His involvement with the Old Guard doesn't endear him to me, but I love this: "to the officer discreetly watching him test a wooden bench [Wootten] remarked: 'When you are my size, Hill, you sit with circumspection'."[1] Hehe. Grant | Talk 10:06, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

And this from Frank Bell's Undercover University:

"[12 September 1945] We had a large parade to welcome Gen Wootten today. The first announcement that we heard was that he had arrived and was having his lunch on board ship. He had a good lunch too, I should say. He had the most prodigious stomach we have seen for many a long day. They say his weight is twenty-two stone."
