Ironman & related articles - discussion

As part of this WikiProject's goal of improving Wikipedia's coverage of triathlon articles, I am hereby opening a discussion on the arrangement of articles relating to Ironman Triathlon.

The article Ironman Triathlon brings together many valid areas of encyclopaedic content, however perhaps they should be in separate articles. I propose:

The general idea is to follow how articles of championships in other sports are arranged – e.g. FINA World Aquatics Championships and 2007 World Aquatics Championships, or Triathlon at the Summer Olympics and Triathlon at the 2008 Summer Olympics.

I've started on an initial draft of 2008 Ironman World Championship.

Yboy83 (talk) 21:13, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

Seems reasonable to me, I may need to think a bit more about the detail. Suggest you post a link to this discussion on the relevant article talk pages (I'd do it myself, but I need to get to bed now, and will be away for most of tomorrow). Note there is already an Ironman 70.3 article.

Proposals to nominate articles for deletion

Having made quick assessments of all the Triathlon articles recently tagged with the WikiProject Triathlon banner, I propose the following list of article is proposed for deletion, either by WP:PROD or WP:AfD. Please add your comments, and additions to the list below. Feel free to start the deletion process if you agree, otherwise I will start in the next week or so. Yboy83 (talk) 10:34, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

Completed discussions
  • Brad Kearns - many tags (notability, lack of references, orphaned, advertising, neutrality) present for 6+ months, yet no editing performed
    • A very badly written article, already failed-prod, but undoubtedly notable, worth keeping. Obviously needs re-writing, but that's what we're here for. NSH001 (talk) 12:45, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
  • Courtney Crutcher - non-notable: WP:ATHLETE
    • not a professional triathlete (according to the article), so desn't belong in this project, surely? NSH001 (talk) 13:04, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
  • Dan Empfield - non-notable: WP:ATHLETE
    • what a mess - earlier versions have a lot more info, but all unsourced; if true there is more than enough for notability (slowtwitch, etc). A small expansion (from the present tiny version) with sourced info should be enough to keep. NSH001 (talk) 13:59, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
  • Formula One Triathlon - non-notable: insignificant coverage WP:GNG, orphaned
  • IM Talk - tagged with non-notable: WP:WEB, orphaned
    • very badly written, will need a lot of work to clean up. But there are plenty of refs in independent tri mags, etc. to satisfy WP:WEB. Also notable as they have interviewed all the top Ironman triathletes, and wikilinks will undoubtedly appear as we expand the latter's articles. Obvious keep. NSH001 (talk) 23:13, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
  • Jason Gooding - non-notable: WP:ATHLETE
    • easily satisfies WP:ATHLETE (Commonwealth Games, World Cup competitor, etc). Beware systemic bias WP:BIAS. Keep. Needs refs and improvement, though. NSH001 (talk) 22:30, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
  • Jay Challenge - non-notable: insignificant coverage WP:GNG, orphaned
    • borderline, I won't object if you PROD it NSH001 (talk) 22:17, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
      • Have removed triathlon category and project tag - event is not a triathlon. Yboy83 (talk) 10:03, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
  • Joe Friel - non-notable: WP:ATHLETE
    • not an athlete, he's a triathlon coach. I've corrected his category. Seems to be notable both as coach and author. Keep.
  • Jon Blais - non-notable: WP:ATHLETE
    • definitely keep, noted for the "Blazeman roll", which Chrissie Wellington does at the finish of all her IM races (one of the items on my to-do list for her article) NSH001 (talk) 12:29, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
  • Marc Herremans - non-notable: WP:ATHLETE
    • top 10 finisher in Hawaii easily satisfies WP:ATHLETE, keep. Article has lots of problems, written mostly by someone whose mother tongue is not English. A lot of work to clean up. NSH001 (talk) 22:47, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
  • Ruben Figueres Alario - non-notable: WP:ATHLETE
    • previously PRODed, so you'll need to take it to AfD, where I suspect it'll be kept (notable as swimmer). Overall winner of a sprint distance triathlon, so marginal notability for the project. NSH001 (talk) 15:11, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
  • Sally Edwards - non-notable: WP:ATHLETE, orphaned
    • easily notable, both as author and athlete, assuming article is correct (needs refs, though). Keep. --NSH001 (talk) 14:27, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
  • Scott Eder - non-notable: WP:ATHLETE, orphaned
    • survived an earlier AfD. Is not a professional athlete, nor is he a triathlon coach. Suggest we just remove him from the project and the "American triathletes" category. NSH001 (talk) 15:28, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
      •   Done Yboy83 (talk) 14:51, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
  • XTERRA Triathlon Global Tour 2007 - Already WP:PROD - orphaned
    •   Done Yboy83 (talk) 09:25, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

