Controversies

edit

Move controversies section to career we should avoid creating section for controversies as per WP:CSECTION. Travis Headache (talk) 08:45, 5 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

The section is no longer titled "Controversies". ~Anachronist (talk) 12:14, 5 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
no need to create additional section move it to career section. Travis Headache (talk) 12:40, 5 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
The current heading complies with WP:CSECTION (which is just an essay, neither a policy nor a guideline) by giving the section a more precise name. ~Anachronist (talk) 13:22, 5 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Got a bit crazy and BOLDly made this a subsection of career as this feels more appropriate given it's what they do. No qualms with this being reverted. Ravensfire (talk) 15:19, 5 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Looks good to me. ~Anachronist (talk) 23:28, 5 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Add allegations of misgendering Amir Siddiqui

edit

In the now deleted video by Carryminati "The End" aimed at "roasting" Amir Siddiqui Carryminati was observed to misgender Amir as a part of his "roasting" which is beyond unacceptable as he aims to make sure the people(mostly 12-13 yr old kids) would be inclined to make the harmful conclusion of girl or in a broader sense, the female gender as a whole as part of something derogatory.

Let's make sure that the article mentions this part under the section critisism. Caesarian Cobol (talk) 15:45, 27 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Not done. Please suggest a specific change and cite a source, like the other edit requests above. ~Anachronist (talk) 04:11, 28 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
My critisism refers to a part of a now deleted video. There seems to be a re-upload on Dailymotion, provided in the second link. One can verify it using the links provided down below.

The wikipedia entry here does include allegations of homophobia, all the sources there mostly corroborate to him being sexist too, which is not mentioned here. I'm requesting to include that too. Caesarian Cobol (talk) 07:04, 28 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
This is too vague to be actionable. Make a specific proposal, in the form "change X to Y". Basically write it the way you would write it if you were actually editing the article. ~Anachronist (talk) 21:06, 28 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
This is the section in question CarryMinati#Homophobic video incident.
The section makes no mention of the sexism perpetrated by the individual in question ie. Carryminati.
Other smaller YouTube creators have called out his action like Saiman Says on his video "How to roast like Carryminati"(I would hyperlink it but yt seems to be blocked).
I'm calling for the article to make mention of the sexism and it would make a lot of difference in changing the mindset of his young audience who often uses "girl" synonymously as a slur. Caesarian Cobol (talk) 04:06, 29 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
See my previous comment. You have not proposed anything specific. ~Anachronist (talk) 13:44, 29 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Anachronist
  • The article at its current state makes no mentions of sexism perpetrated by the individual (sources are linked in my earlier comments)
  • Change it along the lines of: His "roasting" video has him calling Amir Siddiqui a "beti" meaning little girl thus misgendering him as a way to insult him. This has seen a negative impact on his mostly pre-teen audience all of whom now use beti as a slur. Both Cyberbullying and old fashioned bullying were on the rise following the release of the video. A larger societal impact is also seen in a country riddled with homophobia and violence against women.
Caesarian Cobol (talk) 14:30, 29 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Of your two sources, I cannot access the first one (thequint) so I cannot verify that it says what you suggest. All it verifies at the top of the page is that "YouTube took it down for homophobic slurs". The second source you linked provides no coverage at all, just the video, so it is not useful for drawing any conclusions; doing so would violate WP:SYNTH. ~Anachronist (talk) 18:31, 29 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
The links to a re-upload of the video have been posted by me. Multiple re-uploads exist on YouTube documenting him saying the sexist remarks.
As for the second source, it can be accessed by paying for the article( some other unsavory methods could be adopted which I won't risk writing down here). Caesarian Cobol (talk) 19:17, 29 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

The video cannot be cited. It's a primary source. User-generated content, like wikis and forum discussions, also cannot be used as sources. We also shouldn't use editorials or opinion pieces, such as the womensweb article. We can report only what news sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy report.
The problem in general with Indian news sources, especially Times of India, is that they often contain paid content masquerading as journalism, as well as AI-generated articles. Looking them over, the jagramtv, indiatimes, and feminismindia sources are probably OK, unless India Times is related to Times of India. ~Anachronist (talk) 23:42, 29 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Anachronist In this context it's unlikely for Carryminati to pay TOI or any news article to have negative news coverage of himself. However if you don't want to include a specific source, it's fine. I'll appreciate if you include the critisism. Caesarian Cobol (talk) 02:50, 30 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Please consider making the edits, or any follow up as to why my proposal was rejected. Caesarian Cobol (talk) 19:04, 1 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
I am still waiting for you to propose a change, as if you were making the edit yourself. ~Anachronist (talk) 22:17, 1 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
In a "roast" video Carryminati notably makes objectionable remarks towards women fraternity attracting criticism from the women community and a subsequent lawsuit.[1] [2]Such sexist and homophobic remarks have drawn condemnation from the YouTube and YouTube community, resulting in a takedown of the video. Caesarian Cobol (talk) 05:14, 2 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Anachronist I've proposed the change in my above reply. Let me know if any changes are necessary. Caesarian Cobol (talk) 19:37, 2 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
I can't parse the first sentence. What is a "women fraternity"? In the sources you cited, I don't see where they say the video was taken down, maybe I missed this? ~Anachronist (talk) 23:41, 2 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
the video was taken down from YouTube. This is stated in the wikipedia entry itself. "It was taken down by YouTube citing violations of its terms of service, based on multiple complaints of harassment and cyberbullying."
Stated in source "Vulgar and outrageous language is used about the women fraternity on his YouTube Channel" Caesarian Cobol (talk) 04:17, 3 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Anachronist Any updates? Caesarian Cobol (talk) 03:26, 9 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Not done. @Caesarian Cobol: Sorry, I haven't been on in a few days.

The suggested change doesn't seem to have anything at all to do with the section you want to put it in (Homophobic video incident). In fact, both sources you cite imply that it's a different video. Also, just because a source uses poor English doesn't mean we have to.

Please try again with a new request in a new section; this has gone long enough without sufficient specificity from you, so it's best we don't continue this discussion. Start a new one. ~Anachronist (talk) 21:11, 12 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
