Influence on signing Nani

i have read in several Portuguese literatures, as well as one from spain, that ronaldo had SAf's ear full for nearly two years about signing Carlos Almeida (nani) who not only is his childhood and sporting academy compatriot, but the scottie to his jordan if you will.

i believe that there should be at least a side note on the part their friendship has played in bringing the two wingers together in Manchester, if not the literature which is available to anyone regarding google with the key terms i have used, but also, by the symbolic allowance of ronaldo to nani, in his wearing of his shirt in ronaldo's(short) injury absence.

by the way, these two are such good friends, having seen them out and about together, they get on so well, i think its wonderful that ronaldo is accomadating Nani at his house, until nani has a place of his own. they also leave training together, and mostly arrive together aswell. just thought id let you all know, =] i have pics of them together in the car, if you want them =] lol. Madeira Flag

Since Madeira is a Portuguese Autonomous Region , seperate flag is required when birth place is mentioned. —Preceding unsigned comment added by BolinhasFofas (talkcontribs) 17:53, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

I agree with the influence of style for each famous footballer!

Explaining Cristiano's playing style, as well as other famous footballers, will certainly give this whole article meaning. Why have a whole bio of someone with just naming their acheivements and origin?! I concur that having a 'style' section would certainly give newbies a reason to read a bio, this should definitely be an addition to football players, as well as some other sports. It just makes sense. Great job by-the-way. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.91.37.33 (talk) 19:00, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

The van Nistelrooy Fallout

In the section about he and v.Nistelrooy falling out, the link which is supposed to cite this totally disagrees with it saying there was never a falling out. http://sport.independent.co.uk/football/internationals/article1095808.ece —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.101.41.107 (talkcontribs) 23:15, 13 September 2007

Signing for Manchester United

In the autobiography of Phil Thompson, former assistant manager of Liverpool, it states that when Gerard Houllier was the manager, Liverpool were on the verge of signing Cristiano Ronaldo for an fee of around £4m. The fee had been agreed with Sporting Lisbon and then Manchester United made a bid of just over three times that. It was considered to be slightly suspicious. I don't know if this would count as a valid source for the article, but I can certainly provide valid quotes if required. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 135.196.89.118 (talk) 15:13, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

When Manchester United went to Portugal, to play Sporting club de portugal, they had already agreed to Buy Cristiano Ronaldo, as he has revealed in his recent book, 'moments', and im not saying that liverpool werent going to bid on Ronaldo, but im jsut saying that when united played sporting, they had already bought Ronaldo. —Preceding unsigned comment added by KrazyKrusty (talkcontribs) 08:34, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

Here is a quote from Thommo's autobiography related to this section:

"I was sitting in a lounge at Anfield having some lunch and looking at the big TV screen. Up came the news United had signed Ronaldo from Lisbon for £12.2m. Gerard and myself nearly choked on our food.

"Gerard said: 'Contact Tony Henry,' and I went straight out and rang him. I said: 'what happened? More importantly, what happened with the price?' He said: 'After you had been with me, I got a phone call the following week and was told to drop everything on the deal. Hand on heart, I really don't know what happened.'

"I went back and told Gerard the story. What happened, God only knows. For the fee to jump from £4m to £12m, especially as they seemed so desperate, was surprising to say the least." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.34.160.145 (talk) 15:04, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

In Cristiano Ronaldo's Recently released book 'Moments' he mentions the point in which he signs for Manchester United, he States that before the match he knew his destiny was at Manchester United, and that they had bought him, Now where is there a Mention of Liverpool. i mean i have heard that Liverpool were going to sign him, but they thought of him as too young, personally i dont care anymore, he signed for the better club, and he seems as thought he's going to stay. =] lol. thats whats important. and he seems to get on with the lads at united, i mean ive seen them together, and they all get on great. =] so we know he signed for united, and thats whats important, the rest, is history. =] xxxKrazyKrusty 23:35, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

If things that happened in the past weren't important then why would Wikipedia exist? Anyway, the point here is that his transfer was highly dubious in the way that it was conducted between Manchester United and Sporting Lisbon. The player wouldn't have actually been involved in that process at all until the fee had been agreed and United had been given permission to talk to him, otherwise it's what's called "tapping up". If Ronaldo had mentioned the Liverpool involvement in his book, he'd be implicating his club in possible illegal transfer dealings, in much the same way as Jaap Stam did. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.34.160.145 (talk) 17:55, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

he didnt mention liverpool, he just said that when he was in the sporting lisbon Vs Manchester United match in August 2003 he knew that united had signed him, he knew the evening before, but he never thought that he would be going to manchester so soon, he thought he would be at sporting for another year. thats all. =] KrazyKrusty (talk) 08:55, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

KrazyKrusty, that's what the guy above you is trying to say. No, it isn't mentioned in his book, but that's becuase if it was true and in there, he'd be getting united into possible trouble by writing about it. Andy86 (talk) 15:32, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Clean up the Section under Manchester United?

In my opinion, there is too much emphasis on each season at United. I'm looking to clean-up that section, but would like some feedback from everyone on this matter. Do you think we should leave it as it is or should we really clean it up?Eg the paragraph on the diving incidents. Can we just remove that and state that Ronaldo has been involved in diving controversies since his first season in England? And the paragraph on the current season. Do we really need to mention those specific match details? I mean the article will be severely overloaded if we are going to include details of every match he scored in.Lpy4606 12:24, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

you shouldnt clean it up too much. after all his club is united, its who he plays for every week. xx KrazyKrusty 14:25, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Personal life

I haven't got time, but someone please rewrite this section, it's completely ridiculous and looks as if a 10 year old wrote it.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.166.65.126 (talkcontribs)

Cristiano is supposedly dating Carolina Patrocinio, a portuguese presenter on a childrens Disney programme. They met when Cristiano was helping promote a bank in his home land in December 2007. he has since asked her to join her on numerous occasions at his cheshire mansion including new years eve, which caused Cristiano's mother to be mad quoting "He has chosen to be with a girl he doesnt even know over his family and me, his mother who has only just got over cancer". Speculation has been rife that all of the alleged comments above are not true or that CRistiano sincerely does not care about his new realtionship because Cristiano was caught booking hookers at a famous club in rome on the sunday he played Aston Villa in The FA Cup. Cristiano left the club to go back to his hotel. 10 minutes later his cousin, Nuno, turnt up at the same hotel with the hookers. Again nobody knows whether this is true. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.107.160.252 (talk) 18:55, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

Neutrality

It occurred to me that this article is not really 'neutral'. Calling someone gifted is one thing, but to say he's got 'superb technical ability' is a little exaggurated. And openly discussing the correctness of the red card is absolutely useless. The whole style of the article bends in the 'too positive' direction. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.168.107.17 (talk) 12:03, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

Ok, for the record I want to add that because the way the Premiership works Cristiano Ronaldo would have been unable to go back to Maderia because on Boxing Day and New Years Day matches are played. December is a very important month for teams and despite his mother being ill he wouldnt of been able to go home but his family would have been able to come to the UK, like he says they normally do. As for the 'girlfriend', how do we know it wasnt just a fling or even a lie! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.36.188.55 (talk) 18:12, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

I think it would be good if we could re-write that section..it's too..cluttered in a way..one-liners throughout the section, will be great if someone can add a picture for that as well Lpy4606 (talk) 01:24, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