Thanks NSH for your input - maybe if I hadn't super-quick scan-read these articles then the list wouldn't have been so long! Yboy83 (talk) 14:51, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

That's OK, it doesn't hurt to have a convenient list of dubious articles. I'm still considering the remaining articles, which will probably take a few more days (too many to look at all at once). NSH001 (talk) 16:09, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

Coordinators' working group

Hi! I'd like to draw your attention to the new WikiProject coordinators' working group, an effort to bring both official and unofficial WikiProject coordinators together so that the projects can more easily develop consensus and collaborate. This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators.

All designated project coordinators are invited to join this working group. If your project hasn't formally designated any editors as coordinators, but you are someone who regularly deals with coordination tasks in the project, please feel free to join as well. — Delievered by §hepBot (Disable) on behalf of the WikiProject coordinators' working group at 06:49, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.

If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.

Sponsorship and advertising - esp. triathlete biographies and race names

Firstly, I've recently come across some bios with sections listing "Sponsors" and "Partners". Examples:

In my opinion, these sections should be removed. All pro triathletes have sponsors, often the same ones, and such lists add nothing to the articles. Just WP:ADVERTISING.

Secondly, do we want the sponsor's name included in race titles? I notice some of the races listed in 2008 Ironman World Championship include the sponsor's name, others don't. I'm pretty sure we don't want it in article titles (for example, we have London Marathon, and Flora London Marathon is just a redirect).

Maybe we should develop a guideline on how to present sponsorship? To my surprise, I couldn't find one already on Wikipedia (I didn't spend too much time looking, though).

--NSH001 (talk) 12:23, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

I agree the "sponsors" and "partners" should be removed in general, with those particularly notable incorporated into prose text where appropriate. Lists of sponsors change from year to year, and knowing how little some of these articles are edited, such lists become out of date quite quickly.
As for race names - the race names I used in 2008 Ironman World Championship were those displayed on the IM webpages for each particular event - some events have sponsors with naming rights, others appear not to. For article names, I would think WP:NAME could be followed by using the "most easily recognized name", which in my opinion in these cases is without the sponsors name.
Some sort of guideline on all this would be great if we can find/write one, but perhaps this would be best at WP:SPORTS level as there are without doubt other sports with the same issues.

Athlete bios results sections

Following on from the above discussion about sponsors... the "results" sections of athlete biogs - is (e.g.) 17th place in an obscure/local event really notable? Should we consider limiting to top 3/5/10 positions and decide upon a list of events which are suitable for inclusion in these sections?

Also there are numerous table styles being used for such results. I'm going to start a template system to help with standardising the layout. Something like this with sample data from Chrissie's latest few results:

Tri-bio-results-top

end

My initial thoughts were to allow split times like "Swim+T1" using colspans, but this would then break the sortablility. Obviously needs work before implementation. Yboy83 (talk) 10:42, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

Are there enough articles on this subject to justify an Outline of triathlon?

Here's a discussion about subject development you might find interesting.

The Transhumanist 00:04, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

P.S.: See Wikipedia's collection of outlines at WP:OOK.

