Can the wording of the For attendees section be reworded to say "you may not post photos unless everyone in the photograph explicitly agrees to publication" or words to that effect? Obviously it's a public place and (in Canada, I think) we don't necessarily have publicity rights, but in light of recent events, we should think seriously about this. Personally, I'm happy for anyone to take pictures of my name-tag, but beyond that, I dunno... Franamax (talk) 08:10, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
- Well, we'd be in a public place. Anyone can take picture of us. As for posting the photo on Wikipedia ...well, photo releases don't seem to be policy on Wikipedia yet. By the way, one does not have to reveal user-names at a meet-up. You can just pretend you are a faceless IP editor and say your name is John/Jane Doe! I don't want to discourage anyone, but if publicity - even inadvertent - might have consequences to your sense of anonymity, then do not come to a meet-up. Cheers! - You know what. Photos being used maliciously can happen anywhere and are considerably more likely to happen among your friends than at Benny's, but still you don't tell your friends not to take pictures. This isn't an annual general meeting or a political race where we're all out to destroy each other immature children. We're members of the WikiProject Vancouver. We all have something in common. As far as I'm concerned we're a bunch of people going to Benny's for some food and drinks. It should be about having a good time like any other social gathering. I think if we're worrying about such things then we shouldn't be having this meeting at all. I'm going to meet some people I have written articles with, but if the tenor of this meeting is different and I have the wrong idea, then what's the point? Just have fun. - Yes, we're all going with the intention of having a good time and meeting like-minded people in a friendly gathering. It's all good. The context of the above discussion is that a few days ago one of Wikipedia's most loved and respected contributors needed to leave because of a sequence of events that began with a picture that was taken in good faith. I'll explain more at the meetup if you don't already know the story. People are just trying to educate others about the damage that can result from seemingly innocuous photography. As an aside though, not all of us are members of WikiProject Vancouver and some of us contribute rarely, or not at all, to local topics. Clayoquot (talk | contribs) 07:13, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
