Female swimming strokes subcategories edit

I've created subcategories for the female backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, freestyle and medley swimmers' categories. I've made country subcategories for each swimmer such as Australian backstroke swimmers, Australian breaststroke swimmers to name a few. If anybody wants to help put the swimmers into categories (there are a lot to sort) then that would be great. Thanks. SarahTHunter (talk) 16:14, 1 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

You should be aware that such country-stroke categories has been explicitly excluded by consensus. You're welcome to try to change that consensus if you want, but to my mind it's a pretty clear-cut example of WP:OVERCATEGORISATION. Also @SarahTHunter:, you've left a trail of red links to categories which has added to the Special:WantedCategories backlog in breach of WP:REDNOT which says you should always either create the category or not add a red link in the first place, it's different to articles where red links are encouraged.Le Deluge (talk) 00:00, 2 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
Okay, I never about this - I didn't know there is such thing as "overcategorising". I'll stick to creating Paralympic swimmers pages instead which I enjoy doing. I am very, very sorry for the upset that I have caused; I thought it was a good idea at first because there are lots of swimmers under one stroke category (seeing that there were only two subcategories - American and Canadian - made me think that it could be an idea to categorise more swimmers by their representing country). I just thought it would help others but I knew this would cause a bit of stir. I will not do it again, you can delete the categories if you want but I am so sorry for upsetting you.