This does seem to be a Good Idea. I think there are certainly enough articles (and potential articles) for such a page. Trouble is, there are only two of us active on this project (Yboy83 and me), and we both divide our time between this and other projects, in addition to having other commitments in real life. So it may have to wait a little while. --NSH001 (talk) 13:11, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

GAN backlog reduction - Sports and recreation

As you may know, we currently have 400 good article nominations, with a large number of them being in the sports and recreation section. As such, the waiting time for this is especially long, much longer than it should be. As a result of this, I am asking each sports-related WikiProject to review two or three of these nominations. If this is abided by, then the backlog should be cleared quite quickly. Some projects nominate a lot but don't review, or vice-versa, and following this should help to provide a balance and make the waiting time much smaller so that our articles can actually get reviewed! Request for comment on Biographies of living people

Hello Wikiproject! Currently there is a discussion which will decide whether wikipedia will delete 49,000 articles about a living person without references, here:

Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Biographies of living people

Since biographies of living people covers so many topics, nearly all wikiproject topics will be effected.

The two opposing positions which have the most support is:

  1. supports the deletion of unreferenced articles about a living person, User:Jehochman
  2. opposes the deletion of unreferenced articles about a living person, except in limited circumstances, User:Collect

Comments are welcome. Keep in mind that by default, editor's comments are hidden. Simply press edit next to the section to add your comment.

Please keep in mind that at this point, it seems that editors support deleting unreferenced article if they are not sourced, so your project may want to pursue the projects below.

Sports Notability

There is discussion ongoing at Wikipedia_talk:BIO#RFC:_WP:Athlete_Professional_Clause_Needs_Improvement debating possible changes to the WP:ATHLETE notability guideline. As a result, some have suggested using WP:NSPORT as an eventual replacement for WP:ATHLETE. Editing has begun at WP:NSPORT, please participate to help refine the notability guideline for the sports covered by this wikiproject. —Joshua Scott (LiberalFascist) 03:16, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons

The WikiProject Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons (UBLPs) aims to reduce the number of unreferenced biographical articles to under 30,000 by June 1, primarily by enabling WikiProjects to easily identify UBLP articles in their project's scope. There were over 52,000 unreferenced BLPs in January 2010 and this has been reduced to 32,665 as of May 16. A bot is now running daily to compile a list of all articles that are in both Category:All unreferenced BLPs and have been tagged by a WikiProject. Note that the bot does NOT place unreferenced tags or assign articles to projects - this has been done by others previously - it just compiles a list.

Your Project's list can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Triathlon/Unreferenced BLPs. As of May 17 you have approximately 45 articles to be referenced. The list of all other WikiProject UBLPs can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons/WikiProjects.

Your assistance in reviewing and referencing these articles is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, please don't hestitate to ask either at WT:URBLP or at my talk page. Thanks, The-Pope (talk) 17:16, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

  • I added 9 sources to the bio on Mark Allen and expanded it just a little. It's now off the list of unreferenced bios. Niteshift36 (talk) 07:11, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

Triathlon articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release

Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the Triathlon articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.

We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

Unassessed articles

I did produce today a list of unassessed triathlon articles. Feel free to start assess and reduce the list. --Kslotte (talk) 14:45, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

I've added project banners to most of these, using AWB. This report has also prompted me to set up a new subcategory to help keep irrelevant pages off such reports. See the following section.
--NSH001 (talk) 21:44, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

There are still 13 pages left on the list, one of which has already (correctly in my view) been proposed for deletion. Could other editors please take a look and consider whether they should be:

  1. proposed/nominated for deletion
  2. excluded from this project (placed in Category:Miscellaneous triathletes)
  3. taken up as part of this project (given a project banner on the talk page)

--NSH001 (talk) 19:03, 21 September 2010 (UTC)

Category:Miscellaneous triathletes

The subcategory Category:Miscellaneous triathletes is intended for people who take part in triathlons, but who really have nothing to do with this project.

