Additions to the page

The history and founding is long enough as is. Other fraternities pages include other information that I think would be very interesting to this article. For instance having a picture of the Delt Badge, maybe even the Pledge Badge as well. Also information on the Rainbow Society would be interesting to add. History

Right now I'm about to do an edit and move the *very* long history down below the Mission and Values and the Delt Creed. I'm asking for opinions on whether to remove the history almost entirely in that it is way too long or perhaps even create a separate article for it. 68.204.200.39 The history right now is good. Perhaps we could cut out one of the two (redundant) mottos, or creeds, or whatever they may be, and keep just one. Resonanteye

• • With regard to the allegation of this article being a "puff piece" by not including two examples of wrongdoing by members of the fraternity, the contention is somewhat unjustified, unless we're planning to include as well every bit of information regarding every fraternity, including instances in which they've helped their community. To do so would involve following the news of every single chapter of every single fraternity, posting every occurence ("Beta Tau Chapter did this, Alpha Zeta chapter did this, Chi Iota Chapter was found guilty of hazing, Zeta Zeta chapter started a soup kitchen) rendering the article too long and too detailed to be useful. Including every piece of news surrounding fraternities (typically over 100 chapters in size) would reduce any useful wikiipedia article to a newsletter, with NPOV on both sides of the line, pro and anti-Greeks. If anything, I could envision this kind of inclusion leading more toward the popular anti-Greek point-of-view, conspicuously excluding good done by these organizations. The current article is, like every other fraternity article, a history of the fraternity. I see no way in which this is any more a puff piece than any other similar article. Well of course the Secret Word isn't "Excellent". However, since some half-wit deemed it necessary to post this saying it was "Spam", I felt it would be more appropriate to change it to "Excellent" (which at least will result in a chuckle from many members of the fraternity who are privy to the story of the pledge trying to get into a 'closed meeting' at Karnea (it may have been division conference) by giving the word "Excellent". --> A Chapter Founder. 09:28, 2 January 2009 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.94.228.198 (talk)

Links

Is there a reason not to have links to Wikipedia articles of schools and/or chapters? In the big table where all the chapters and schools are listed?

I see there are a bunch of links in External links to home pages of chapters. I suggest they be put in the table with the chapter name, just the [URL] link without any explanation inside it. That's better than a bunch of hard to find external links below. Gene Nygaard 01:49, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

That sounds great. I'm just glad I'm getting some feedback on one of the pages I've worked on lately. I took out the other three links for states that I first did last week. I'll continue linking cities and while I'm at it I'll transfer the links from "External Links" to in the chapter in the table. Is there a good standard of how those chapter links should look? I did some cleaning of the links in the table today ALPHA and GAMMA MU. I think it looks fine and gets the point across that you can get the information by clicking there. I have more to say regarding chapters below. Moof 08:39, 29 March 2006 (UTC)

Seems like there was a consensus reached here that the chapter links belonged in the table, not in the external links section, yet they were still in both places. I merged them into the table. ENDelt260 16:53, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

Sorting

I agree. Let's keep it sorted alphabetically by school name while ignoring "'University of' and the like". Doing this we may even find some repeats. I found one without sorting, which I will take care of now, and maybe I'll start sorting too. --Eric Jack Nash 18:07, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

Feel free to alphabetize the alumni, otherwise I'll get to it soon. Also, why are the Founders' pictures not showing up (is it just me?)? And I've got to do some verification on the business/philanthropy alumni to see if they still hold those positions. Somebody with a few hours available.. perhaps the best way to organize the lists is to have two in the same style.. one by school name, one by chapter name (each alphabetically). Unless wikipedia has a sorting function I am unaware of! --Bryanwxup 02:19, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

Chapters

It would probably be worthwhile to list all chapters. This table is roughly taken from the Fraternity's homepage at www.delts.org, albeit the older version. Some of the "active" chapters on this table are no longer active.

Due to the current state of fraternity liability, DTD seems to open 2 or 3 groups and close just as many each year. Additionally, many openings are returns to closed campuses. Rather than having to delete or move chapters out of the active list, a section to note their status seems more appropriate.Moof 08:39, 29 March 2006 (UTC)

grammar and convention

I removed all the weird snippets that sounded like bits of instruction on how to write the piece, from the piece. Also I put the creed-motto-whatever the heck that was into quotation marks, where it belonged, and de-capitalized the Words that Were Like That. I also removed all POV stuff from the former member/founding member section. These must be facts that can be verified by an outside source, and someone being "strong" or "powerful" or "committed" doesn't bode well, unless there is a reference that says it. I also move that all red names in the notable section that don't meet notability guidelines get deleted. That is all, hope it was helpful. Resonanteye 15:12, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

John C. Johnson

This article appears to contradict itself. It lists the founder as John Calhoun Johnson in the caption of his picture, but in the accompanying paragraph, his name is listed as "John Calvin Johnson." If someone could clear this up, that would be great.Pygmypony 15:06, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
