Um... Just checking here, isn't EDTA a tetradentate ligand? Each of the carboxyl groups can donate an electron pair... sconzey

Okay, I see now that's mentioned. Whoops. sconzey

It is actually hexadentate Matt —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.227.206.243 (talk) 14:50, 18 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

qustion.. edit

why a little bit of magnesium is needed to be add in the calcium solution before titration with EDTA occurs??? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 210.186.150.121 (talk) 17:00, 17 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

The calcium forms a stronger complex then magnesium, so they displace the Mg ions from the EDTA complex. The Mg ions react with an indicator to change the colour of the solution. When the calcium ions have all be taken into EDTA, any extra EDTA will displace the Mg ions from the indicator, thus removing the colour and completing the titration. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 139.222.127.240 (talk) 04:11, 8 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
