Category change

I am in the process of changing the Category name. I have filed a formal request for permission here as follows:

Are there any objections?--KeithbobTalk 02:25, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

This is accurate and thanks for catching this error and requesting the change. I wonder why no one noticed this until now.(olive (talk) 02:29, 10 April 2012 (UTC))
OK it seems that the change was approved and the change was performed by a bot so now the page is correct.   Done--KeithbobTalk 00:38, 11 April 2012 (UTC)

AfD for TM related article

Can be found here if anyone would like to participate.--KeithbobTalk 02:27, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

Auto-Archiving for this page

I don't know how or why but this talk page has been set up to auto-archive every 30 days. Since the page gets little traffic this seems counterproductive as its often useful to refer back to prior discussions. The user guide on auto-archiving says: "Make sure to establish consensus before setting up MiszaBot or ClueBot III on a talk page other than your user talk page." Was this discussed? I don't find any discussion of this in the archives (no joke intended). Any opinions on this?--KeithbobTalk 17:46, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

I've changed this to auto archive every 180 days. If anyone objects we can change it to whatever is the consensus here.--KeithbobTalk 01:08, 11 April 2012 (UTC)

'Maharishi Group' article

Maharishi Group (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

For less-that-obvious reasons, this article is apparently seen as relevant to WikiProject Transcendental Meditation. Frankly, it is a complete heap of horseshit, and undoubtedly merits deletion, in that it seems to be about a 'conglomerate' for which no sources that actually prove even existence appear to be cited - let alone the ridiculous claim (now removed) that it is some kind of 'non-profit benevolent society'. In the unlikely event that anyone from this Wikiproject actually knows of any reliable source that can actually tell us what sort of entity this 'group' is, or even confirms its existence as a group with a formal structure, rather than as a mixed bunch of entities with 'Maharishi' in their names, I suggest that they post the relevant third-party references on the article talk page, before it goes to AfD. AndyTheGrump (talk) 19:22, 29 September 2012 (UTC)

As an update to other concerned editors..........I've place a PROD tag on the article which could lead to deletion of the entire article. If anyone has concerns about the proposed deletion of the article, please visit the talk page and join the discussion there. Thanks--KeithbobTalk 14:03, 5 October 2012 (UTC)
Update: after AfD[1] the content was merged with the Transcendental Meditation movement article.--KeithbobTalk 14:38, 3 March 2013 (UTC)

TM template etc.

I've also made some changes to the TM template [2] over the months with the intention of making it more organized (alphabetization) and user friendly (shorter category descriptions). But please take a look at it and adjust it as you see fit. --KeithbobTalk 17:53, 3 March 2013 (UTC)

You've done a good job. Thanks for taking this project in hand. TimidGuy (talk) 14:53, 17 March 2013 (UTC)

Thoughts on managing the scope of the topic

Since it has come up a few times on talk pages. I wanted to open a thread to discuss the overall topic. Just as a starting point and a "note to myself" I'm listing some activities that I am, or have been, involved in regarding expansion and reduction of this broad topic area so we can begin to have an overview of what's going on and where we might be headed:

For Reference: Comments from the TM-Sidhi talk page

  • As I said my concern was about a general criticism leveled against the TM articles, that there are too many, and too many cases in which content was forked or split off. I think this is a legitimate criticism and want to make sure that if we do make this split it is necessary rather than possible. (olive (talk) 14:52, 7 September 2012 (UTC))
  • your concern is a valid one: there are an awful lot of TM-related articles and probably one more would not help things at all.--Luke Warmwater101 (talk) 16:47, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
  • There's a fair amount of content in this article on the ME which might point to a necessary split off of that content. I'm not adverse to the split, I just want to make sure its done for the right reasons given past criticism.(olive (talk) 17:00, 7 September 2012 (UTC))
  • WP:SummaryStyle which says: "A fuller treatment of any major subtopic should go in a separate article of its own." While I share Olive's concern that there are too many TM articles, some articles have large amounts of duplicate information 9particularly the TM movement, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and History of TM trilogy of articles. If we don't make this topic a stand alone topic will just end up with large amounts of duplicate info in both the TMT and TM-sidhi article. So in this instance I think a separate article may be in order. Keithbob • Talk • 19:01, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
  • My only concern is this: Are we sure Wikipedia needs yet another TM related article?--Luke Warmwater101 (talk) 08:02, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
  • I think that's a different question and this page is probably not the venue for that (larger) discussion. What we have before us is a situation where, IMO, the article is not compliant with WP guidelines: WP:SUMMARY and WP:UNDUE and WP:COATRACK. This situation would be eliminated by splitting the section into its own article. We are not creating more content, just organizing in a more WP compliant manner. That's how I see it.-- — Keithbob • Talk • 16:41, 13 September 2012 (UTC)
  • The number of TM articles is a related question to the proposed split and I think it bears thinking about. It is probably legitimate to split off content here but I'd like to follow that action up with a close look at other articles to see if we can delete some, or combine them into other articles.(olive (talk) 21:26, 13 September 2012 (UTC))
  • I think this is a good suggestion and a good compromise. Let's do both of these things.--Luke Warmwater101 (talk) 08:44, 15 September 2012 (UTC)
  • --KeithbobTalk 23:22, 4 October 2012 (UTC)

