WBA Title

edit

This article previously stated that Mundine won the WBA super middleweight title twice, which would be totally misleading to many people as this title wasn't considered by anybody who follows boxing to be a legitimate world title, since the WBA made the decision to recognise any WBA unified champion as the 'super' champion and have another lesser WBA champion in the same division. I think this needs to be mentioned as when Mundine won the WBA title the first time, the true WBA titleholder was Sven Ottke and when he won it the second time, the true WBA titleholder was Mikkel Kessler. Holymolytree2 (talk) 17:57, 13 December 2007 (UTC) Also- he lost to both Ottke and Kessler which makes the claim of being a 'champion' rather dubious. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.106.208.158 (talk) 12:46, 26 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

NRL rep footy

edit

Not sure if this is the correct place to put this, but here goes. The part where racism is stated as a reason of Mundine (and Merrit) not playing rep footy has no source and is a fabrication. They didn't get picked becuase they weren't thought as the best. Why should it matter that Merrit was the leading try scorer? A.Winterstein from Broncos is the leader this year. Are you going to pick him just becuase he's leading try scorer? Merrit was one of the better wingers in the comp in 06, but the article suggesting that he wasn't picked becuase of his skin colour is insulting. Again sorry if this is the wrong place. References to Scott Prince, Jonathon Thurston et al as contridictions to racism claims is irrelevant as they all played years after Mundine retired. The exception is only Wendell Sailor. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.106.208.158 (talk) 12:43, 26 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

"The Contender", Australia

edit

The winner of "The Contender", Australia, will face Anthony Mundine in a fight at the end after beating all of the other Contenders. Should this be mentioned in the article? Adamdaley (talk) 01:30, 13 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Green vs Mundine

edit

Removed following: "Green had to drop to a very unhealthy weight to fight as mundine refused to step up weight classes.[citation needed]" Reason: Very subjective opinion on weight loss; boxers often go up and down weight classes in accordance with their goals. Green wouldn't have fought, nor claimed to have had ideal training had he been 'unhealthy'.

Mundine controversy

edit

Mundine said this of 9/11- "It's not about terrorism, it's about fighting for God's laws and America's brought it upon themselves for what they've done," This was in the papers, and he made a televised apology for his words later, why isn't this on his page? 137.111.47.29 (talk) 06:28, 4 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Below is a C&P of something I found that may partially go along to put things in a better perspective.

Join Date: Aug 2000 ----- I think Mundine's comments have beend eliberately misinterpreted by the media and that he was led into a trap up by tabloid journalists keen to discredit him as a symbol of Aboriginal pride. His statement can be interpreted in two main ways: That American foreign policy has marginalised and oppressed islamic minorities and put them in a desparate position that led them to seek militant revenge, and that those events could therefore have been predicted. That the victims of the attacks somehow deserved what happened. I believe Mundine was attempting to explain the first viewpoint: he just isn't sufficiently articulate to express that unambigously. The idea that the victims deserved their fate was the media's knee-jerk reaction to the original comments. His choice of phrase "they got what was coming to them" is certainly unhelpful... but remember, this is a boxer, not an essayist for the London Review of Books. There are any number of well respected left wing intellectuals who share the later view: Susan Sontag, Noam Chomsky and Edward Said amongst others. Mundine's views may have been inexpertly articulated, but those views cannot be dismissed out of hand. (These writers share 2 qualities: they have been widely regarded as pillars of liberal thought... and they have all recently been condemed as traitors) Secondly I feel the journalists led Mundine into a trap and knowingly solicited these comments from him to generate headlines and to discredit him -- perhaps as punishment for his aboriginal pride. Mundine is nearing his goal of challenging for a world boxing title, and is keen to promote himself. He is well known for talking first then thinking later. A member of a marginalised sector of society... and a recent convert to Islam. There are complex personal and historical reasons for Mundine to identify with muslims and oppression. There are plenty of reasons why he would say what he did. And the journalists who asked him knew full well what to expect. I think that Mundine is disliked by a sector of Australian society... there are those who do not like his self-assured style, his determination to succeed and his pride in his ancestry. I think there are some who would rejoice in his failure. I believe he walked right into a trap set by channel 9 journalists. It is a standard approach by the tabloid media to exploit known "hot-heads" for their extreme views... and they took the opportunity to discredit Mundine and damage his reputation by shamelessly leading him into a trap. It is disingenuous and should be beneath the dignity of the "journalists" who organised it. I feel it is an example of journalistic manipulation simillar to the images of Palestinians "celebrating" the WTC attacks repeated ad-nausiam in the days afterwards. Clever use of a camera can cause ordinary people to make statements they don't really mean. I think Mundine was a victim of hatred and racism backed up by journalistic manipulation. BILL

Your web site is so protected I want to put three questions to you and three questions only. You are an elete athlete given, and

you look an OK boxer and you have conquired the formular to make money. No1. The second, in reality and in accord to public perseption, your opponents on your conquest to world tile supremacy, have been mostly past glory opponents, thats sad. My final question I put to you is get serious and put your hands up to box the best of the best. Cubans, mexicans, and the American champions, you know , in the World boxing arena, They are the best of the the best. Knock one of those guys over and you will gain credibility as the best of the best. Forget about the money, be a world Champ. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.185.131.73 (talk) 12:52, 6 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Ethnicity

edit

I would question that statement that "Both his parents are indigenous Australians". He is far to light skinned, and must be at least 50 if not 75% white.203.184.41.226 (talk) 05:27, 13 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Mayweather

edit

Is Floyd even worth mentioning on Mundine's page? Isn't that like saying a Home and Away star would love to act alongside George Clooney some day? Seems irrelevant on the world stage. Mundine will never be anything compared to Mayweather. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 110.174.96.50 (talk) 10:44, 4 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

No this article is a mess and needs someone that is willing to clean it up, remove all the emotive language, particularly in the lead and make it encyclopaedic. At the moment it looks like the Mundine R Us fan club has been over it --124.187.26.24 (talk) 01:18, 23 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Brisbane Broncos games played

edit

In the article is says that Mundine played 18 games for Brisbane Broncos in 1997 but in the table it has him as only playing 11 games? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 1.178.122.35 (talk) 01:03, 24 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
