Submarines edit
Any idea why the paragraph on the proposed "carrier submarine" was deleted? Aerobird 02:18, 29 December 2005 (UTC)
- I'm not sure, even though according to the history, I was the one that deleted it. I didn't think I had.

In the "aircontent" box, the pre-1962 designation sequence entry isn't showing, only the post-1962 one. For this a/c they both should be visible... - Aerobird 15:55, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

...for the pic of the Sea Dart on display on the hardstand at the San Diego Aerospace Museum...I was the youngest of the restoration crew of that particular plane. My father had worked on the Sea Dart program early in his career at Convair, and it was a pleasure to see him work again with those who mentored him when he was a young engineer.
'Of course, I ALSO remember him giving me a bucket and sending me into the engine bay to bail out water that had collected as te plane sat for years out in the open.
Re that specific aircraft...the write up states it's on loan from the Nat Museum of Naval Aviation in Florida. Wonder how that can be true. To my knowledge, the plane has never been out of San Diego, let alone to the other side of the nation....it sat outside on the Convair ramp (where it would enter the water during the testing phase) for over 20 years...the wheels at the back of the skis had sunk into the tarmac. We restored it while I was still in high school, which would make it between 1978 and 1981. It went straight from our restoration work to the SDAM and up on the hardstand.
Pax River edit
In the late 1970s, my father took me to an airshow at Pax River. I saw a Sea Dart on the ramp, neglected. This was when the F-18 was first undergoing acceptance / evaluation testing, all white and it put on a great show. That was during a time I thought Convair designs were sexy.
