Mercury and water? edit
In §Examples, what is the relevance of this following paragraph?
Mercury is disposed of in water bodies during mining, turning the water unfit and toxic.
Is the mercury–water mixture(?) decanted at some point? More context is needed here. oatco (talk) 14:41, 4 August 2020 (UTC)
- I suspect the idea is that mercury is dumped in water, making a toxic-waste mess of the water, which can be resolved by decanting the water off the mercury. The cited ref supports the statement in our article, but I'm not sure how reliable the source is. And I dispute that this actually solves the problem, since elemental-mercury is a known contaminant in water--if it were that easy to make the water completely safe and free of mercury, it would be done. Instead, the Water Quality Association notes that other methods are used to address this contaminant in water.[1] Therefore I think the statement should be removed.
