Status update

This Project is still keeping its head above water. Other members are adding new articles, and thanks to Wire723 we now have pages for all Wiltshire parishes and there is good progress with Grade I listed churches. I am looking after the assessments and also developing the Project page, from time to time. If you leave a message here and don’t get a speedy reply, please alert me on my talk page. Shute House Gardens

A new article has recently been created on Shute House in Wiltshire. The house is most notable for its gardens by Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe. They are only open for group visits by prior written appointment. The article would be greatly improved by some photographs of the gardens. Are there any editors who have been fortunate enough to visit and could upload some images? KJP1 (talk) 07:07, 28 August 2020 (UTC)

Welcome, KJP1. The first places to look are Wikimedia Commons and geograph.org.uk, but I can’t find any pictures there except the one already in the article. There are some on Pinterest without licences. I think our best bet is to alert Simon Burchell, who uploaded that photo and is still active. Failing that, if you can let me know when the garden is open to the public again I’ll try to go over and take some shots myself. Moonraker (talk) 19:45, 6 September 2020 (UTC)
Yes - Commons and Geograph, my normal go-to sources, are indeed disappointingly devoid of Shute House images. I regret that Pinterest, along with all social media, lies well outside my comfort zone. But Simon B sounds an excellent idea, and I have made a direct approach. As to visiting - the gardens are only open to groups by prior written appointment. And that’s before coronavirus restrictions. Perhaps we could go as a Wikipedia group! All the best, and thanks again for the splendid image of the Corsham bathing pool. KJP1 (talk) 21:34, 6 September 2020 (UTC)
Nope - Simon took the image of the house, but doesn’t have any of the gardens. We shall just have to drum up a garden party! KJP1 (talk) 08:55, 7 September 2020 (UTC)
KJP1 let’s do that, but I would suggest leaving it till the spring now. If you have a contact number, you might like to check when would suit the occupiers. I have just checked, and they don’t take part in the National Gardens Scheme. Moonraker (talk) 21:27, 25 September 2020 (UTC)

Fisherton Tunnel

Are there any members of this WP in the Salisbury area who could get a photo of the east portal of Fisherton Tunnel for use in the 2021 Salisbury rail crash article. Appears to be a main road just east of the tunnel from where a photo can be taken. A bonus would be if anyone can get a photo of the crashed trains before they get removed.
