Date of Birth edit

On todays "Today" show Alicia Gorey told everyone she was "40" today and no one disagreed with her. She dosen't look 40 but I don't know why she would make herself 10 years older. Mirrabooka (talk) 06:59, 19 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

"Journalist & News Presenter" vs "Journalist & news presenter" edit

Robbo128 has twice [1][2] changed the occupation in the info box to "Journalist & News Presenter" and I have twice reverted [3][4] to "Journalist & news presenter". MOS:CAPS is - to me - quite clear on this: "Wikipedia avoids unnecessary capitalization." Neither "news" nor "presenter" is a proper noun in this context, so should not be capitalised. Robbo128, could you please refrain from capitalising them, or explain here why you think they should be capitalised - citing the relevant part of MOS:CAPS. Mitch Ames (talk) 11:54, 14 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

And again... [5][6]. Mitch Ames (talk) 11:50, 23 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

And yet again! [7]. Robbo128, could you please explain why you think MOS:CAPS does not apply here. And/or could other editors comment on this. Mitch Ames (talk) 02:27, 27 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

"She" vs "Gorey" starting 2nd sentence edit

Robbo128, could you please explain why you think we need to start the 2nd sentence with "Gorey" (your edits: [8][9])? Yes, it's a new paragraph, but given that the first para is only one short sentence, I don't think the reader is going to have any trouble remembering who we are talking about. (Hence my reverts: [10][11].) Mitch Ames (talk) 12:01, 14 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

And again. [12][13]. Robbo128, could you comment here please. Do other editors have an opinion on the matter? Mitch Ames (talk) 03:01, 27 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
And again. [14][15]. I'm still happy to discuss this, if someone wants to venture an opinion. Mitch Ames (talk) 09:09, 19 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Overlinking of Nine News edit

I removed quite few repeated links to Nine News, but Robbo128 has restored them all. I think this is wp:overlinking; can I have some other editors' opinions on this please. Mitch Ames (talk) 02:49, 27 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

In the absence of any feedback, I have again removed the overlinking and repeat linking, per WP:REPEATLINK. Mitch Ames (talk)
And again. Robbo128, please discuss the matter rather than WP:EDITWARRING. I'd appreciate the opinion of some other editors as well. Mitch Ames (talk) 08:34, 23 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Name change: Gorey --> Loxley edit

Should the Alicia Gorey article be renamed to Alicia Loxley to reflect her recent marriage. All "official" references still list her as Gorey, but her (unverified, but not disputed) Twitter feed says Loxley. We have one tweet from a second person that says she is going by her new name. Mitch Ames (talk) 10:58, 18 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

The article was recently renamed from Alicia Gory to Alicia Loxley, and edited accordingly, because she married. However all of the references - including:

still list her as Gorey. The reference for her marrying does not state that she changed her name. I suggest that in the absence of a specific reference that says she is going by the name "Loxley" we should keep her as Gorey - in accordance with WP:Naming conventions (people)#Multiple and changed surnames. Thus I have reverted the changes. Mitch Ames (talk) 05:44, 11 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Alicia is presenting the news tonight as 'Alicia Loxley' there is currently no written references that state this and all of her previous profiles that are listed are not updated as of yet as she only married a few weeks ago. Robbo128 06:08, 11 February 2012 (UTC)

R> "there is currently written references that state this"
Did you mean "there is currently no written references ..."?
If there are references, please cite them. Is there a video that we can link to where she announces herself as Loxley? I did a very quick search on the NineMSN web site, but couldn't see anything obvious. If we have no references, I suggest that we wait until there are some before renaming the article. As always, I invite other editors' opinions on this. Mitch Ames (talk) 07:47, 11 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
On a related matter: she was married in January 2012, so references to her roles in the past on other articles should not be changed, even if we rename this article. For example this reference to her role in 2010–2011 should not change, because she was Gorey at the time. (Any links will be OK, because the redirect would take care of it.) In some cases - where her role started before and continues after her name change - it may be appropriate to mention both names, eg "Gorey (now Loxley)" or similar. Mitch Ames (talk) 08:00, 11 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Here is her Twitter account with her changed name: http://www.twitter.com/alicialoxley Robbo128 08:04, 11 February 2012 (UTC)

Does MOS:IDENTITY ("... the term ... that person uses for himself or herself") override WP:Twitter and WP:PRIMARY here? (I note that Loxley's twitter account is not verified, although there's no reason to doubt it's veracity.) I am inclined to accept the Twitter account as a reliable source - and cite it in the article until something better comes along - and rename the account. But I'd still like other editors' opinions on the matter. Does anybody else care to comment? Mitch Ames (talk) 08:29, 11 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

No one else has commented. Robbo128 07:38, 15 February 2012 (UTC)

