name edit
stone recently announced that she would prefer to go by her birth name Emily, rather than Emma. the Wikipedia page should change to reflect this. 81.107.189.48 (talk) 17:42, 26 April 2024 (UTC)
- I agree, with Emma Stone redirecting to it. I came to this talk page specifically to see how Wikipedians would deal with this conundrum. Should an article about a notable person be of the same name they are most widely known by, or by the name they prefer?
- It seems clear to me that in this case Emily's preferred name may win out simply because it is also their birth name. 82.7.129.10 (talk) 22:16, 26 April 2024 (UTC)
- I agree. Article refers to her full name at start of the text so the title should be changed to reflect her wishes. 78.17.187.225 (talk) 07:32, 27 April 2024 (UTC)
- I'm not opposed to the change, but we should maybe wait a little before changing her name in the article. It's not yet clear if people are going to call her Emily or stick with Emma. As per Wikipedia's guidelines, an article name may still refer to someone with their old name if people are more likely to associate them with that name (see Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam's name). We should wait and see how the media and people call her in the next weeks and then decide to change the name or not. Saidjk (talk) 01:12, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
