Watchlist preferred

I hope that putting Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/Templates/Issue‎ or an analogous page on my Watchlist will continue to work. I prefer not to have automated messages delivered to my User Talk page, and the Watchlist works just fine for me. – Jonesey95 (talk) 02:02, 28 February 2017 (UTC)

No reason to fret. Perhaps I wasn't clear enough -- I see no reason to implement major changes. Even if we were to shift to the extension instead of talkpage delivery, we would still be publishing on wiki pages, so the watchlist approach would still work fine. RSS feed

I'm grateful for the RSS feed, but is there a way to get the single-page edition into it as an alternative subscription option? Right now it's 10 separate entries. Funcrunch (talk) 19:25, 28 February 2017 (UTC)

Great question. I think evad37 is working on a separate RSS feed for the single page edition; but it would be good to talk through what's the best overall setup. I'd imagine getting the Archives page (table of contents) posted in the main RSS feed, alongside the individual pages, would be pretty straightforward as well. Does that seem like a reasonable approach? To restate:

• One RSS feed with the TOC and all individual articles
• Another RSS feed with only the Single Page edition

@Evad37: Thanks for the quick follow-up! It looks a bit strange in Feedly (the RSS reader I use), but is mostly readable. The contents list at the top is duplicated, with the links not clickable in the first iteration, and some of the images are gigantic, squishing the text to the right (especially in the traffic report section). This is using the Feedly web site with Firefox v.51.0.1 on macOS 10.12.3 (Sierra), as well as on the Feedly app on my Android 4.3 phone (where the traffic report text is squished to the right even when the images are sized appropriately). Mac Firefox 48, in the "Single-page" view. In Chrome for Windows, it looks fine, all the same font size. I should try looking at it while logged out on the Mac. – Jonesey95 (talk) 20:34, 28 February 2017 (UTC)

My comments

I found out about the Signpost when I asked on one of the Help Desks or somewhere about where I could find news about Wikipedia. After that I went back through the archives, reading one a week or something like that. I never wanted to subscribe since that just clutters up my talk page. Instead, I put a link to the main page in a list (stored outside Wikipedia) of frequently viewed sites that I use. I certainly wouldn't want email since I don't like having my email cluttered up either. Which reminds me. Now that I can't use Yahoo, I haven't gone to the email I use for Wikipedia lately.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 16:08, 5 April 2017 (UTC)
