Problematic material edit

This Wiki appears to contain unsubstantiated information which may be false or misleading:
1. According to the Match International Facebook page there were only two founding members of the Match International Center. Dorothy Reitman was not one of them [1]
2. Dorothy Reitman does not appear to have been a McGill University graduate. If she didn't graduate, her "education" there is quite irrelevant to anyone other than a prospective employer and misleading.
3. She is not mentioned in the online history of the Canadian Unity Council as a founding member
Please provide proper citations to substantiate the claims made in this Wiki or remove/clarify them.

1. The Match International reference is a reliable source. The link provided to the Match International Facebook page makes no reference to the founders at all so that page does not justify removal of the reference.[2]
2. The Jewish Women's Archive source refers to her as having attended McGill University. There's no reason not to mention that and you provide no evidence to the contrary. Given that she is 81 years old I don't see the relevance of your "prospective employers" comment.
3. I believe you are referring to this online history which says "In 1964, a group of Quebecers, alarmed by growing tensions between French and English-speaking Canadians, formed the Canada Committee, forerunner of the Council" - no where on the page are *any* names mentioned so the fact that Reitman's name is not there does not indicate anything and does not justify your complaint. 67.70.37.55 (talk) 03:02, 19 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

1. Since The Match International reference is non-existent and unverified by the source, it violates Wiki policy to include it.
2. The Jewish Women's archive is a single unverified source. Most of that information remains unverified on other sites which also include Reitman's biography like the link to her bio on the Governor Generals site.
3. Same as one. If the information isn't stated on the web site it is considered unverified by the source and it violates Wiki policy to include it.
4. Most of the information in this Wiki is unverified at the source and is only mentioned in one site for which we don't know the source of their information.

Therefore much of this material should be removed because it's a violation of Wikipedia's policy on Biographies which requires that all of the information be verifiable. This means that Match International would have to verify that Dorothy Reitman was a founding member of their organization as would others like the Council for Canadian Unity and McGill University.

This problem has been reported here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Biographies_of_living_persons/Noticeboard#Dorothy_Reitman_Wiki — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tobeme free (talkcontribs) 12:37, 14 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

The Match International reference is verified through the Jewish Women's Archive page. Your claim that it is an "unverified" source is meaningless, the source itself is credible. It's not reasonable to expect the Match International website to list the names of every individual who has ever been involved with them and the absence of a name does not mean they weren't involved. There is certainly no requirement under Wikipedia policy that an individual must be named on a group's website in order to verify their involvement with that group. 192.235.252.195 (talk) 13:49, 24 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
The problem was the explicit claim that she was a founding member of Match International not that she wasn't involved. The website lists two founding members. She wasn't one of them. You haven't provided a reference of her involvement (and should) but it is correct so I'm not going to dispute that. Where is the evidence that she held the Chair at McGill? There was no evidence on the McGill site supporting that claim. In addition, 'studying' at McGill is irrelevant unless she received her degree. As far as I know she didn't. Studying could constitute attending for a year and dropping out. --Tobeme free (talk) 13:54, 13 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Kidnapping edit

User:Bbb23 removed the reference to the kidnapping case involving Dororthy Reitman's child - an even that made national headlines when it occurred. His first justification is that the reference is "irrelevant to the article about her" which, to be completely frank, is utter nonsense and his second justification is that it is "still not noteworthy" when clearly the fact that it was a national news story means it *is* noteworthy. 67.70.37.55 (talk) 03:05, 19 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

"Noteworthy"? "Notability" is a requirement for the creation of an article, but neither noteworthiness (a very subjective criteria) nor notability are requirements for content. This isn't a matter of trivia, gossip, or rumour. It's good content and relevant to the subject, namely potentially ANYTHING not trivial about Reitman found in RS. This isn't even a borderline matter and should be included. We'd need strong policy-based arguments for deletion, and "noteworthy" isn't one of them. -- Brangifer (talk) 04:03, 19 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

I've moved the material to an earlier spot in the article so it isn't so jarring. Because the article is so tiny, it doesn't have sections, but I put it with her personal information as it doesn't relate to her work. I also pared it down because, even if you think it's worth including, it was WP:UNDUE, particularly given the size of the article. The focus of the article should be on her work, not on personal events. Hopefully, that will satisfy you both.--Bbb23 (talk) 06:48, 19 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
