Presentation edit

The material I have removed refers to gossip about a person who is the subject of a biographical article in this encyclopaedia. The removed material, hearsay from a newspaper article about a third person, is trivial, unverified, immaterial and not encyclopaedic. Trevor H. (UK) 17:33, 15 March 2018 (UTC)

This article has been badly edited and makes far too many references to his comments on Russia and has not been properly checked, therefore falling well short of Wikipedia's usually high standards Owneyk (talk) 02:15, 17 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Following on from Ownkey, this article is very left wing and highlighting personal matters and certain things which are not relevant to Wikipedia, it requires urgent attention.146.198.36.221 (talk) 23:04, 23 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Accuracy is not left wing, or right wing. Mydaywillcomein2018 (talk) 13:03, 2 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Chief Whip (2016–2017) edit

Can a confirmed user fix the typos in the above paragraph. Thanks. 2A00:23C6:3B89:8A00:C9DE:2751:748A:EF35 (talk) 21:15, 3 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Imported material edit

This article imports material from unreliable external sources which cannot be corrected: Mr. Williamson’s own inaccurate CV and Conservative Party pages. These imports should be replaced with editable material. Mydaywillcomein2018 (talk) 13:01, 2 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

“A” Level edit

Why is ‘A Level’ written “A” Level, like the “A” is in doubt or something? The English exam boards and the press write either ‘A Level’ or ‘A-level’ so surely these are the correct forms? Madeinsane (talk) 11:04, 13 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Madeinsane: The main article to which that Wiki link points: GCE Advanced Level consistently refers to 'A Level', as you mention. So I think it is simply an inconsistency of terminology that can be brought into line. I am sure there will be no objection if you want to do that. This is the only instance within the article. Thanks for pointing this out . Crep171166 (talk) 06:23, 15 August 2020 (UTC).Reply

Teacher assessments edit

The references to teacher assessments are misleading. They suggest that the assessments were made by individual teachers, which was not the case. They were made by groups of teachers but were moderated by senior staff. The correct name is Centre Assessed Grades. Even the government get this bit right: [1]. I’d be grateful if someone would correct this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.243.89.206 (talk) 18:00, 18 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

School Meals edit

"meaning many of those children will go hungry" is speculative opinion. Those who voted as Williamson did do not agree. Without evidence, this does not belong here, so I have removed it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 163.160.2.5 (talk) 10:18, 3 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Williamson's A-level grades edit

The real story seems to be his refusal to reveal them: [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], etc., etc. But it's not usual to include A-level grades in any BLP article, even if they were as poor as Williamson's are alleged to have been. Martinevans123 (talk) 13:34, 11 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Up-to-date edit

This article shows what an up-to-date encyclopedia Wikipedia is. Today (September 15 2021) it was mentioned that Gavin Williamson is no longer Education Secretary on the news, and already, that information is in Wikipedia. YTKJ (talk) 21:11, 15 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Yes, in fact, it went in so quickly that it didn't even have a source. Not sure that's ideal. Martinevans123 (talk) 21:20, 15 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

  Done Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 17:43, 3 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
Everyone who has ever received a knighthood has just had it diminished. The incompetent twat clearly has some dirt on Johnson and it's probably Putin related. Someone will probably censor this comment but it will remain in the archive. 92.40.178.183 (talk) 18:07, 3 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
Can someone insert a space before the last sentence of the lead, please? 87.75.117.183 (talk) 18:53, 3 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
I wouldn't call him a twat. Well, not here anyway. What about "hopeless numpty"? Martinevans123 (talk) 19:29, 3 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

  •   Not done You should go on... because of WP:DAILYMAIL and because one Twitter soundbite is not a good source for this? The piece from The Daily Telegraph, "Sir Gavin’s gong is a national embarrassment", is potentially good, but is behind a paywall. Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 12:21, 5 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Sir edit

What has happened since the announcement on 3 March? I thought we were waiting for the (delayed) investiture before adding this. What is the protocol? Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 19:27, 14 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

knighthood controversy edit

The Wall Street journal reported he walked in on BJ having an extramarital BJ from his now wife while foreign secretary. His current wife was undergoing cancer treatment at the time. 2A00:23C5:6102:D201:A458:B5E3:DB25:892D (talk) 04:13, 6 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Williamson's pivotal role helping Sunak cmpaign to become Prime Minister edit

I put this into the article. DeFacto took it out stating "Most of that is already in the article". Most of it wasn't in the article. Williamson being sacked twice was already in the article, which is why I summarised it briefly. The main part of my edit was "[Williamson] was seen as pivotal when Rishi Sunak tried to get MPs to support Sunak in his first first attempt to become prime minister." and that wasn't already in the article. I restored my version. Proxima Centauri (talk) 11:56, 28 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

You need to construct some context around that then to allow readers to understand whose opinion that is and what role they think he played. And perhaps some evidence that he is believed to have made any significant difference to Sunak becoming prime minister. All reliably sourced, of course, and of due weight. If it is widely believed, then there will be sources other than four or five sentences in a broader article on Independent. Put a draft here and see if it gets a consensus. -- DeFacto (talk). 12:43, 28 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
