Talk:Caucasus: Nanatsuki no Nie

Latest comment: 6 years ago by InternetArchiveBot in topic External links modified

I'm glad that someone had the initiative to make this webpage with a bit more detail than the previous Innocent Grey games got. Still, I think some more information (such as a character list, along with information as to which VA voices which character) could be added by those who can read Japanese and/or those who are keeping abreast of the game's publicity. Some of the questions I think could be answered are below:

-Did the developer give a reason as why Nanatsuki Shion looks very much like Arcueid Brunestud from Tsukihime? I take it she's the "bride" character mentioned in the plot summary?

-Is the player character actually given a name this time? The official website just lists his name as the "player," but is that because you can change this character's name like you could in Tenshi no inai 12-gatsu (detailed nicely on its own page here)? Does the player character have a default, and thereby canon, name?

-Are there going to be any characters from Innocent Grey's previous games in this one? Kara no Shoujo actually featured 4 characters from its prequel, Cartagra, but the page here makes no note of that fact.

-Who is the scenario writer for Innocent Grey? I bet the same one wrote for Cartagra, Pianissimo, Kara No Shoujo, and now this one, since they often feature bloody murder, incestuous relations, and mystery story plotlines? Has the writer given Agatha Christie as an inspiration? Caucasus' plotline definitely looks like it borrows quite a few elements from her famous story "And then there were None."

-Has it been explained what the title "Caucasus" has to do with the game? From what I can tell it looks like it might have nothing whatsoever to do with the geographical region.

My thanks in advance to whomever fleshes out the article with the answers to these questions.

Wow, didn't imagine there'd be an article for Innocent Grey's game, awesome work guys. Anyway, I can answer a few of the questions asked here. -Depthcharge101 (talk) 00:48, 10 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

The cameos were explicitly mentioned in Kara no Shoujo, and like all their previous games, all characters are listed and there are no secret or surprise characters. Since there aren't any characters from the previous game listed on the official web site, I am guessing there wouldn't be any. Kara no Shoujo could have the two previous characters from Cartagra cuz it's taking place in the same world, but I don't think Caucasus's world is the same.

They are not all written by the same people (I thought it might be obvious, as some of them have significantly better stories than others). Cartagra is written by Iida Kazuhiko (飯田和彦), PP is written by Masuda Yuki (ますだ由希), and the latest 3 - Nagomibako (Cartagra fan disk), Kara no Shoujo and Caucasus is written by Suzuka Miya (鈴鹿美弥).

Thanks for the info you've given so far. Now that the game's released, perhaps some others will come forward with info about it. I can't find it out myself as I don't know a lick of Japanese. I only just found out through a fluke discovery via search engine that one of the premises of the game is that one of the "marriage rituals" for the Nanatsuki family is that the bride-to-be must spend a night alone inside a coffin for the marriage to be approved. And no, one character in Kara No Shoujo appears to have been secret--Yukiko Miyama's picture is blacked out entirely on the official website, though checking the drama CD section for that game on the official website will show any inquisitive visitor her uncensored face.
I haven't played through the previous Innocent Grey games myself (not that I'd understand anything), so I wouldn't be able to tell which of the games you consider to have the best story. I can tell from the CGs, however, that the writers seem to like making it so that heroines the player character can pursue as a lover aren't always ones with happy endings (in fact many of them die bloody deaths). Just as an example, out of the 9 I counted in Kara No Shoujo who can be bedded, only 5 appear to have happy endings. Back in Cartagra's day, there were 7 beddable characters, and only 2 seem to have happy endings from the CG set. That's why I used to think the scenarios were by the same people--now I think it's likely the producers who make it so that these games have the common themes I mentioned.
Again, I'd appreciate the efforts of those who would take the time to flesh out the pages on Innocent Grey's games. There's also the matter of Miki Sugina herself--is she contractually bound to work with Innocent Grey like Hiro Suzuhira was before she quit Navel? I'd think that an artist of her caliber would have her own website, but I've found nothing of the sort. I also think that the sudden and drastic change in her artstyle from Cartagra to Pianissimo might have been triggered by her real-life circumstances, because most artists change their style gradually instead of suddenly. The Kara No Shojo page here seems to imply that she came up with the original premise of the game, since it says "the original concept was by Miki Sugina" (maybe it should have just said "the original concept art and character designs were by Miki Sugina" instead?). Anyone got info on this?

Guess I'll answer some of your questions then. It is generally perceived that Cartagra has the best story so far (not counting Caucasus since it's still too new), and PP has the worst. PP is so bad I would even recommend against playing it - it has a story like your typical eroge, and sex is probably its only selling point. Kara no Shoujo is good, but it has the saddest story of all. Couldn't mention anymore or it would be a massive spoiler.
I have done a fair bit of research on the gender of Sugina Miki, and I am quite sure he is male, I remembered reading somewhere he was asked once why he took such a feminine name in an interview, and many people have mistaken him as a female as a result. Also, Sugina is actually one of the two founders (the other is Anzu-sama) of Innocent Grey, which explains why he rarely do anything outside Innocent Grey. He does occasionally do some illustrations (for example Shimotsuki's album illustration) randomly, but that's about it. Having played all the Innocent Grey games, I personally can't say his artstyle has changed that much. I was charmed by his art when I first saw it in Cartagra, and since then I have only grown to love it ever more. It has improved quite some bit ever since, but I wouldn't say there has been any big changes or jumps.
As for the what he has done in the games, because he is one of the boss of the company, he does a little more than just drawing things. He does a bit of supervision, concept, and managing together with Anzu, which is why you might see him being credited as the original concept creator for Kara no Shoujo.
Also just started playing Caucasus. A big change from their previous game is that it is being changed to a detective style game (the official genre for the game is 'closed-circle adventure game'. It is not just an eroge anymore - there's a time limit and you are free to explore around, examine on things, talk to people and discover things. Kara no Shoujo has element like this but it is not as flexible and the exploration involves only clicking on the correct item. I think the game will be harder now and hopefully... they will give a happy ending for True End this time...

