You are correct. According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Video_games/Article_guidelines, if it's something that non-gamers will not be concerned about, it shouldn't be here. It might be worth discussion, but at the least the section marked strategies is irrelevant. I also want to say that the unique units and technology descriptions are too technical. "Unique to the Franks, and gives throwing axemen +1 range" could easily be replaced with "unique to the Franks, and improves the range of throwing axemen." Honestly even that might be too much information. Unofficial patches

Militia units with ranged attack?

I recall in the sandbox mode, there is a militia unit that acts like a ranged horse archer. The avatar is of a horse archer and when the unit swings it's club to attack, a spear flys out. The unit is also very fast. It's in the sandbox/scenario editor but is not mentioned in any article or online guide so far.

Whats is this unit really?

Jinete may (or may not) clear something up - the article is right, but a bit of a stub. As it says - in early stages of development it was planned as the Spanish UU; it got replaced by the Conquistador at a later stage so it now stands as a unit only available in custom scenarios. I added info about Genitour appearance in TC to Jinete article (from what i know that Genitour is other spelling of Jinete), and someone (thanks for him!) added this info to this article. About verifiable of this information... First i find this info in the Genie Wiki (http://www.digitization.org/wiki/index.php, they have some information about Pre releases), after this i find information about Genitour=Jinete and see Jinetes from other games (Total War, etc), finally i added this info to the Jinete article. Genitour/Elite Genitour in final game is Militia unit with Cavarly Icon icon and Skirmisher (or Elite Skirmisher) missile. Normally unhidden only in patched version of The Conquerors (1.0c), in unpatched don't available via editor (must be unlocked by Genie, or something)... Called Genitour/Elite Genitour in The Conquerors, in official Polish version (by Cenega) it's Jeździec/Elitarny Jeździec (ugly translation).

Please stop removing the link to Gamespy, Gamepark and IGZ. If you have additional communities to add, please feel free to do so. But please do NOT remove all other links but one, because you are member of this community. This is wikipedia, not a place for advertisements and pointless flamewars. I have corrected this, because it was changed my times in the past.

Yes I agree, that is why I just fixed the article, to include the latest patch 1.0e, I put IGZones back in, removed the extinct zones like EL and vetev, and removed the false history that someone had wrote about them, obviously someone who wasn't involved in the project. I also put external link to Gamepark and IGZ. However, it should be noted that the Largest Age of Conquerors server is indeed IGZones.com and therefore it should be promoted better for players to find more players. Voobly has people spamming it time and again. Normally done in the same manner, by IP addresses and new user accounts that have few if any edits besides working on articles they want to put it in. Gamespy was mentioned by Microsoft as a place to play the game, so it can be mentioned. All other sites should not be. Dream Focus 02:01, 12 February 2011 (UTC)

Wonders

There's a section of wonders for with links to the actual buildings they're based on for the Age of Kings page, but there is none for the expansion pack.

If somebody wants to help compile a list of links to the structures the Wonders in the game are based on, we can put it all up on the page.

So far, all I know is:

Spain - Torre del Oro
Huns - Some old ruin from the Roman Empire
Koreans - The Tower of Heaven or something
and for the Mayans and Aztecs, I have no idea what specific pyramids their wonders are based on.

The Hunnic wonder listed here cannot be the Siegestor, since it was built in 1852, long after the Huns had vanished and outside Age2's time period. I would argue it has to be either a generic ruined triumphal arch or the large Arch of Augustus, at Rome, which was destroyed sometime after the city was ransacked and had the general layout of the arch seen here.FareedMcLure (talk) 20:12, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Aztecs - Templo Mayor (the Great Temple) in Tenochtitlan

Spain - Torre del Oro, as stated.

Koreans - unknown; I can't find any reference to a "tower of heaven."

Coanda-You might try looking at the actual article before posting. The Mayan wonder is very obviously not the La Danta temple at El Mirador (I am assuming your vague reference here was to La Danta), but one from the Tikal site. Which one at Tikal is up for dispute, but I would argue it resembles much more closely the Temple of the Great Jaguar than the Temple of Masks. FareedMcLure (talk) 20:12, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

I most certainly am not referring to La Danta, as that is nothing like the wonder pictured in Conquerors. However, if you look at 1, you will clearly see exactly the wonder pictured in Conquerors, in a picture of El Mirador. The asymmetric slope is the distinguishing feature by which we can tell that El Mirador, rather than say the Temple of the Great Jaguar, is the temple modeled on - it rises more gradually on the staircase side and more steeply on the opposite side, something not seen in the Temple of the Great Jaguar. Soundtrack

This page states that track 7 is called "Mountain Lie On", wheras the "More Music From The Ages" CD I own calls the same track "Seamus And Chamois". Also, track 9 is listed here as "Roi-r!" wheras the "More Music From The Ages" CD calls the track "Basura, Basura". I don't have the collector's edition, so is there any way to sort out which one is correct?

Track Two Is, I Have Worked Out, 3:22, 11 Seconds Longer Than Stated. I Used Itunes And Simple Maths For This.

