Is this page valid?

I'm not sure why this page exists (already). While the situation obviously may worsen, the current decline has not lasted long enough to indicate it is a significant event. Jsknoll (talk) 21:08, 5 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

I agree. This page might be needed later, but it's too early to say. For all we know the market could spike tomorrow and all the losses recovered. Jamisonsupame (talk) 22:43, 5 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
I'm not sure about how these things are handled on Wikipedia. Does it get left up and we wait and see, or do we err on the side of keeping it live? Jsknoll (talk) 23:14, 5 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Please see WP:AFD on how to initiate a more official deletion proposal. You may get more input there. Tule-hog (talk) 23:50, 5 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

It is a significant event, but unfortunately the title '2024 stock market decline' is probably jumping the gun. Tule-hog (talk) 23:07, 5 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
So, I actually found the page from this one: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_largest_daily_changes_in_the_Dow_Jones_Industrial_Average
It's notable that the majority of those in the list do *not* have pages associated with them unless they are already associated with a long-term event. Jsknoll (talk) 23:13, 5 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
I agree there is absolutely no reason for this page at the moment it should be put into drafts John Bois (talk) 00:34, 6 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
How do we do that? Jsknoll (talk) 00:48, 6 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
The best way forward is to nominate this for deletion (WP:AFD). Articles may be moved to become a draft as a result of a deletion discussion, but given the recent activity on the page, I don't know if it's a good idea to unilaterally draftify the page, per the fifth point of WP:DRAFTNO. – Epicgenius (talk) 01:53, 6 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Can someone help with that? Based on the latest news, this page seems like a politically-motivated premature article. Jsknoll (talk) 02:48, 6 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
WP:AFDHOWTO for exact instructions. Tule-hog (talk) 03:07, 6 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
I've started Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/2024 stock market decline. -- zzuuzz (talk) 06:43, 6 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Assumptions

edit

After reading this article, I have noticed that it makes key assumptions such as claiming that the global stock decline was only due to US department of Labor. This is unjustified as many other sources claim a plethora reasons from AI to conflict in the Middle East. If this article is kept I believe that we need to wait for more perspectives in order to prevent over simplification in the article. Or possible giving a section dedicated to the background. It should simply be deleted there is no point in having a article for a minor correction John Bois (talk) 14:24, 6 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
