god's sake it has a 17 seconds scream and you guys consider it hardcore punk does this song sound like (give it all) by Rise against hell no and the song doesnt talk about teenagers cause punk songs do. Simply its alternative metal.

you oviously dont know anything about any genres you just listed.nu metal doesnt have to have rap to be nu metal. harcore punk doesnt need lyrics about teenagers. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.163.5.144 (talk) 04:02, 14 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Screamo

edit

Should this song be listed as Screamo. It is highly popular with people who like screamo.-PeRmEtHiUs (talk) 12:11, 1 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Find a source or two and it can be listed as screamo. Timmeh! 20:51, 1 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

'rock'

edit

I think that this song is basically 'rock' with some metal and punk elements. it is not alternative rock, metalcore, hardcore punk/screamo or any of that s@?t! It is 'rock' and has nothing to do with alternative rock or metal. Although linkin park is an alternative band. Not all of their songs have to be alternative. after all, alternative is a genre of rock music. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.245.181.52 (talk) 13:58, 6 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

This song is nu metal

edit

All music is based on sound. There is no sign of Linkin Park saying they tried to avoid nu metal with "Given Up". If the song has the sound, volume, distortion and tone of nu metal, then it's nu metal.

Technically it's alternative metal. Nu metal is a subgenre of alternative metal, and it's basically the same thing except it has hip hop elements, this song has no rapping, therefore it's alternative metal, not nu metal. I call the big one bitey 01:25, 12 March 2013 (UTC)
