Talk:Email service provider (marketing)/Archives/2013

Unbearable page

The intent of this page, as stated in April 2009, is clearly to document an email marketing jargon's term. However, for most of the time, this page has been generating confusion rather than clarification: Editors derive the meaning of the term sticking to the meaning of the words that compose it, and alter the page so as to reflect their deductions. See here for an example. Deletion might indeed be a choice.

Against deletion

  • Email spam and email marketing are obviously related, as they are two sides of the same coin. Understanding those issues seems to be a key point in the passage to the digital era, hence it deserves being fully covered by Wikipedia.
  • User:Kbrose occasionally happens to haphazardly oversimplify concepts, as can be seen on previous editions of his talk page. User:PDP-Anonymous is a newcomer who only considered that edit. So this situation is the result of the fortuitous sequence of just two events.
  • The page is not orphaned.

In favor of deletion

  • There don't seem to be enough knowledgeable wikipedians willing to fully expand this subject.
  • Only a restricted amount of users would ever read the page.
  • There are no reliable sources that define the terms used

In case the page is not deleted

An interesting comment by Lukeno94 points out that Microsoft themselves use this term: [1]. However, all references to this page use ESP in the marketing sense that this page was intended to cover. Hence, the question becomes how do we stick to such meaning, given that the other meaning is already covered by Mailbox Provider? It seems that nobody can resist from using this term ambiguously (Microsoft is no exception) but a page can cover one topic. ale (talk) 11:20, 5 April 2013 (UTC)

  • ale, please put these comments in the AfD itself. The chance of them being addressed here is very low. Lukeno94 (tell Luke off here) 13:06, 5 April 2013 (UTC)