See, for example, Andrew Baldwin, who used to be in Category:American triathletes. In theory, in order to remove him from the scope of this project, we could just remove him from this category, but sooner or later someone would be bound to restore the category. Having him in the new subcategory should avoid this happening.

As the note on the category page states, members of the new subcategory should generally be excluded from WikiProject Triathlon maintenance reports. I've added notes to that effect on Category:Triathlon and Category:Triathletes.

--NSH001 (talk) 21:44, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

NSH001, I apprieate that you start organizing articles, but there is few issues in my opinion. --Kslotte (talk) 13:48, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
#1 For me it feels a bit odd to exclude these from your WikiProject. For example an actor; is it better that movie freak or a triathlon freak write about their triathon achievements? My opnion is clear that the triathlon freak are better to write about it. Anyway, to exlude these is according to your scope. --Kslotte (talk) 13:48, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
#2 We need a better name then "Miscellaneous", it doesn't decribe much what it is about. --Kslotte (talk) 13:48, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
What about "Triathletes with other careers"? --Kslotte (talk) 13:52, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
#3 The category description has information related to WikiProject. I have read some guidelines that maintenance categories (include WikiProjects) and end-user categories shouldn't be mixed. Either should this be a pure maintenance category (WikiProject, hidden or some maintenance cat as parent) or a pure normal category for end-users. Ordinary user that only read Wikipedia don't know anything about WikiProjects. --Kslotte (talk) 13:48, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
Kslotte, thanks for your work on this. I think having this category for maintenance is essential, as it gets tedious having to look at the same articles each time. This doesn't stop editors writing about someone's triathlon activity if it's relevant to his or her life.
I take the point that maintenance categories should be separated, so I'll look into making this a hidden category. In that case it won't matter if someone puts them (its members) into one of the normal triathlete subcategories, as long as there is some mechanism for reminding people who produce maintenance reports of its existence - if not a note on the parent category page, then what?
Regarding the name, I'm open to suggestions. My first thought was "Non-professional triathletes", or "Amateur triathletes" but it's quite possible that some of them could hold a pro licence while doing something else for a living - and we want to avoid anything that might appear derogatory. "Triathletes with other careers" isn't quite right, since it's possible that triathletes who are notable as such may also have another career.

Notability within the sport of triathlon

(Conversation moved from NSH001's talk page to generate more opinions)

I noticed you had updated the notability requirements to NSPORT to include a podium finish in any WTC Ironman and 70.3 race, not just the championship races. I would contend that with the pace and rate new races are being added (particularly for the 70.3 distance) that some of this is watering down the meaningfulness of placing in the top three. Just this past weekend there were four 70.3 distance race under the WTC brand. Additionally, I think this places some undue weight on the WTC brand and leaves it open to include podium finishes for any of the newly emerged Rev3 brand of iron/half-iron distance race. Thoughts? Perhaps this needs to be discussed within in Triathlon Project. Barkeep Chat | $ 19:42, 21 September 2010 (UTC)

Feel free to start a section on WT:WPTRI (I'm feeling a bit lonely on there). I thought the previous version was too strict, since it would only allow 3 athletes of each gender to qualify each year, and didn't think that was what you had intended. I also wanted to include REV3, Challenge Series, and Abu Dhabi, but not until we had articles on them - it would look a bit silly to have redlinks in such a section! --NSH001 (talk) 20:01, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
You're right in feeling lonely since there may only be 2-3 active editors for the project (present company included).
Outside of ITU, I think it's hard to nail down what constitutes notable finish in a simple bulleted list or paragraph. Part of it is the race itself. Is the winner of IM Malaysia or China more notable than the winner of Wildflower or Challenge Roth? Abu Dhabi is an impressive win but the race is only in its infancy. I've seen a few age groupers/non-pros place in the top 3 at a 70.3 race. I think what makes a finish notable (within in the sport of triathlon) is a deep field of competitors. What about keeping notability for WTC races at the championship level and add qualifier list of "other" races - races that can stand on their own (or have the potential to) as a separate Wikipedia article? I think we should keep in mind the larger Wikipedia policy of WP:NOTE in mind. Barkeep 20:41, 21 September 2010 (UTC)

Proposed changes

I've been contemplating changing/updating NSPORT standards for triathlon. I've proposed the changes below as shown in italics. These are based on some conversations and AfD discussions I've come across while also keeping in mind the caveat "If the article does meet the criteria set forth below, then it is likely that sufficient sources exist to satisfy the inclusion criteria for a stand-alone article." I'd appreciate any thoughts, opposition, or alternative proposals (if in fact changes should be made).