Track Eight Is 3:04, 2 Seconds longer. once again, simple maths.

Montezuma

This article lists Montezuma as a hero unit in the game, however he is not in the scenario editor nor have I ever encountered him in the campagnes, even with cheats! If no one can bring proof that he exists in the game I will remove that clause. - Comrade Graham

Historical accuracy of campaigns?

Specifically, El Cid mission two places El Cid seizing Toledo for Alfonso. However, El Cid was exiled in 1081, and Alfonso took control of Toledo in 1085. It's possible that mission 2 is creative license, or it's possible that El Cid never actually attacked Toledo - does someone with a little more time or knowledge of the history there want to clarify? Not all the campaigns are completely accurate like when the Huns are at the Catalonian feilds they actually lost but you can't lose and win at the same time. Not only that but you have to keep in mind that it's not accurate to the dot in any place because it's a RTS game. The player does so many things that are different than history says. So I'm not sure about Toledo but the folks who made it still managed to make it loads of fun even if its wrong in places. Oh, i just thought of this, it's hard to have 10,000 men on one screen and still have your computer run normal... oh well. Display game cheats?

Is it allowed/legal/okay to publish official cheats in Wikipedia relating to AoeII? Some cheats I am currently aware of are (you have to press Enter during gameplay, enter the words into the box and press enter again): blackdeath - kills all opponent units, irwinner - lets you win the game, cheese steak jimmy's - gives you 1000 food, robinhood - gives you 1000 gold, rock on - gives you 1000 stone, lumberjack - gives you 1000 wood.

Yes, this information would be very helpful to the reader. If a reader wanted to find this information, perhaps they could try an internet search, but they are more likely to call up an expensive premium-rate cheatline. They would be far better off getting this information from a reliable encyclopedia, and the chances are they would find out about these cheats even before they buy the game (though I'm not sure if AoEII is still being retailed).

The "Gold Edition"

I can see how well updated your article is. My biggest gripe and curiousity is what features and additions have been added to the "Gold Edition". I already noted that in this game, you get the demonstration from 3 experts in those saved games that has been recorded. If you can do it three ways: Make a new article or add what I had or do both. Reverted same spam that keeps appearing over the months

I just reverted some spam yet again. [3] It'll be back again, and again, and again. Always from a new user, usually with no other edits whatsoever, and sometimes an IP address. Same guy obviously. Combining AoK and The Conquerors

These two articles should be combined into one, or the Conquerors article should be the main article, because today only the Conquerors is played. That's not what I meant. There is tone of information of The Conquerors (you could write a book), I was more talking about overview. Why can't I mention Voobly? I even want to use it as a resource, but is blocked :P. So I really want to cite some sections to Voobly, because it is THE only international gaming site for AoC that has ratings.

There is no such thing as an international gaming site. Everyone from around the world can play on any gaming site. Past editors have mentioned something about it, then come back later on and added in more details which sound like a commercial. No reason to mention it at all. Also Wikipedia is for a general audience, no need to mention all the various player made maps and whatnot in detail. See WP:NOTGAMEGUIDE. Try a wikia that allows all information imaginable on it such as the Age of Empires Wiki Dream Focus 11:31, 12 February 2011 (UTC)

But about Voobly, you are wrong. It is international, because you can play on Voobly with any language and in any location. Other plattforms allows often only ip's within the country (Chinese gaming Zone), ping under 100 which is almost only possible in the country (Japanese Zone) or you have to speak the native language (German Zone). As you can see these zones are not international, because is not open for everyone. So not everyone can play on any gaming site and that means the opposite of such plattforms is the international plattform. There are certainly some other international plattforms, but Voobly is the only one that adopted ratings system and also it is the main site where tournament games are played.

I think Voobly should have it's own article, because the reason I said above and the community is still big if you considere the game is 10 years old (2000 online players on average). About the comercial thing I can't really tell, because I never read the Voobly article. If it wasn't part of the official release, then no reason for it to be here, unless it was notable enough to get reviewed on a site that reviews games. Strategies and details about player made gameplay should go on a separate wiki, not Wikipedia. toxic grass bug removal once more

Multiple IP addresses have been blocked in the past for edit warring this same information into the article for the main game in the past. See one of the discussions at Talk:Age_of_Empires_II:_The_Age_of_Kings#Compatibility_Problems_section.2C_keep_or_not.3F_Give_opinions_please.. Consensus on the talk page and in the edit summaries for all the reverts done by different people, has always been against having it. Now a new IP address, with no previous edits on Wikipedia, keeps trying to put it back in. Please whoever you are, talk it out, and don't keep trying to do this. Incorrect statement: Bombard towers are no longer effective against battering rams.

In the section Miscellaneous Changes, it is written incorrectly that bombard towers are no longer effective against battering rams. And also, it is given that it causes only 1 hp damage. This is not true. A bombard tower is very effective and can destroy it in 3 bombs. Also damage caused is greater than 120hp (123 hp). It is watchtowers, towncenters and castles which are not effective —as for any unit with a piercing attack. (Ram has got 180 piercing armor, but 0 normal armor).
