Composition is the first studio album by guitarist Lindsey Boullt. The fusion project was self-released in June 2007 and has global distribution with Just For Kicks Music, Marquee Inc/Japan and in the US with Abstract Logix.
Critical Reception
Glenn Astarita in All About Jazz praised "the ensembles' keen enactment of world music and power-lined progressive rock."[1] Modern Guitarist said that "Composition is an intense album charged with influences ranging from metal and middle eastern music to jazz-rock and everything in between." [2] Walt Kolosky for jazz.com wrote: "Lindsey Boullt seems to have no limiations on guitar. Composition is full of myriad styles and sounds. Boullt may play lush acoustic arpeggios on one tune or machinegun salvos on the next. It all depends on what the music calls for."[3] Peter Thelen wrote in expose.org: "Boullt's debut CD Composition is a surprisingly masterful and well-paced collection of guitar-based instrumental pieces that spark the imagination and elevate the spirit electric." [4] Christopher J. Kelter in roughedge.com said "The sound of Composition leans heavily towards Middle Eastern melodies and the flamenco style...It reminds me of the huge impression that the neo-classical fusion instrumental rockers had back in the late '80s." [5] Michael Hoenig in "Hooked On Music" from Germany wrote: "People who want to think outside the box of traditional prog rock and don't want to be served the same sauce, as is so often the case, can access 'Composition' by Lindsey Boullt without hesitation."[6] Other reviewers, including Andreas W. Fiesler from Germany [7], Carlos Vaz for Brazil's Progressiverockbr [8] and Progarchives.com [9] also praised the album.
Flawed Perfection included this in their review: "Composition combines the jazz fusion and rhythmic complexity of 70’s artists like Mahavishnu Orchestra with the hard rock/metal styles of other guitar solo artists like Joe Satriani. Boullt’s compositional skills, however, make him stand out from his contemporaries."[10]
The release of Composition resulted in note.com from Japan ranking Boullt as the #29 best fusion guitarist in the world. [11] A series of interviews including for Euro-Rock Press [12], the opportunity to compose the music for the movie Adopted [13] and endorsement deals, including for Gibson Guitars, followed due to the success of Composition.