Discussion

As indicted in my comments above, I have a concern about there being a lot of duplicate info in the three articles called: Transcendental Meditation movement and History of Transcendental Meditation and Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. A certain amount of overlap is to be expected. However I think the history of TM is duplicated unnecessarily in these three articles. So this is one point for discussion. Are there other articles or concerns from other editors? --KeithbobTalk 03:46, 5 October 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for taking this initiative. It seems like the MERU, Holland article could be reduced to a couple sentences and merged into the Maharishi article. The Golden Domes article could be condensed into a paragraph or two and merged into the Maharishi University of Management article. Much of the Domes article is original research based on self-published sources such as the yearbook and the campus newsletter. TimidGuy (talk) 11:29, 5 October 2012 (UTC)
The sticky thing about MERU, Holland is that it is a physical campus and might be deserving of its own article even as a stub. However, if that is not a concern than the place to merge it would seem to me to be the TM and education article or the TM movement article. But right now the MERU article is quite long but pruning could be discussed on its talk page. --KeithbobTalk 14:38, 3 March 2013 (UTC)
Today I looked at all the sources on the MERU article and 60% of them don't even mention the topic. It appears to be a coatrack and depending on discussion and consensus it may need to be deleted or merged. Please join the discussion on the talk page here.--KeithbobTalk 20:35, 20 March 2013 (UTC)

Proposing deletion

I have suggested deletion on the talk pages of Maharishi Vedic Health Centre and Maharishi University of Management and Technology . Please join the discussion on the appropriate talk page, thanks.--KeithbobTalk 14:38, 3 March 2013 (UTC)

Please see the Open tasks list for a review of the status of several articles that need to be or are being reviewed for merger or deletion.--KeithbobTalk 21:55, 21 March 2013 (UTC)

Scope of Project

I have removed the Clint Eastwood and Paul McCartney BLP's from the project list as I do not see them as relevant to this project. If anyone disagrees I'm open to discussion and change.--KeithbobTalk 14:38, 3 March 2013 (UTC)

Today I removed John La Fave from the project list. --KeithbobTalk 20:20, 15 March 2013 (UTC) But I was reverted and now there is discussion. We'll see what the consensus is. --KeithbobTalk 02:48, 17 March 2013 (UTC)

Side discussion on scope

The scope is currently defined as:

  • All articles within template: Transcendental Meditation
  • All articles relating to Transcendental Meditation, the Transcendental Meditation technique, the Transcendental Meditation movement, and the History of Transcendental Meditation, broadly defined. This includes:
  • Techniques and programs
  • Organizations
  • Education
  • People
  • Settlements
  • Books and films

User: OrangeMike feels that every person on the List of TM prac should be included in the TM project see discussion here. If that is the case then we need to add TM project talk banners to about 150 BLPs that may not even mention that the subject learned TM. What do others think? --KeithbobTalk 16:51, 20 March 2013 (UTC)

I think individuals who learned TM, or are even advocates for TM but not primarily so, should not be added to any TM category. There is no need, as there is already a List article. Categories and banners are for major categorizations of articles, not minor ones. David Spector (talk) 17:46, 8 May 2013 (UTC)

John Hagelin

John Hagelin, an article that you or your project may be interested in, has been nominated for a community good article reassessment. If you are interested in the discussion, please participate by adding your comments to the reassessment page. If concerns are not addressed during the review period, the good article status will be removed from the article. AIRcorn (talk) 06:54, 11 April 2013 (UTC)

AFD

The following AFD is of interest to this project, and could use additional eyes as only two editors have !voted. Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/TM-Sidhi_program Gaijin42 (talk) 15:39, 5 November 2013 (UTC)

KHOE

I am for the second time proposing a merger of this article into the article of its owner Maharishi University of Management. Please give your input on the talk page here. Thank you.--KeithbobTalk 17:00, 9 November 2013 (UTC)

Ron Parker

I've just tagged Ron Parker for notability. His only possible claim for notability seems to be that he was an unsuccessful political candidate. The section that covers that is unsourced, despite the article's having been tagged for lack of sources for four and a half years. Spicemix (talk) 18:25, 11 November 2013 (UTC)

I've done some clean up on the article. Let's see what the community says at AfD.--KeithbobTalk 18:24, 1 December 2013 (UTC)

Open discussions

  1. Ron Parker--NLP candidate with no obvious notability. See AfD discussion here.
  2. Monty Guild -- PROD tagged in July 2013 but tag was removed. See talk page discussion
  3. Natural Law Party of Ontario and Natural Law Party of Quebec have been proposed for merger into Natural Law Party of Canada. See talk page.--KeithbobTalk 18:24, 1 December 2013 (UTC)

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:48, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

WikiProject X is live!

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

Harej (talk) 16:57, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

A new newsletter directory is out!

A new Newsletter directory has been created to replace the old, out-of-date one. If your WikiProject and its taskforces have newsletters (even inactive ones), or if you know of a missing newsletter (including from sister projects like WikiSpecies), please include it in the directory! The template can be a bit tricky, so if you need help, just post the newsletter on the template's talk page and someone will add it for you.

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:25, 27 October 2019 (UTC)
