Tableland/Region edit

My understanding is that the Barkly Tableland and the Barkly Region are two different entities, the Tableland being the area covered by a geographic feature, and the Region being a local government area defined by the NT Government. Obviously the two are not co-extensive. I think this article needs to be revised in order to make this distinction clear. (For example, it starts off talking about the@3: Tableland, and then has a map of what is fairly clearly the Region. Since the title of the article is "Barkly Tableland", it should be about the geographic feature. There is already an article for the Region. ARBrennan (talk) 05:39, 6 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

I have added hat notes for disambiguation. Kerry (talk) 15:43, 14 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Mitchell Grass Downs edit

Mitchell Grass Downs is an IBRA region of which Barkly Tableland (MGD02) is a subregion, yet Mitchell Grass Downs redirects to Barkly Tableland. I doubt if this is helpful to Wikipedia users, but am unsure of the consequences of annulling the current redirect for Mitchell Grass Downs and doing the more logical thing of creating a new article for the Mitchell Grass Tablelands biogeographic region... Hoping for some helpful advice. Cheers, MargaretRDonald (talk) 03:54, 7 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

@MargaretRDonald: Redirects often get created to “the article that seems closest to the topic that doesn’t have an article”. Sometimes the connection between the topic and the article makes sense to the person who created it but not much sense to other people. I’m not sure what the motivation was in this particular case, but it’s perfectly ok for you to create a new article replacing the redirect. Kerry (talk) 13:43, 18 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, @Kerry Raymond: But how do I get to the redirect to delete it. MargaretRDonald (talk) 20:42, 18 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
@MargaretRDonald: It’s not obvious, is it?! Click on Mitchell Grass Downs and it takes you to Barkly Tableland but when you look carefully at these top of that article, you will see “Redirected from Mitchell Grass Downs”. Click on the Mitchell Grass Downs and you will now be able to edit it to remove the redirect and replace it with an article. If you have a problem, let me know and I will fix it for you. Thanks, @Kerry Raymond: It is now done with a stub article giving the IBRA bare bones in a new article, Mitchell Grass Downs. Hopefully, the change will not affect anything too much. Thanks for the information on how to deal with a somewhat inappropriate redirect. Cheers, MargaretRDonald (talk) 20:36, 19 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Julia Creek dunnart edit

The Julia Creek dunnart does not live anywhere near the Barkly Tabelands. You can confirm that simply by looking at the map attached to the article on that species. Nor are there any reliable sources to suport the contention that it doe slibve on the barkly tablelands 180.150.112.67 (talk) 08:30, 25 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
