Talk:Carol Davis (American football)

"Carol" vs. "Carole"

edit

I have moved the article back to "Carol" Davis, as this is the name in which hundreds of articles reference her since the death of Al. A newspaper article from 1980 is not as accurate, and all the references in this article list her as "Carol." Eagles 24/7 (C) 02:00, 10 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, WP:COMMONNAME would say "Carol", as "Carole" is only yields a few ghits in articles in the 1970s and 80s. In any event, I'm sure we'll see an official press release from the Raiders soon and see what spelling is used.—Bagumba (talk) 02:06, 10 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
In addition to the article, several Bay Area reporters who know the family (such as Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury-News and Steve Corkran of the Contra Costa Times) also give the spelling as "Carole." However, the latter is an unusual spelling; no sense in an edit war, rather than just waiting a few days for a press release or other official announcement. Notability

edit

There's a source that Raiders will remain the Davis family, but no specifics if that means both Carol and Mark, or only one and which. Looking ahead, if she happens to be only a minority owner and she continued to stay out of the press, would we still assume she is notable? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bagumba (talkcontribs)

Good question, probably re-evaluate when the announcement is made. I'd guess that both Carol and Mark own the same portion of the franchise, in which case Mark could have an article as well. Eagles 24/7 (C) 02:24, 10 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
@Bagumba: I've restored this article and expanded on it. Carol is not the day-to-day owner of the team, but it appears she has enough coverage to pass GNG. Eagles 24/7 (C) 21:33, 7 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
