Oliva vidua, common name the black olive, is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Olividae, the olives.[2]

Description edit

The length of the shell varies between 28 mm and 70 mm.

This species was responsible for five fatal cases of neurotoxic food poisoning in Sabah, Malaysia.[3]

Distribution edit

Oliva vidua is endemic to the tropical Indo-Pacific Ocean,[4] occurring in the Mascarene Basin, the Bay of Bengal, the Philippines, Indonesia, Australia and New Guinea.