1.Have competed in Triathlon at the Summer Olympics or have had a podium finish at the Commonwealth Games.

(remove Pan American Games, which will fall under #3 below)

2.Have had an elite division top ten finish in an International Triathlon Union sanctioned championship event or in the final ITU Triathlon World Cup standings (prior to 2009 ) or the ITU World Triathlon Series standings.

(broader scope for those athletes who place in the top ten and will still likely meet the inclusion criteria, and reflects the ITU change from a single Olympic distance championship event to their triathlon series)

3.Have an elite level podium finish at an ITU Continental Championship.

(broader scope for those athletes who place in the top three and will still likely meet the inclusion criteria)

4.Have had a professional division top ten finish at the Ironman World Championship or at the Ironman 70.3 World Championship.

(broader scope, particularly since the WTC has added a point ranking system since the NSPORT standards were originally added.)

5. Have had a podium finish at the XTERRA Triathlon championships.

(remains the same as the international scope of this event and its series is not broad enough)

I think if a triathlete does not meet the standards here (e.g. an unknown age grouper placing in the overall top three of an Ironman series event, or a win at a Challenge event) they should be included only if they can meet the basic WP:GNG guidelines or if they fall under other notability guideleines. BarkeepChat/$ 15:08, 8 December 2011 (UTC)

(Just some quick thoughts before I go to bed.) This is a definite improvement on the existing criteria, and you could go ahead and make these changes, without prejudice to the following considerations. However, I'm not sure about excluding Challenge events (Roth is almost a world championship in itself, with ~500k spectators - plus my own view that the WTC needs a good dose of competition), or Abu Dhabi (highest prize money on the long-distance circuit outside Kona, I think). Also difficult to see how a winner of an Ironman event should be excluded. I really need to do some more research to refine these criteria, and compare them with other sports, to get a "feel" for the right level. --NSH001 (talk) 00:47, 9 December 2011 (UTC)
I largely agree with your points and would be receptive to adding/modifying the proposed standards to include that. My only concern is with the expansion of WTC, Challenge, Rev3, etc. events that there is the potential for dilution of the talent pool (at the pro/elite level). Here is what I'm thinking (and some of this borrowed from the Athletic/Track & Field).
6.) Has won an event that:
a. Has been the site of exceptional performances, records (bests), or an event that meets WP:GNG. (Would cover Roth, Abu Dhabi, Wildflower, Escape from Alcatraz, and any other event that is out there or has yet to be created)
b. Has a starting pro/elite field of 15 males or 10 female competitors. (the field sizes can be modified, but this would allow for any 70.3 race, but exclude those races where the pro field is minuscule)
c. It has been held over a unique course or distance consistently over a period of at least 5 years. (covers events like Norseman, number of years can be changed)
BarkeepChat/$ 14:18, 9 December 2011 (UTC)
This has been up for a month. If there are no other thoughts I'll update the NSPORT page. BarkeepChat/$ 16:55, 9 January 2012 (UTC)
Yes, update NSPORT, including your condition 6). It's not perfect, but it's much, much better than the existing version, and it can always be modified as we go on. Just one legalistic small point: "unique" isn't quite right, since courses get modified all the time (such as the bike course at Roth, which seems to get changed every year because of road works; they've also changed the run course through the town). I'd say "over the same, or similar course". Good work, by the way. --NSH001 (talk) 20:04, 9 January 2012 (UTC)
Maybe we can keep thinking about that last one. If we say "over the same, or similar course" for the last five years then all of a sudden my local sprint triathlon now could be considered a significant win (if I understand you correctly). I think the direction I was going for when I wrote that part was to include races that are noted more for their course, landscape, difficulty, etc. than the competitive field that races in them. BarkeepChat/$ 21:37, 9 January 2012 (UTC)
Ahh, looks like I misinterpreted what you meant by "unique" (I took it as meaning "identical"). I had also interpreted your condition 6) as meaning 6a AND 6b AND 6c. I suspect you may mean something like 6b AND (6a OR 6c). Could you re-word to clarify? Thanks. --NSH001 (talk) 14:43, 10 January 2012 (UTC)
Well, the more I think about (bare with me as my thoughts keep evolving), I'm more inclined to just have it state "Has won an event that has a starting pro/elite field of 15 males or 10 female competitors" which I think would capture all major non ITU/WTC races. I'll remove the rest because I think it can be open to interpretation, particularly with words like "exceptional" and "unique" and giving consideration to WP:BLP1E. If something falls outside of this it can be judged on a case by case basis. Additionally, we can have a separate: "Has set a record for a standard distance event or leg." Let me know if I'm missing something. BarkeepChat/$ 16:22, 10 January 2012 (UTC)
(belated response) yes, agreed. Good work. --NSH001 (talk) 11:55, 16 October 2013 (UTC)

