Page display edit

Rosiestep: As a result of your page display enhancements, the columns are now all over the place with new articles side by side with participants, etc. Can't we go back to something approximating this?--Ipigott (talk) 12:13, 13 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Ipigott: I am so sorry to have messed up the columns. Which browser are you using? I'm using Firefox and all is fine, so I don't see how to fix. Can you tell what needs to happen to fix it, for example change {{div col}} vs. {{div col|30em}} or {{div col|colwidth=30em}} or something like that? --Rosiestep (talk) 16:13, 13 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Rosiestep: I'm using Firefox too but I've just checked it out on Microsoft Edge too and the same thing happens. Perhaps you can't see the problem. If you go to "Participants", you have one LH column of the participants and two RH columns of new articles. Scroll further down and on both Firefox and Edge you have DYK, Featured pictures and even the Women in Red navbox in the RH column with two new articles columns on the left. I tried to sort it out but couldn't see what caused the problem. The page on the Anthropologists is fine if you can use that as a basis. If you're still stuck, perhaps we should move this to the main talk page where other people can come in and comment.--Ipigott (talk) 17:38, 13 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
Rosiestep: You seem to have more or less fixed the problem on Firefox but on Edge there's a huge gap before the new articles are displayed.--Ipigott (talk) 17:46, 13 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
I see that Edge was fine here.--Ipigott (talk) 17:56, 13 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Anyone with Photoshop skills want to try to fix this image? edit

Done, MopTop. See updated file with stamp and pixelation removed.

@Netherzone: You're a genius! Thank you!!! --MopTop (talk) 18:45, 19 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
Netherzone I LOVE what you did for MopTop's photo and am also in need of photo-assistance. I have two images of June Beer, either of which would have to be loaded as fair use. This one on page 11 has a lot of noise. I think I'd rather use this one on page 56, as it shows her as she is most often described, but it is even muddier. Is there any way to clean these up? I can only load one as fair use, so if you could tell me which would most likely clean up best, I can load it. Or if it is simpler, you can load it after it is fixed. Not sure which is the best way. SusunW (talk) 00:40, 21 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
SusunW I'm happy to help. Upload the image you prefer to Commons with the photo credit and caption. Let me know when you have done that, send me a link, and I will correct/retouch dust & scratches and re-upload an updated version. Netherzone (talk) 00:52, 21 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
Netherzone you totally rock! It's uploaded here [2] not sure if you can get rid of the paintings behind her too, since we are unable to tell what they depict, but just getting rid of the graininess would help. SusunW (talk) 01:07, 21 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
SusunW Done - the original was very grainy. It's a bit improved, but it's not perfect. The new version should be on her page. Hope you prefer it to the original - I focused on mainly reducing grain on her face. Netherzone (talk) 01:20, 21 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
SusunW The original in Heresies has the photo credit line: Margaret Randall - you may want to add that to Commons. Netherzone (talk) 01:25, 21 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
Netherzone Thank you. It looks much better. I'll add the author. SusunW (talk) 01:30, 21 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Draft:Jessica O. Matthews edit

Hi all, if anyone had any feedback to give on improving this draft I'm working on for this month's editathon, I'd welcome it! Thanks much. Innisfree987 (talk) 23:35, 21 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Innisfree987 I worked on the lead section to recontextualize some of the more important content. Other feedback, the Career section focuses mainly on one project. It seems too long and detailed, but that's just my opinion. If the other major projects could be developed that may help. She certainly is notable. Netherzone (talk) 01:15, 22 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
Thanks so much for the suggestions and for pitching in Netherzone! Much appreciated. I'll see if I can't turn up more on other work. Innisfree987 (talk) 01:20, 22 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
Innisfree987 first and foremost, why are you submitting it to AfC? When I first started editing here, I was told never to submit an article there as they routinely reject articles on women, no matter how extensive the sourcing. I checked your account, you are autopatrolled, so you should be able to move the article to mainspace and just move on. Heck, you've created nearly 100 articles and only ever had 2 deleted. That indicates to me that you know what you are doing. As for sourcing, you have plenty to meet GNG. Source 1 and 4 are duplicates and need to be combined. Here [3] is an independent source that confirms the Harvard Prize, along with a few others. She also has a write up in the respected Inc. Magazine [4] which says that her business profit margins have doubled over the three years, i.e. it isn't just an idea, it's a viable business. IMO, you should give it a final copy edit, trimming some of the details, as Netherzone indicated, (if you cannot find info on projects, it can always be expanded later, once they too become viable) and move it to mainspace, foregoing AfC forevermore. SusunW (talk) 01:43, 22 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
It's looking pretty good Innisfree987. I've added some additional citations, and did some formatting and added content in the career section. Maybe you can resubmit the draft soon. There is no question she is a notable person. Netherzone (talk) 03:43, 22 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
SusunW and Netherzone, thank you both so much for your feedback, points well taken and thank you Netherzone for all your work. I have gone ahead and resubmitted (once begun in AfC I feel obliged to respect the process), but I definitely see the wisdom in just sticking to using my best sense of policy in the future, since it's always worked out so far. (I did have a tiny panic to hear two of my pages had been deleted--when did that happen?!--but I see it was my mishap last week trying to set up an archive for my talk page. Good that those are deleted!)
Thanks again, I really appreciate all the help and collaboration! Innisfree987 (talk) 18:44, 22 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
Innisfree987 let me know if it gets hung up or declined again. I'll gladly move it to mainspace ;) SusunW (talk) 18:52, 22 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
I too am here to help. Do reach out if it looks as if it will be deleted this time. Netherzone (talk) 23:01, 22 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Join me in a tiny happy dance? edit

I set a goal at the beginning of the month, to start 28 biographies of African-American women for this editathon--one per day, on average, though (unlike #100wikidays) I didn't worry too much about doing one each day--some days I did two (including the Saturday I was at Wikipedia Day LA, sitting at a table with Rosiestep and Alafarge), some days I skipped. But as of a couple hours ago, I hit 28 biographies, most of them with pictures too. In case anyone's curious:

And several of them were translated into Armenian, too. :) -Penny Richards (talk) 04:00, 1 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Flowers for you.
Congrats, Penny! Way to to! --Rosiestep (talk) 04:18, 1 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