Here is tweet from someone else that says "I've noticed while watching a Nine News update ... Alicia Gorey is now known as Alicia Loxley". I'm not sure this counts an RS though. Mitch Ames (talk) 12:12, 15 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Are you going to keep it as Gorey or change it to Loxley? Robbo128 01:00, 16 February 2012 (UTC)

No one else seems to have a problem with it. Robbo128 10:26, 18 February 2012 (UTC)

  • Too soon to change. If most of the reliable sources change, then Wikipedia should follow. But right now, it's still too early. FurrySings (talk) 15:01, 18 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
  • keep old name and just make a redirect. whats the big deal? Bouket (talk) 08:51, 21 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
  • A very simple solution. Watch the news and add the following citation when you see the super with her new name (change the date if you have previously seen it). <ref>{{Cite episode |title=Nine News |credits= Reporter: Alicia Loxley|network=Nine Network |station=GTV |city=Melbourne |airdate=22 February 2012 |time= }}</ref>}}

Hack (talk) 00:39, 22 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Her agent DSEG is now showing her as Loxley, and here's another source saying Loxley. So I propose renaming the article and updating references to her name where applicable. (As I mentioned before, some references should not change because they were before her marriage.) It's probably worth citing specific references about the name change at least in the short term, until her Nine MSN profile is updated. I've got other plans for the next day or so, but I'll start on it after that - unless someone else does it in the mean time. Mitch Ames (talk) 09:39, 23 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

She's definitely referred to as Loxley on the weekend Nine News bulletins, and on news promos on Channel Nine and on LightFM. LightFM also now refer to her by her new name at http://lightfm.com.au/nine-news-simulcast, although the NineMSN bio it links to hasn't updated yet. Tim (talk) 23:57, 13 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Do we change all instances of her name to Loxley? edit

I've asked for help at WT:Manual of Style/Biographies#How to handle name changes? about whether we should change all instances of the name. Mitch Ames (talk) 11:47, 25 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

I've commented on MoS/Bio saying I agree with the current proposal - 1. Change article title to Loxley, 2. First sentence is "Alicia Loxley (nee Gorey, born 19 September 1981) ", 3. Use Gorey until wedding and Loxley thereafter, 4. Let other media and/or articles use what ever they like. It make take a while for others to be as current as Wiki. Capitalisation edit

Robbo128, please read MOS:CAPS, in particular WP:JOBTITLES. We do not capitalise common nouns. I concede that the first word of the job title can be capitalised because it is explicitly on a new line (ie it is preceded by <br>) so starts a new "sentence", but the second and subsequent words should not be capitalised. We seem to be WP:EDITWARing over this on multiple pages, and this is not the way things should be done. I have repeatedly cited - in the edit summaries and/or the article talk pages and/or your talk page - the MOS guidelines as justification for my edits, but you seem to be ignoring them, and giving no justification for your capitalisation. If you disagree with me, please discuss the matter on the talk page rather than simply reverting. Thank-you. Mitch Ames (talk) 11:55, 18 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Pregnant edit

  Resolved

This edit says she is pregnant, citing the Herald Sun and "subscription required". (See also previous unreferenced edit and my previous reversion). However I can't find any mention of the announcement (other then Wikipedia itself) on any of:

  • Google search for "Alicia Loxley pregnant"
  • Google search for "Alicia delivers baby news"
  • Searching the Herald Sun for "Alicia Loxley"
  • Loxley's twitter page

I find it very difficult to believe that there is no visible mention of it on the internet (even if the announcement is recent). Consequently I have removed the paragraph again, on WP:BLP grounds. I suggest that some verifiable (without subscription) reference ought to be provided for this, to satisfy BLP requirements. Mitch Ames (talk) 14:42, 9 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

It appeared with a direct quote from Loxley on page 17 of the Herald Sun. Not sure how much information you want - references don't have to be freely available online, just verifiable. Here's an expanded citation.

"Alicia delivers baby news". Herald Sun. 9 July 2013. Retrieved 9 July 2013. CHANNEL 9 newsreader Alicia Loxley has delivered her own news -- she is pregnant. Loxley and husband Kane will become parents in December and are thrilled. ``We're really excited about becoming parents and are storing up on sleep in anticipation, she said. ``Our French bulldog, Roy, is not so excited about being relegated. ``It should make for a fantastic albeit busy Christmas! {{cite news}}: line feed character in |quote= at position 83 (help)Hack (talk) 14:50, 9 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

OK I'm convinced :-) and I've restored the paragraph, adding the URL. I know that refs don't have to be freely available - perhaps I was being overly cautious. It would probably be good to add a freely available source, if one should turn up (which I'm sure it will eventually). Mitch Ames (talk) 11:55, 10 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