Hmm, the truth about "Miki Sugina" sounds fascinating. If they come up with an "all ages version" for Caucasus (I hear Cartagra got this treatment from KID before that company went out of business) then perhaps it could be marketed as a "mystery adventure game" in North America. There is still a market for that game genre here, despite its general unpopularity.
There's still a lot more I'd like to know about Caucasus and Innocent Grey games in general, but I think I'll refrain from mucking up this page further and stick to questions about this game. I hear, for instance, that Shion Nanatsuki (was her design really inspired by Arcueid Brunestud of Tsukihime?) was voiced by Maaya Sakamoto(!)--is this in fact true? I also remember seeing a promo picture depicting the seiyuus of Shion Nanatsuki, Touko Kuchiki, Touko Mizuhara, and Tsuzuriko Yosomiya being the main event at a promotional concert on this game's release. Does this mean that those seiyuus are actually part-time singers/musicians as well?
I've taken a look at this game's CGs as well, and it seems that the game only spans three days (most plot-centric eroge I've seen span weeks if not months of time from start to finish). While plenty of time to solve a mystery bound to one location (the Nanatsuki mansion), it's definitely not much time for a love story to believably bloom unless the protagonist knew the heroines before the game actually starts (I think only Souko Kirihara is the one the nameless player character is familiar with beforehand, though what she might have been doing walking around snowy mountains in that odd outfit is anyone's guess). Perhaps as you fully explore the game you'll be able to fill out some character descriptions or even route summaries for the various characters. It'll be something I'll look forward to.

Unlikely to happen (being ported to all-age), but it'll be something I'd like to see. Regarding Sakamoto Maaya voicing Shion... I see, I will definitely have a look into this. Although from what I hear in game, it didn't occur to me that Sakamoto was doing it, but we'll see. As for the seiyuu appearing on the promotional concert, as far as I'm aware, Kuchiki Touko's seiyuu (Sanma) does some character songs for Kara no Shoujo, and I think the others might have sung some stuff in the drama CDs, can't remember ><. Also there'll be a Innocent Grey concert at Shibuya on Christmas day (link here) and you can see that those people you mentioned will be appearing. And as a piece of general information, most seiyuu are, in fact working voice acting part time, and have another job in their life. This is mostly because seiyuu work is sort of unstable (you can even think it as casual) and it does not pay well. Although I wouldn't say most of them would be singing or working on music for their other job, only for those who are talented (or lucky enough to be given the opportunity). Sakamoto is an example.
Luckily the game spans only three days, because it is so hard! There are just too many variables and it is not easy to get a specific ending even with the flow chart provided in the game. After getting several bits and pieces and a few endings, I've resorted to using the game wiki... But what you said is correct, it is hard to imagine developing strong feelings on the characters given the short amount time, but maybe Caucasus is designed more to be a mystery/detective story than a romance plot. At least that's what I've experienced so far...
No promises on updating the wiki article ! Simply because it takes quite some bit of time and effort and time is not something I have a lot. And also because these aren't particularly useful information. People who have played the game would already know it, and people who aren't playing it (most at least) wouldn't bother with the article in the first place.

1. Sakamoto Maaya is definitely NOT voicing Shion. Also Shion's just look-alike Arcueid, that's it.
2. Full name of the protagonist is Kobayashi Satoshi, here < from my own shoot of Caucasus Official Artbook page 017
3. I didn't find any clue why its named after Caucasus, seriously. The terrain and climate? maybe.
4. Caucasus has no cameo, unlike the rest other works.
5. Sugina Miki is a man, his real name is Fumio Aoki, also potrayed in Catragra Offical Artbook last page. You can hear his voice : niconico or his picture web radio and web radio . NO, I'm no stalker.
6. I agree with Depthcharge101 about PP is bad. The story is certainly true, not as good as Cartagra (what I mean here is the plot twist) but there's still some "plus" in PP like the BGM (jazz-themed, I loved it so much), some chooseable ending (I freaked out when I know there is no Rin's route in Cartagra) and somewhat heart-warming True Ending with Ayane. And yes, Cartagra has the best story so far.
7. IF there is anyone who want to play Innocent Grey's games, I recommend you to play in order : Cartagra - Sacrament (in Nagomibako) - Kara no Shoujo - 4 Kara no Shoujo's Drama CDs - Kara no Shoujo 2(not released yet) and then PP or Caucasus. The relation between Cartagra and PP is not so important, just a support character appears and sells some takoyaki. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Koji leo (talkcontribs) 06:47, 3 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
