Featured list nomination

I have a passing interest here as I created the first stub having visited two churches in the ownership of the Charity. My own view is that it is now an excellent article and a worthy candidate for featured list nomination. I have suggested a very few additional headings to improve readability - please feel free to change or amend or revert. I would be pleased to start the nomination for featured list status provided that I am not barred as the initiating editor.  Velela  Velela Talk   08:28, 4 August 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the comment and edit. I don't feel strongly one way or another about the section headings; let's see what the reviewers think. There shouldn't be any problem about your reviewing the list provided you declare your involvement (it's grown a bit since you started it!). --Peter I. Vardy (talk) 14:15, 4 August 2010 (UTC)

St Michael's Church, Tremain

St Michael's Church, Tremain is listed here, but is not on the FoFC website: Welsh churches

The reference given is to a January 2012 newsletter from FoFC, without a URL. Is this a mistake? Perhaps the acquisition fell through, or they are slow updating their website.

We should remove this entry unless we find a reliable reference (one definitely not derived from Wikipedia). Verbcatcher (talk) 23:38, 18 May 2014 (UTC)

Churches not on FoFC website

In addition to St Michael's Church, Tremain (above), I have found three English churches that are listed here, but are not on the FoFC website: English churches

  • All Saints, Ballidon, Derbyshire
  • St Mary, Long Crichel, Dorset
  • St Mary, Fordham, Norfolk

These all have citations of FoFC newsletters (no URLs). Any ideas? Verbcatcher (talk) 00:59, 19 May 2014 (UTC)

I've resolved one of them: St Mary, Fordham, Norfolk is wrongly listed by FoFC under Cambridgeshire. Verbcatcher (talk) 01:13, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
There are more suspect entries in Category:Churches preserved by the Friends of Friendless Churches. Perhaps the issue is whether the churches are owned by FoFC, in the care of FoFC, or have received a grant from FoFC. Verbcatcher (talk) 01:18, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
I have looked at my hard-copy run of the Newsletter. All four churches are mentioned as vestings, with subsequent progress reports on repairs undertaken. (There's a bit of confusion as to whether the preferred spelling for Tremain is that or Tremaen, but that's a minor issue – it's not on the website under either name.) The problem therefore appears to be with the website; and it seems to be oversight rather than just slowness, as the site does include Llangwm Uchaf, which is a more recent vesting than any of these four. I will try to tidy up some of the references, but in this case Wikipedia does appear to be more accurate than the official site. The latest Newsletter (Jan. 2014) also reports another recent vesting at St Denis, East Hatley, Cambridgeshire, which doesn't yet appear either on the FoFC site, or in this article: I will add it in the next few days. GrindtXX (talk) 01:23, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
Thank you. As you have the newsletters (and perhaps you are a member) it might help FoFC to sent them an email to alert them to this (email address here [1]). Verbcatcher (talk) 02:58, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
I'm sure it's because the website has not been properly updated for some time. I have sent an e-mail to Matthew Saunders, the director of FFC (with whom I have had contact in the past) to try to remedy it. --Peter I. Vardy (talk) 10:46, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
I have now added an entry for East Hatley, and a couple of other Newsletter references elsewhere. Somebody who understands these things might like to check and tweak the geographical co-ordinates for East Hatley: I have just copied those for Hatley village, which probably aren't quite the same. I also note that the FFC page New Vestings, which is cited 5 times in this article (notes 4, 62, 74), is now dead, so that needs to be fixed. GrindtXX (talk) 02:02, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
Coords and dead links fixed. --Peter I. Vardy (talk) 10:27, 21 May 2014 (UTC)

Update needed

The listing of vested churches (specifically in Wales) is getting a bit out of date. Missing are churches at Castlemartin, Pembs; and Gwernesney, Mon (both detailed on the Friends' website); St Dogfael, Meline, Pembrokeshire (vested in October 2017, according to the latest annual report, but not yet on the website); and possibly St Anno's, Llananno, Powys, whose vesting is described as "imminent" in the report, dated 1 Sept 2018.
