First Team squad format

The current format of the squad table has been in use for several seasons on the Manchester City season pages. It is different to the other formats used on other Premier League club pages (e.g. 2022–23 Liverpool F.C. season), however I believe it offers a few advantages, namely:

• Includes data for total player appearances, goals, assists and clean sheets (for GK only)
• Includes transfer fee info
• Sortable columns for ages, contract start/end, and statistics for appearances, goals etc.
• Uses a bespoke Wiki template instead of a standard table format

There are only two differences to the other templates:

• Currently no column presently for previous clubs
• Currently not easily sortable in groupings for GK, DF, MF, FW in that order

However, both features could be added to the current template if thought important.

For now I have reverted back to the previous template, but I would be interested to hear thoughts from other regular contributors and users of this page if they have strong preferences. Thanks Ratchet8865 (talk) 18:05, 5 June 2022 (UTC)

I see user Moleoz has repeated their changes again without further engagement on this talk section. I have again reverted these back to my previous version and commented on their user talk page to explain why. Since yesterday I have tried to address the two features above that could have been said to be a disadvantage of continuing to use the current format / template, namely:

• • The Pos column is now sortable to order the players by position back to front (ie GK, DF, MF, FW)
  • I have added information about previous clubs. NB: this content was always possible with the existing template, but not included before due to having too much info in the same table.

I have therefore reverted Moleoz's edits again until they have made their case for their proposed format to be adopted and accepted.Ratchet8865 (talk) 10:59, 6 June 2022 (UTC)

Alright, I'm completely fine with your format if I'm allowed to organise the players into individual sections for player positions. I'll remove individual player position in the players column and change it to a header and add the players beneath that, example all defenders under a bar that says "defenders", Midfielders under a bar that says "Midfielders., I will also change the colours of the info bars and end at that. OK @Moleoz. The default to date has been to order the players in squad number order. If you want to sort by Pos, it is possible using the sortable column on Pos. (but that functionality may not be available on mobile browsers). If there is a feeling it would be better to default to sort by position first then squad number, I don't have a problem with that too.

I'm not sure how easy it will be to add 'bars' to title each section by position as the current format is defined by a template; and control what happens with those bars when individual columns are sorted. If someone has a suggested solution to that I will listen.

Changing colour schemes is also no problem for me. Let me know if I need to change aspects of the template code. What colour do you propose. Ratchet8865 (talk) 11:21, 6 June 2022 (UTC)

I'll use my format, but add the sections that exist in your format to my format, easy enough, I'll not include Goals+assists though, just appearances for the club, and I'll add a notes section. Is that fine? Moleoz (talk) 11:35, 6 June 2022 (UTC)

I'd still prefer Apps, goal, assists and clean sheets to be included. Why exclude them? Since the current format includes all the features you want, except bars to separate GK, DF etc, why the need to change it? I've already changed the colour scheme as per your changes. Goals and Assists of a player are not really necessary, Appearances is fine, I'll add appearances and transfer fee(i guess) to the squad list, notes can just be added as a , so that column isint necessary. I'll make the squad list based on what I said and add it to the squad list, then you can debate on whether what I made is better or what the current squad list is. Basically, I'll make the list without goals+assists(It also adds an unnecessary column for clean sheets), and after I made it we'll debate if i should add goals+assists too, alright? You seem very determined to revert to your format. I would prefer to stick with the current one, but I admit to being biased towards it because of the work I've done previously to it. Maybe we should both wait until some other users have entered the conversation. I am very much quite biased and determined to add my changes, and I commend you for recognising that, and I do accept that we both hold our work to the highest regard and prefer our work to the other. Alright, we'll keep your version of the table till the 10th, and on the 10th, if noone else enters the conversation, I will change it to my version, while incorporating elements from your version. I have no particular preference for one style of table over the other but I do think we should be consistent with other season articles, and if everyone other club's article has one style and we have a different one, then I agree with the change. I do think fee should be included if previous club is to be included, feel less strongly about statistics for past seasons. OZOO (t) (c) 22:04, 6 June 2022 (UTC)

Orphaned references in 2022–23 Manchester City F.C. season

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of 2022–23 Manchester City F.C. season's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Fixture list or Results list

I know a few seasons ago there was a consensus not to list all league fixtures at the start of the season due to several reasons, but this season there have already been a few attempts to do so. As I am about to revert the latest attempt, I thought it would be helpful to list the previous arguments for not providing a full fixture list and see if we can reach a consensus again. The reasons why a full fixture list should not be included are:

• Fixture lists are subject to copyright and there could be a fee liable for publishing them in full
• Fixture lists are subject to change, especially due to broadcasting requirements and postponements
• Wikipedia is primarily an encyclopedia and as such pages should be a record of past and current events and not listings of future ones. The WP: WikiProject Football club season template shows results only and not fixtures.

Can we therefore agree to continue to show only a couple of future fixtures for each competition and not the whole season? Ratchet8865 (talk) 14:54, 15 July 2022 (UTC)

It does not make sense to me at all. The vast majority of football clubs seasons articles show the whole list because that how it is logical. Fixtures are one of the most important and relevant information in the article and obviously I want to see all games ahead, not just a few of them. I click on the wiki article to find this kind of information - why should I visit other websites to see fixtures? Penepi 10:15, 21 July 2022 (UTC)
