15 Million sales edit

I cannot find any proof of this past that article, most of the estimates that exist anywhere else on the internet or other print articles give a generous estimate of each game in the series having at MOST 1 million sales each and most ball parking it much lower. Just going by the common sense of comparing other game series that came out at the time with published numbers, there is no way Gex out sold all of them — Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.6.147.154 (talk) 01:33, 24 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Danny John-Jules? edit

I swear I read somewhere once that Danny John-Jules (the Cat in Red Dwarf) did the voice of Gex in Gex 3. Is this right? - and if so, it should be added. - Tredanse 13:05, 15 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Danny John-Jules provided the voice for Gex in the UK/European release of Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko. I have added the information already. 87.80.126.226 17:16, 9 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Heaps more info & details edit

I've added more detailed information regarding the game, there seems to be a lack of resources and info on the Net for this amazing game series - I will be adding and cleaning the article up eventually. Any help is appreciated! Piecraft 17:08, 9 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Updates! edit

Good job! --87.80.126.226 22:34, 9 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Tone edit

I hesitate to say POV, but it's not precisely encyclopedic or POV, IMHO. 129.44.216.105 23:18, 6 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Split edit

If we're gonna format these correctly, we might as well split the three games apart (And merge Gex 64 with Gex 2 while we're at it). Who agrees with me? --T$ 01:29, 14 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

I entirely agree. I'm not the man to do it, myself, but this article is just heavily confusing, and it definately needs splitting, and then a bit of work on each individual article as well. --Dreaded Walrus 17:52, 26 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

It's a surprise it haven't happened yet, it should have --Dark Dragon Flame 11:18, 18 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Clearly, nobody will object to this. I might as well start on the splitting. Unfortunately, I have not played Gex 1, so someone else will have to do that. As for 2 and 3, I will clean them up and write them in a more formal tone. --T$ 06:13, 11 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'd love to see Gex 1 covered more in depth, so a split article would be the best idea.--Iamstillhiro1112 18:09, 19 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Borrowed tune? edit

In a racing game set in Disneyland (cannot remember the exact title) I heard the same music from Gex 3's Christmas level. What is up with that? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 196.207.32.37 (talk) 16:25, 22 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Question edit

How come they don't make Gex games anymore —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jeremy the hedgehog (talkcontribs) 01:47, 15 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

The game series is no longer alive due to a request by Edios Interactive saying that the game would not fit the new generation, since most of Gex's phrases come from 1990's pop culture. However, there are rumors of Gex 4 floating around somewhere on the net. If I can find it I will link it. Tazdragonff5 (talk) 23:25, 1 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

a shame, no-one gets bored with Gex's phrases. m w (talk) 21:30, 1 August 2009 (UTC)PhthinosuchusisanancestorReply

"most of Gex's phrases come from 1990's pop culture."-Tazdragonff5 It's a pity the 90's culuture ended, you either love it or hate it

Mark Silk edit

Mark Silk provided the voice for Alfred, but I can't find anything on him, how well know is he?m w (talk) 21:32, 1 August 2009 (UTC)PhthinosuchusisanancestorReply

Requested move 12 March 2022 edit

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. The result of the move request was: no consensus. After multiple relists, there is still no consensus as to whether the video game series meets the criteria for WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. Colin M (talk) 18:07, 25 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

– Seems the game series is the clear primary topic by pageviews. While Duchy of Savoy also gets high views, that refers to "Pays de Gex", a region in the duchy that is already only a partial title match. Similarly "Colomby de Gex" refers to a peak of the Jura mountains, and that is also naturally disambiguated. There is nothing that is a direct match for "Gex" that could also be seen as primary. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 20:09, 12 March 2022 (UTC) — Relisting. 🐶 EpicPupper (he/him | talk) 01:06, 20 March 2022 (UTC) — Relisting. Steel1943 (talk) 04:57, 10 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

  • Weak oppose based on long-term significance. There are many candidate topics, not just those mentioned by the nominator. — BarrelProof (talk) 04:00, 20 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
    • What topics? Sultan the Sultan (talk) 04:07, 20 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
      • There's the commune of Gex, the arondissement of Gex, the canton of Gex, the "land of Gex" (which is the English translation of Pays de Gex), the mountain peak, and the poet, to name a few. All of those have been around longer than the video game and will still be notable 100 years from now. Remember that disambiguation is a matter of topics, not just article titles. AFAIK, all of those can be referred to as "Gex", so "Gex" (by itself) is ambiguous. Even for the video game, there are four different articles listed as disambiguation candidates. — BarrelProof (talk) 04:53, 20 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
"Been around longer" is not necessarily evidence of a primary topic. All of those regions are rather small and likely known only to those who live nearby, I am just not seeing the "significance" part of "long-term significance". ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 07:31, 20 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
I never said that "been around longer" is evidence of a primary topic. I'm saying there is not a primary topic. What I'm talking about is evidence of a lack of a primary topic, per the long-term significance consideration described at WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. I believe the existence of several (e.g., those six) topics of clear persistent notability should indicate a lack of a primary topic when considering the recent popularity of a pop-culture video game of no major consequence AFAICT, per WP:RECENTISM and WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. — BarrelProof (talk) 00:21, 21 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
Saying that a video game is "of no major consequence" because it is "pop culture" is clear evidence of bias affecting judgement, which should be noted by whatever admin closes this discussion as well as anyone agreeing with BarrelProof on his assertions. In any event, the series is coming on 30 years old now so it cannot possibly be recentism. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 21:57, 11 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
I don't dismiss video games or pop culture generally – I just don't see any particular special claim of long-term notability for this series. For example, Pong is an important game, as it was the first commercially successful video game. Dragon's Lair also seems rather notable, as it had relatively advanced graphics for its time. Some other games seem relatively important due to very high volumes of usage that have made them exceptionally well known – see List of best-selling video game franchises – a list that does not include the Gex series. The only argument I have seen presented in favor of the Gex series is relative Wikipedia page view popularity, and there are at least six non-game Gex topics that have obvious long-term significance (and three other dab topics within the game series). — BarrelProof (talk) 16:34, 16 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
