The International School Utrecht (ISU) is a primary and secondary school that provides education from International Baccalaureate programmes, those being the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), IB Middle Years Programme (MYP), and the IB Diploma Programme (DP).[1]. It is the first international school in Utrecht and has been in operation since August 2012[2]
Information edit
Leadership edit
The founding director of the school, Jaap Mos, established the school in September of 2012.[3] and subsequently served as the head of school until 2015[4]. The next head of the school, Rynette de Villiers, was headmaster from from 2015 to 2020[5]. The current head of the school is Marieke Folkers, which has been in the position since the beginning of 2021[6]. The deputy head of the school, Kate Corder, has been in the position since the founding in 2012 and still currently serves as deputy[4]
Groups and Administration edit
- ISU is a member of Dutch International Schools (DIS), and thus affiliated with Daltonschool Rijnsweerd and UniC, for primary and secondary education respectively.
- The primary department of ISU is governed by SPO Utrecht, a board for primary schools in Utrecht.
- The secondary department of ISU is governed by NUOVO Schools, a board for secondary schools in Utrecht.
Curriculum edit
The curriculum includes every International Baccalaureate programme apart from the Career-related Programme, meaning a student can stay in the school up until further Tertiary education. Upon graduation from the Diploma Programme students will gain an International Baccalaureate Diploma[7].
Accreditations edit
ISU offers a complete International Baccalaureate curriculum as shown above and has been accredited since 26 November 2015[8]. The school is accredited by the Council of International Schools, thus checked regularly in its operational capability[9].
Growth edit
International School Utrecht is growing fast with almost a thousand students in October 2022.[10], the recent move from the Van Bijnkershoeklaan to a temporary location at the Van Deventerlaan is supporting this growth. The temporary location is currently in use to support the growing school until the construction of a new building in the Utrecht Science Park, the largest of Utrecht University's campuses[11], is complete in 2026[12]. With this new building the local municipality is aiming to make the city more internationally friendly[12]
