Fair use rationale for Image:CSU.PNG

Image:CSU.PNG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 03:57, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

Colleges in LA County?

Anybody know why a box containing all the colleges and universities in LA County was placed in this article? Doesn't really seem appropriate - as CSUB is in Kern County. I know the satellite campus is in LA County, but the main campus is not. If anyone has a reason to keep it here, let me know - otherwise I will probably delete it in a couple of days. PhySusie (talk) 22:41, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

I took care of it. Ameriquedialectics 22:47, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

Merger proposal

There is very little content in the athletics section of this article and absolutely no content in CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners, I am proposing that we merge that article back into the main university article. Racepacket (talk) 03:29, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, i guess it should be merged back for right now. I'm too lazy to do some research to build the article up. hbdragon88 (talk) 07:46, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
  • Support: per Racepacket.-- Marco Guzman, Jr  Chat  03:42, 24 November 2010 (UTC)
  • Support, for now it makes sense. --Bobak (talk) 16:47, 24 November 2010 (UTC)
  • Support and ensure the material in the other article's infobox is merged, too. And if someone has the time and energy to add a few sources, that would be great, too! ElKevbo (talk) 17:12, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

I noticed the merge proposal has been inactive for awhile but the article remained the same so I added some content to it and now is a good start with lots more room for expansion. Feel free to continue adding content to Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners. Bhockey10 (talk) 03:10, 5 June 2011 (UTC)

Cal State Bakersfield

Another editor is insisting that we omit the nickname "Cal State Bakersfield" from this article. He or she first removed the nickname and cited the university's style guide and then began an edit war to ensure the name remained omitted with the edit summary "No need to continue calling entities by names they don't prefer."

The university doesn't control this article and we are not required or obliged to abide by its style guide or the desires of its administrators. A quick search shows that the Cal State Bakersfield nickname is still commonly used, especially in the context of athletic teams, so it's entirely appropriate that we mention the nickname in this article so readers are sure to link the nickname to this university regardless of the university's official stance on the issue.

In any case, it's inappropriate to edit war over this material. ElKevbo (talk) 19:09, 8 April 2014 (UTC)

What is the general rule for the nickname in articles? I have seen this issue in both cases, where editors have put in a common name but then it has been deleted because it is not in the "official style guide" - and the exact opposite. A good example is the Sacramento State (another CSU campus). In the past, editors have put in the nickname "Sacramento State University", but since the official university style guide prohibits the use of that name, it was deleted several times.--Uwatch310 (talk) 21:17, 8 April 2014 (UTC)
I believe the general rule is that if it is a significant alternative name, such as the commonly used Cal State Bakersfield, it should be included in the first sentence per Wikipedia:Article titles#Treatment of alternative names. Bahooka (talk) 21:25, 8 April 2014 (UTC)
