That is incorrect. We don't "know" anything of the sort. Shit happens with these types of deals. The deal has been "killed" by the NBA, who at this moment owns the New Orleans Hornets, and they likely don't want the team to lose it's only star player to the already bloated and overhyped Los Angeles Lakers, or more likely any team, while the team is without an owner that isn't also the league. There are basically three things we KNOW:

• Marc Stein heard from sources he believes to be credible that three teams have agreed to a deal.
• Agreeing to a deal and a deal happening are two different things.
• No deal happens until the lockout is lifted, the league approves the deal, and all players pass physicals AND don't exercise no-trade clauses, if any.

• The League has reportedly killed the deal, according to multiple reports. This is a conflict of interests, because the League currently owns the New Orleans Hornets, but if true, it means the deal is dead.

I am relatively new here, so i a not 100% familiar with wikipedian protocol. Is it really needed to have the non-trade mentioned in the article? he was never actually a Laker; I am proposing a vote on the inclusion or removal of the content. I'll start

• UH, NOT REMOVE? It's pretty unique and (I'm guessing) unprecedented that a trade that was legit under the rules gets yoinked by the commissioner because of complaints from the other owners. It's plenty notable because it is the subject of boatloads of third party commentary, and the Hornets' ownership issues. • Comment I copied this to 2011–12_NBA_season#Notable_occurrences, as in the long term it will have greater impact at a league level of Stern interceding on trades and squabbling owners. • COMMENT: The reason I still believe it is not notable is because it is not unique. In late 2003/early 2004, the Boston Red Sox and the Texas Rangers agreed to a three-team deal that would have landed the Red Sox Alex Rodriguez, sending Nomar and Manny Ramirez to the White Sox and Rangers, respectively, IIRC. The Office of the Commissioner of Major League Baseball vetoed the trade. This kind of thing is RARE, but not unheard of. In the Rodriguez case, it was not due to owners' complaints, but it was still shot down by Bud Selig. If anything it should be put in the article for the current League Season. • Comment: According to multiple sources, including ESPN.com, the deal has been called off by the Los Angeles Lakers. I suggest we come to consensus for a more succinct way of wording the initially agreed trade, the veto, the re-submission, and the back-out by the LA Lakers.
  • For instance: "On December 8th, 2011, the Lakers, Hornets and Rockets reached an agreement on a three-team deal that would have sent Paul to the Lakers. However, that evening, NBA Commissioner David Stern vetoed the trade for what he cited as "basketball reasons," drawing ire from media outlets that saw it as opening a can of worms best left untouched. Photo edit request

I changed it to one of him in street clothes because it works better as an infobox photo. I mean, it would be nice to have a photo of him in Clippers uniform (and in fact, we do: File:LA Clippers players on the floor vs Kings.jpg and File:Chis Paul Kenyon Martin Kings@Clippers.jpg), but there's nothing wrong with using an older photo, because it says right there at the top of the article that he plays for the Clippers. No one's going to be confused. Also, remember that we can't toss in any old photo we find on the Internet - most of the stuff is copyrighted, and we need work that's in the public domain or has a less restrictive Creative Commons license. --Mosmof (talk) 15:43, 4 June 2012 (UTC)

New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets

For the record, I dont have a strong opinion either way if New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets, the temporary relocation due to Katrina, is in the infobox, but the previous version that linked it to New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets, which is a redirect to Effect of Hurricane Katrina on the New Orleans Hornets, was problematic and was fixed. If a pipe is used, it should link to New Orleans Pelicans. The comparison to Kevin Durant is slightly different, as the move from Seattle was permanent. Not sure about other players, but P. J. The thing is that it was, at the time, the official name of the franchise. If you check the article, it is listed as an official name used from 2005-2007 in the infobox. There even is an official logo bearing the name used on and off the court for those two years, so it definetely can't be accounted as a short-term makeshift name. And from all other articles I know, if a team changes names, it has to be accounted in the infobox. Although I have to admit, that a time changes cities and names for two years due to a natural disaster is in fact a unique case...--DasallmächtigeJ (talk) 00:19, 24 January 2014 (UTC)

Another fact to consider is the team eventually moved back to NO, when they were again the New Orleans Hornets. So technically, Paul played on both NO/OKC and then NO again. Would that be reflected as New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets/New Orleans Hornets? Unfortunately, the slashes make it ugly looking, and appear as three different teams and not two. Another option is to just list New Orleans Hornets, with a footnote in the infobox about the temporary relocation. Or New Orleans Hornets with no footnote, and details in the article text only. Yeah, I had the same problem and then opted for NO/OKC Hornets, as I thought it would become evident that includes the normal Hornets as well as rhe OKC team. But actually, a footnote seems like a great idea to me, we made it evident that he played for both teams but avoid confusion.--DasallmächtigeJ (talk) 00:58, 24 January 2014 (UTC)

Regarding the announcer, I was looking at that the other day too. The current text for Flair should be trimmed, as its Paul's bio and not his, but I did find somewhere that Flair and Paul had a friendship and did some promos together, and LAC also contacted Flair about recording sound bites for them after Paul was traded there.—Bagumba (talk) 08:53, 16 February 2014 (UTC)

I'll give this article a pass. The only other thing I noticed is that the ref supporting "His career averages are 18.6 points, 4.4 rebounds, 9.9 assists, and 2.4 steals per game" is already dead and almost a year old. Player Profile section should mention high assist-turnover ratio

This is probably Paul's most unique characteristic compared to other point guards who average a lot of assists. Facts

I'm referring to the text right after the season reference which says, "being the all-time NBA leader in the latter category." The way the sentence is written, "latter" is referring to steals. The Brawl

There will be further reports on the incident as of this submission, but I do wish to leave a reminder that Chris Paul was involved in his first ever brawl with Lakers guard Rajon Rondo, throwing two connected punches after he was presumably spat on, and was promptly ejected, along with Rondo and Brandon Ingram. Chris Paul's Clippers' photo in infobox needs to be replaced

Chris Paul is playing with the Houston Rockets for two years now. So showing him in the infobox wearing LA Clippers jersey may be considered misleading for current readers. Yes, Paul played in the Clippers for 6 years, but a more current Paul with Rockets jersey if available should have preference and Clippers photo demoted to its specific section below. If a valid Rockets photo cannot be found, I suggest using a photo with Paul wearing the USA national jersey as he did play for the American national team. werldwayd (talk) 13:42, 25 October 2018 (UTC)

Right now there are reports and hypothetical articles that CP3 is being traded. Nothing from the individual teams or CP3 himself. Splitting big paragraphs

Bagumba, will you split that huge second paragraph in a way you think is most fitting since Sabbatino will probably revert me again if I give it another try? MOS:LEAD says the lead "should be written in a clear, accessible style" and "As a general rule of thumb, a lead section should contain no more than four well-composed paragraphs and be carefully sourced as appropriate." That footnote in the infobox looks peculiar, but it seems like it was changed without a definitive source from Forsyth County to Winston-Salem. We generally don't rely on primary sources like a birth certificate. ESPN.com listed Paul's birthplace as Winston-Salem back in July 2006. It still does today. ESPN is one of the most authoritative US sports sites out there, so the fact it has consistently listed Winston-Salem should settle this matter, and Wikipedia should reflect such. I think the reason why Lewisville is said in other sources is because it's falsely assumed to be his birth place not just hometown (CP's Wake Forest bio lists Lewisville as his hometown).
