Talk:Fort Denison

Untitled edit

Decades ago I remember seeing a movie about Fort Denison - It would have been made in the fifties or sixties I think. There was a bunch of criminals holed up there, threatening to shell Sydney. They were trying to break into the magazine to gain access to ammunition for the main guns.. Anybody know the movie? Would be a worthy mention in the article..--Commking 03:44, 28 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

I found The Seige of Pinchgut (aka Four Desparate Men in the US) on a Google search. IMDB link is here [1]. I don't think I've ever seen the film but I'd be happy to update the article in the next couple of days based on the information already available on IMDB and other sources. amitch 05:31, 28 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

YouTube has an excerpt from The Siege of Pinchgut (Ealing Studios, 1959). Says “Available on DVD through www.umbrellaent.com.au” but is not listed there. However, Amazon lists it (DVD, Region 2). A YouTube search for Four Desperate Men goes to an unrelated film. Errantius (talk) 00:54, 26 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Coordinates edit

The coordinates need the following fixes:

  • Write here

33°51'17.22"S 151°13'32.28"E Resolution 1441 (talk) 02:02, 25 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Current coordinates (26 May 2020) are ok. Errantius (talk) 01:00, 26 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Height of tower edit

How tall is the current tower? It would be interesting to see whether it is taller or shorter than the original height of the island. --PalaceGuard008 (Talk) 09:01, 2 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

According to the infobox of the article Fort Denison Light, and also this site the height is 20ft or 6.1 metres. My guess is that the original height was considerably greater, since it was deemed worthwhile to make a quarry of it. The references also give a "focal height" of 61ft (19m) for the lamp. I dunno what that means. Cheers, Bjenks (talk) 10:27, 2 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Infobox edit

Website in Infobox for City of Sydney gives 404 error. Can't see Fort Denison info within that website to link to. Maybe the Infobox website should just link straight to Harbour City Ferries site for now(timetable section). SignedJohnsonL623 (talk) 11:03, 8 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Now ok - has "Sydney Harbour", which redirects to Port Jackson. Errantius (talk) 01:04, 26 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

This might be petty, but... edit

At the very beginning of this article, the text "Building Details" seems to be sticking out of nowhere. I don't know if this was intentional or not, but can someone fix it? (I tried editing it and I couldn't delete it).

Thanks in advance. Maplesalt (talk) 23:30, 8 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Good point - it first appeared in this change [2] which was quite a big change but I can not see what caused this to happen so I can not solve the problem. Fleet Lists (talk) 00:13, 9 May 2020 (UTC)Fleet Lists (talk) 00:02, 9 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
Well, I've narrowed it down by removing (but not saving) various parts at the top. If you remove the Infobox building template, then "Building Details" no longer shows up. Looking at that infobox, I see nothing that says that. You could ask at Template talk:Infobox building, but it doesn't look like you'll get a quick answer. It might be faster to mention it at WP:ANI - that isn't exactly the right place for the issue, but it's watched by a lot of admins who might be able to either help you or direct you to someone who could take care of it. — Maile (talk) 00:55, 9 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
it was there two years ago, infobox building doesn't like being inside a thing, the place is the building thing, everything else is the embed. Dave Rave (talk) 01:10, 9 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
Hello, I saw the {{help me}} tag, I don't seem to see a question it looks like you seem to have your answer. So, I'm canceling the request. If you need help feel free to ask your questions and remove the -helped from the {{help me-helped}}.Etineskid(talk) 01:16, 9 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
