CFO Request

Hi! I am an employee at BNY Mellon and wish to update Leadership with the company's current CFO. The live article references a 2008 news article to verify that "Thomas Gibbons has been CFO since 2008 and also serves as vice chairman." Michael P. Santomassimo is now CFO.[1][2] He took the CFO post in 2017. Can editors update this section to reflect the correct CFO?

I disclosed my connection with BNY Mellon on my user page. I am here to assist with updates to BNY Mellon articles in a way that complies with Wikipedia's rules and expectations. I will refrain from directly editing articles about BNY Mellon. I will remain on talk pages where I have a conflict. My goal is to make suggestions that will adhere to the project's content policies.

I chose a user name with which there is no ambiguity that I am indeed here on behalf of my employer, BNY Mellon. No one else at the company has access to this account. Thanks! MM BNY Mellon (talk) 15:22, 6 December 2018 (UTC)

  1. The user has declared a connection in which they state that they are one person using the account. Despite their best intentions, their choice of the letters "MM" has introduced ambiguity to their edits, in that it may confuse other editors with BNY Mellon's Money Market funds division. These types of holding funds are occasionally identified in market listings with the letters "MM" at the end of their names. While the use of stage names and pennames are allowed for use, the penname MM seems too similar to one of the Banks areas of business and would perhaps benefit from a more unambiguous choice (Emp23MM@BNYMellon for example).
  2. Having now reviewed over one year's worth of COI editor's requests, I must say that MM BNY Mellon's proposal is remarkable in its completeness for an account of only 4 edits, which understandably leads one to suspect that the editor involved is experienced in these matters. While I appreciate the completeness and efficiency of their request — and not wanting to look a gift horse in the mouth — I would, nevertheless, still be more comfortable asking the COI editor if they would agree to disclose any other Wikipedia accounts they may be currently using or working with at this time.[a] I thank them in advance for any time spent replying to my concerns.  Spintendo  15:25, 12 December 2018 (UTC)

User:Spintendo Thanks for your message. I can address both points.
  1. After reading your concerns, I can see why my username might cause confusion. To avoid that, I requested a name change to Madelyn BNY Mellon. Hopefully that request can be reviewed quickly.
  2. I do not have any other accounts on Wikipedia, past or present. Rather, The Bank of New York Mellon has a consulting relationship with Beutler Ink. Representatives from Beutler Ink previously conducted work on Wikipedia on behalf of BNY Mellon (you can see their disclosures and previous work on this page). I at BNY Mellon have since taken over that work, yet I still consult with Beutler Ink for help preparing my requests in the correct format. As I disclosed here and on my userpage, I am the only person with access to this account. Are you comfortable making the adjustment with this background?
Please inform me if there is more information needed for this request. Thanks! MM BNY Mellon (talk) 17:05, 12 December 2018 (UTC)
@MM BNY Mellon: I agree it's important that those associations are transparent to everyone involved in the edit request process, so I thank you for your clarifications on both fronts — the association with BI and the name change — it's much appreciated. As far as your request, another editor should be along here shortly to assist you. Regards,  Spintendo  19:34, 16 December 2018 (UTC)
@Madelyn at BNY Mellon: I've made the edit, I see no problem with the content of the edit request, as it's a purely factual change. Bellezzasolo Discuss 18:05, 26 December 2018 (UTC)
User:Bellezzasolo Thanks for making the edit. I will follow up with another factual request. Madelyn at BNY Mellon (talk) 20:13, 2 January 2019 (UTC)

Founding of the bank

The reference in the introduction states that the bank was founded by both Hamilton and Burr. Burr at that time was using the Tammany Society to find a way to create his own bank in competition against the Hamilton bank monopoly in New York. I cannot check the source, but are you sure that it is correct that Burr was a co-founder of the Hamilton bank? See Allen, Oliver E. (1993). The Tiger: The Rise and Fall of Tammany Hall. Operations Requests

Hi! Is it possible for editors to consider changing the first sentence of Leadership? As it reads now, the article says the company announced that former CEO and Chairman Gerald Hassell "would retire at the end of 2017" and that Charles W. Scharf "was set to become Chairman after Hassell retired". This is all more than a year old at this point. I offer this suggested revision:

There is also a bit of outdated information in the beginning of Operations. The article says, "The company employed 52,000 people as of December 2016". There is a 2017 figure in the infobox, so I ask if editors can delete the outdated 2016 number from Operations?

I am an employee at BNY Mellon and I refrain from directly editing articles about the company. Can editors review and update the article if they are comfortable with these changes? Thanks! Madelyn at BNY Mellon (talk) 20:15, 2 January 2019 (UTC)

Madelyn at BNY Mellon and Bellezzasolo - I took care of the change for leadership but left the information about employees. The 2016 number is historical information about the company. --CNMall41 (talk) 04:31, 21 January 2019 (UTC)
User:CNMall41 Thanks for making the edit to Leadership. And I understand about keeping the historical information on the number of employees. However, I noticed that the infobox number is out of date now. As reported in The Bank of New York Mellon Corporation's Financial Supplement from Fourth Quarter 2018, the company had 51,300 employees as of Dec. 31, 2018.[1] Would it benefit the article to refresh the infobox and Operations with the most recent figure, too? Employees Request

Hi! If editors would like to update the number of employees in the infobox and Operations, The Bank of New York Mellon Corporation's Financial Supplement from Fourth Quarter 2018 notes that the company had 51,300 employees as of Dec. 31, 2018.[1]

I am an employee at BNY Mellon and I refrain from directly editing articles about the company. I know that Wikipedia prefers secondary sources, but I am posting this here should editors find it adequately reliable to update the number of employees. Thanks! User:Chetsford Thanks for making the edit to the infobox. Can you also consider adding the 2018 figure to Operations? I understand other editors prefer to keep the historical information on the number of employees from 2016. Would it help readers to include the most recent figure, too? Thanks!
