the family section edit

Considering the regular regard of Castiel as being family throughout the series (such as in season 8, episode 17, minute 33:25) it's clear he should be included in dean's family section. If no-one can agree on an appropriate label for him, how about co-parent? Dean and Castiel are both fathers to jack Kline, who is listed as their son on both of their pages, so I think co-parent would be appropriate.Empress-thing (talk) 23:33, 14 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Do you have a source that meets WP:RS for that? There are plenty of fandom pages for TV shows that don't have the same requirements as Wikipedia for sourcing. OhNoitsJamie Talk 00:00, 15 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, The RS page mentions published sources, in the published source material there are scenes where Jack calls them (and sam) his dads and they call him a son. I can make episode references for these like there are in the references page of the Dean article? And can also get the minute marks/quotes, etc. I'm not really familiar with Wikipedia, at all, I've just been following the back and forth edits and wanted to chime in since I watch the show, so I'm not 100% on what is required/what steps are needed? If it means anything, in the season 13 section of the article, 1st paragraph, it already says "Jack soon comes to see the Winchesters and Castiel as his 'fathers'", so the sentiment that he is their son has already been deemed acceptable for the articleEmpress-thing (talk) 00:28, 15 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
Do you have a source that identifies them as co-parents? If not, it's WP:SYNTH to do so. OhNoitsJamie Talk 00:31, 15 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
I suppose not then, the show doesn't use the term "co-parents", I just thought co-parents was appropriate since they both refer to Jack as their son, and Jack to them and Sam as his parents, separately on multiple occasions, so they are both jacks parents, making them co-parents to each other. But if I can't use multiple sources to show that then I guess by wikipedia's standards that doesn't suffice.

Just in case either do suffice on their own, and since I have them prepared, here's two of the sources and dialogue where the parental relationship is most clear:

"The Scar". Supernatural. Season 14. Episode 3. October 25, 2018. CW. (including previously on) Starting at minute 17:50 Lora (talking to Jack, referring to Castiel): Is that your dad? Jack: One of them, yes.

"Unhuman Nature". Supernatural. Season 14. Episode 7. November 29, 2018. CW. (including previously on) Starting at minute 23:20 Sam (about how Dean is dealing with Jack dying): Y'know he's lost people, we've all lost people, but um... Castiel: This feels different. Losing um... A son... Feels different

Though I will add, and I think this is an important note, Dean does unambiguously and clearly refer to Castiel as being family on multiple occasions. So even if the exact nature of the familial tie goes unlisted/is listed as being ambiguous, Castiel should be on the family list, because textually, it is true and accurate. Here's two of said instances.

"Goodbye stranger". Supernatural. Season 8. Episode 17. March 20, 2013. CW. (including previously on) minute 33:10 Dean (to Castiel): Cas. Cas. I know you're in there. I know you can hear me. Cas... It's me. We're family. We need you. I need you.

"Hells Angel". Supernatural. Season 11. Episode 18. April 6, 2016. CW. (including previously on) minute 15:45 Dean (to Sam): Cas is family!

If these prove nothing in regards to the merit of changing the family status, then either way thank you for your time, I appreciate it. Empress-thing (talk) 02:29, 15 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

It's also worth noting that God compares Dean killing Jack to a father killing his son in the season 14 finale, Moriah. Secondarylocation (talk) 22:20, 23 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Cas is referred to as “family” or as “brother” in the same way people do a close friend. If Cas is listed as family you also have to list Bobby Singer, Kevin Tran, and Charlie Bradbury. Dogsncats9245 (talk) 06:36, 15 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Bobby is listed, he's listed as a surrogate father, rightfully so in my opinion. And yeah, I actually DO think characters like Charlie, Kevin, Jo, Ellen, Claire, and Jody are family. Capital F. It's just harder to make the case for them to be added on the page since they don't have the same "x character is family" lines, that Bobby and Cas have and since society values nuclear/blood families over chosen ones. So I decided to pick my battles for this one particular chosen family memberwho is thus far excluded. They are all regarded as family by the characters, which especially means something when one of the most well quoted lines of the show, almost a tagline at this point is "family don't end in blood". But. I recognize this is Wikipedia and not a fan wiki, So I get it's not looking to actually include every single person that the characters consider to be family, but it feels utterly incongruous to the past 12 years of the show for Castiel to not be in the family section like Bobby is. Dean winchester and castiel are canonically in love and therefore family. They’ve also been together for twelve years (fighting the supernatural together along with sam) so it’s unfair for him to NOT be listed as their family 45.36.48.200 (talk) 00:13, 30 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Jack Kline is not an ADOPTED son. He has not been legally adopted by the brothers, so he shouldn't be listed as family. Same for Bobby Singer. He's not a surrogate father. He has no blood ties with the brothers and he has not legally adopted them. He has not even raised them when they were kids, because they were always with their father. So, Bobby cannot be considered Dean's family. If you want to talk about the "family don't end in blood", well ... you can leave Jack and Bobby in the list, but you should add Castiel too. No double standards. Nephtys59 (talk) 20:23, 3 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Please remove Castiel as partner from family, it is a fandom point that does not belong in Wikipedia. Keroro101 (talk) 07:27, 8 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Paxton Singleton played teenage Dean in season 15 episode 16, and should be included alongside Brock Kelly and Dylan Everret.
