Talk:Final Fantasy XIV/Archive 1

Future work

I'm done with the primary writing and sourcing of the article. I've decided not to begin writing "Music" and "Reception/Pre-release reception" sections because they would be extremely barebones and stubby. We still don't know how much old music is returning or how much new music was written. The plot section is also still a little choppy and there's no story section yet because there's no revealed story to speak of. Axem Titanium (talk) 03:35, 6 January 2013 (UTC)

Merging

I think this article has to be merged with Final Fantasy XIV article. It's the updated and revised version of the same title. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.228.104.210 (talk) 13:54, 22 February 2013 (UTC)

I disagree. It is not an "updated and revised version", it is a completely new game built from the ground up. In terms of development, it's basically on the scale of creating a sequel. Axem Titanium (talk) 14:32, 22 February 2013 (UTC)
False. It's a 2.0 version. Source: developers...--95.23.218.177 (talk) 21:47, 27 February 2013 (UTC)
False. It's a new game. Source: developers... Axem Titanium (talk) 04:52, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
Yes, it's a new game, but is also a new version, like Final Fantasy III and Final Fantasy III DS (other game with new graphics, new gameplay and a new FF experience). However, FFIII y FFIII DS are included in the same article. A Realm Reborn is a 2.0 version (2.0 was the original name of Realm Reborn) and a new game, both descriptions are supported. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.23.218.177 (talk) 16:29, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

Using the old installation setup package you get the new version, so it's the same title, only with different content, I think we have to have only the FFXIV article that talks also about the changes that happened during the lifespan of the game. If we have two FFXIV articles, we shoud have also two FFVII articles, one for the first version (the japanese one) and one for the International Version (with the 2 ultimate weapons and other contents). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.7.127.222 (talk) 23:02, 11 April 2013 (UTC)

"Using the old installation setup package you get the new version". Where are you getting this information? All we know is that players of the original FFXIV will get a free download of ARR. I haven't seen anyone say that it will use the same installer/launcher. Axem Titanium (talk) 14:04, 12 April 2013 (UTC)

FF14: ARR is the only way to play the game now, you can't choose to play between FF14 and FF14: ARR, so I think we should have just one game with FF14 name in the Final Fantasy template (and one article with info about the original game and the update). It's just a (massive) update, it doesn't have to be considered as a new game, you will still play with your old character.

"Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is not an expansion, it’s not an update to the original. We at Square-Enix consider it a completely new game that we’ve built from the ground up that will give players a completely new experience compared to the original." - Naoki_Yoshida Source: http://www.vg247.com/2012/11/19/final-fantasy-xiv-a-realm-reborn-squares-second-chance/ -- zerohot99 (talk) 09:13, 9 July 2013 (UTC)

It's the 2nd part of the game, it's still part of FF14 (at the beginning it was called FFXIV 2.0) Source: http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/07/26/final-fantasy-xiv-version-20-named-a-realm-reborn# — Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.252.116.109 (talk) 21:51, 24 July 2013 (UTC)

What are you guys still crying about? Regardless of whether it's the "same game" or a "new game", the content met the criteria for splitting into its own article, so I split it out. No additional information is going to change that. Axem Titanium (talk) 23:15, 24 July 2013 (UTC)

When you boot this new launcher and you start the game, you get the "Final Fantasy XIV" title after the first ingame scene. 79.10.121.230 (talk) 19:29, 2 September 2013 (UTC)

Irrelevant. It is a completely new and separate game, and is more than notable on it's own as distinct from the original game that born the same name. -- ferret (talk) 20:31, 2 September 2013 (UTC)

Edit request on 23 October 2013

Vandalism leftover in line: The game supports Japanese, English, French, German, and Horsebird languages. Please fix that troll. 2.84.110.1 (talk) 11:52, 23 October 2013 (UTC)

Done. -- ferret (talk) 12:28, 23 October 2013 (UTC)

Merge proposal

Hi, what about merge this page with the article about Final Fantasy XIV? Now we have:

Final Fantasy XIV (2010) (Original game)

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn (2013) (Patch that remixed and added new content)

Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward (2015) (Expansion Pack)

A page with the style of the article about Final Fantasy XI would be perfect in my opinion (Original game plus 12 Expansion Packs) Druntamah (talk) 15:00, 22 May 2015 (UTC)

Oppose Same reasons as the last merger discussion that was just archive by nom. FF XIV and FF XIV: ARR are distinct games and topics. FF XIV: ARR is not a patch to FF XIV, but a complete rebuild and relaunch of the game. There is no article for Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward so it has no place in the merger proposal, there is nothing to merge. -- ferret (talk) 15:05, 22 May 2015 (UTC)
Agree People that purchased Final Fantasy XIV eventually updated into Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn with the same playable character in the same Eorzea world (mutated thru ingame natural disasters that affected Eorzea) and now the game for PS4 is again branded simply Final Fantasy XIV (with the inlines A Realm Reborn and Heavensward): source amazon: http://www.amazon.it/Final-Fantasy-XIV-Reborn-Heavensward/dp/B00UU0XF5C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1432308144&sr=8-1&keywords=final+fantasy+xiv Zumbor78 (talk) 15:23, 22 May 2015 (UTC)
The reliable sources treat them as separate games, and that's all that really matters here. There's 100s of sources already involved, so it's not difficult to show. -- ferret (talk) 15:36, 22 May 2015 (UTC)
New user with a strikingly similar edit history as the nominator's. Both accounts have a history of removing content without explanation and being reverted for it. Please forgive me if I call you a WP:DUCK WP:SOCK. Axem Titanium (talk) 20:07, 22 May 2015 (UTC)
Oppose. The proposer just archived a lengthy discussion about this very topic and did not provide any new reasoning (or any reasoning at all). As such, I cannot assume that this is a proposal made in good faith. Axem Titanium (talk) 19:56, 22 May 2015 (UTC)

Considering this closed, Druntamah and Zumbor78 are now blocked as socks. -- ferret (talk) 14:23, 23 May 2015 (UTC)

lgbt category

same sex marriage is present, can we add a lgbt category? 66.25.246.226 (talk) 03:53, 3 August 2015 (UTC)

Is it commonly defined as such by third party, reliable sources? If yes, then its possible (though I can't say I've seen this upon casual reading.) If not, then it probably shouldn't. (You've been involved in a number of these discussions now, shouldn't you "know the drill" by now?) Sergecross73 msg me 16:12, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
