Superhero team subgenre?

I thought there was a word for a story about a superhero team, that may relate specifically to one that pilots mecha that combine to form a larger mecha. I looked at the intros for Power Rangers, Super Sentai, and Voltron, but I didn't see anything more specific than "tokusatsu" given for the genre, at least in the intro. Maybe the word I'm looking for is actually "sentai"? B7T (talk) 15:15, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

To put it simply, there is no such term. "Sentai" is the Japanese word for a military unit and is not inherently related to a group of between 3 to 5 (possibly growing to 6 or 7) teenagers with attitude. The only link it has is the word's usage in the Super Sentai franchise. So you're SOL.—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 19:58, 24 January 2011 (UTC)
Hm, I thought I remembered reading about such a thing in a book about anime or Japanese pop culture. I'll try to find the reference, if indeed I didn't imagine it.... B7T (talk) 07:52, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
It's certainly not a "genre".—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 08:10, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

Put episodes of Kamen Rider and Super Sentai as TBA

As you all are aware of, there was an 8.9 earthquake in Japan. For the sake of not lying to people who rely on wiki to give them the 411, I recommend it be best that all future release dates for Japanese shows, manga, and anime be put as TBA (to be announced).

No. This is not the place to suggest this. If it doesn't air this week, we'll change the airdates.—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 18:54, 12 March 2011 (UTC)

Sentai Films

Is there a centralized list, etc. of all the various sentai films. The series articles have the applicable ones, and the ones with articles are present in Category:Super Sentai films, but is there one, master list? JPG-GR (talk) 04:18, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

I don't really think we ever made one up. Surely a list starting with Gaoranger's film through the 199 Hero one can easily be made up and put on Super Sentai.—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 18:21, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

"Goranger" vs. "Gorenger"

Should we move Himitsu Sentai Goranger to Himitsu Sentai Gorenger. I know "Goranger" is technically the correct form, but the bikes on the show used "Gorenger", as does the DVD covers, a few toys, a pachinko game and at least one databook I saw. Even Ishimori Pro's website uses "Gorenger". Jonny2x4 (talk) 20:21, 21 July 2011 (UTC)

The Gorenger/Goranger issue is an odd one. I would prefer that we use the technically correct form of "Goranger" because it is the more common translation in English, even though the English spelling "Gorenger" is appearing in the Japanese media.—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 20:56, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
At the very least we should use Himitsu Sentai Gorenger as a redirect. If you ask me, transliterating "Gorenjā" (ゴレンジャー) as "Gorenger" instead of "Goranger" makes a bit more sense than "Jakkā" (ジャッカー) as "J.A.K.Q." instead of "Jacker", or "Jūrenjā" (ジュウレンジャー) as "Zyuranger" instead of "Juranger". Jonny2x4 (talk) 18:49, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
The redirect is fine. Also "J.A.K.Q." and "Zyuranger" are at least common and official tranliterations. "Gorenger", while being official, is not common due to the known intended spelling used in later media.—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 19:41, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
I'm still tempted to move it to "Himitsu Sentai Gorenger", since I'm seeing "Gorenger" used more consistently everyday, such as in this Super Sentai song collection and this "Akarenger" figure. Jonny2x4 (talk) 01:32, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
Ack, no. There is no consensus to make this change. Before you move the page, again, start up a discussion. Also, that's not the "Akarenger" figure. That appears to be a Gokai Silver figure. Also, Columbia's international releases of the Sentai theme collections also use various non-official names that they had used in the past, such as "Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger" and "Kyuukyuu Sentai GoGoFive".—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 02:11, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
For some reason the thumbnails don't show up when you click on the link, so here's a direct link to the image. Either way, I've seen "Gorenger" used enough times to convince me to move the page. Heck, it's even used on the show itself. Jonny2x4 (talk) 04:12, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