ITU Triathlon World Championships

Shouldn't these articles from 2009 be names ITU Triathlon World Championship Series. As that is what it is? Globalwheels (talk) 22:58, 4 September 2011 (UTC)

Even though this user has been banned I think a good discussion point has been brought up. I'd like to see if there is any other thoughts on this. I would be up for changing the 2009-2011 to read "20XX ITU World Championship Series" since that is how the ITU had referred to it. Additionally, all subsequent articles going forward be titled "20XX ITU World Triathlon Series" to reflect the recent ITU name change. BarkeepChat/$ 14:17, 8 December 2011 (UTC)
Yes, agreed, obviously. --NSH001 (talk) 00:49, 9 December 2011 (UTC)

WikiWomen's History Month

Hi everyone. March is Women's History Month and I'm hoping a few folks here at WP:Triathlon will have interest in putting on events (on and off wiki) related to women's roles in triathlons. We've created an event page on English Wikipedia (please translate!) and I hope you'll find the inspiration to participate. These events can take place off wiki, like edit-a-thons, or on wiki, such as themes and translations. Please visit the page here: WikiWomen's History Month. Thanks for your consideration and I look forward to seeing events take place! SarahStierch (talk) 21:13, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

Ironman Melbourne

Well, it's a little embarassing that the Germans have beaten us to an article on an Ironman event in an English speaking country... anyway, I managed to take photos of 12 of the top 13 finishers, would be nice to give Craig Alexander (triathlete) and Cameron Brown (triathlete) amongst others, some photos. pfctdayelise (talk) 12:13, 25 March 2012 (UTC)

Actually, it's mostly just one editor on de:wp, but he's been gradually writing new articles for Ironman races over the past few years. See de:Kategorie:Ironman-Wettbewerb. He's also done some articles on 70.3 races de:Kategorie:Ironman 70.3-Wettbewerb, though most of them are still in subsections of de:Ironman 70.3. No reason why we couldn't do something similar, it's just not very high up on my list of wiki-priorities. Perhaps you'd like to help? In the meantime, you could add an image to the infobox on Crowie (easy - just use the "| image =" parameter) and to the medal table for Cameron (or better, set up a new infobox for him), which would be very welcome. Thanks for asking here. --NSH001 (talk) 17:20, 25 March 2012 (UTC)
Oops, sorry, I forgot to include the link - [on Flickr]. I have a few shots of Alexander, none perfect, so if you have a preference let me know, or if anyone wants to transfer them themselves please feel free. pfctdayelise (talk) 11:02, 26 March 2012 (UTC)

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:48, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
