Zach Goode is an American musician known as the lead singer for the multi-platinum band Smash Mouth. He is also a singer and songwriter based in Los Angeles, California.[1]

Career

edit

At the age of 16, Zach left home with only a backpack and a guitar, singing in rock bands while putting himself through high school.[2] His journey took him to various places, including picking coffee in Hawaii and traveling around the world. Eventually, he settled in San Diego, California, where he fronted several award-winning bands, including Ghoulspoon,[3] Divided by Zero, and Secret Seven.[4] During this time, he played hundreds of shows with notable acts such as Foo Fighters, Blink-182, No Doubt, Deftones, Korn, Sugar Ray, Incubus, Slayer, and Sublime, and released seven albums of original music.[5]

In the 2010s, Zach continued to diversify his musical career. He played and rapped in the mock-senior citizen performance art band Geezer,[6] covered smooth vocals for Yacht Rock titans The Windbreakers, and sang the lead vocals in a theater production for the 50th anniversary of The Beatles' Abbey Road. Zach also made a name for himself in the voice acting world in Los Angeles, most notably as the voice of a national Taco Bell television ad campaign.[7]

Smash Mouth

edit

On March 1, 2022, Zach was announced as the new lead singer for the multi-platinum band Smash Mouth.[8] The official announcement was made on Kevan Kenney's Audacy show live on KROQ, where bassist Paul De Lisle introduced Zach Goode as the new frontman of the "All Star" group. De Lisle expressed enthusiasm about Zach joining the band, noting his diverse background from Brooklyn, Provincetown, New York City, and Los Angeles.[9]

Following his introduction, Smash Mouth launched their new era with a cover of Rick Astley's iconic 1987 hit "Never Gonna Give You Up."

As of 2024, Zach and Smash Mouth have released 13 new songs to the Smash Mouth discography, including six originals and a full-length Christmas album.
