WP 1.0 bot announcement

This message is being sent to each WikiProject that participates in the WP 1.0 assessment system. On Saturday, January 23, 2010, the WP 1.0 bot will be upgraded. Your project does not need to take any action, but the appearance of your project's summary table will change. The upgrade will make many new, optional features available to all WikiProjects. Additional information is available at the WP 1.0 project homepage. — Carl (CBM · talk) 03:58, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

Request for comment on Biographies of living people

Hello Wikiproject! Currently there is a discussion which will decide whether wikipedia will delete 49,000 articles about a living person without references, here:

Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Biographies of living people

Since biographies of living people covers so many topics, many wikiproject topics will be effected.

The two opposing positions which have the most support is:

  1. supports the deletion of unreferenced articles about a living person, User:Jehochman
  2. opposes the deletion of unreferenced articles about a living person, except in limited circumstances, User:Collect

Comments are welcome. Keep in mind that by default, editor's comments are hidden. Simply press edit next to the section to add your comment.

Please keep in mind that at this point, it seems that editors support deleting unreferenced BLP articles if they are not sourced, so your project may want to source these articles as soon as possible. See the next, message, which may help.

Spirituality articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release

Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the Spirituality articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.

We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

Walk ins -- how do I make a contribution to this Page knowledge?

My name is Steven Ward and I publish work under the pseudonyms strongangelstar (video, music, song) and Adventer (scripture). I also wrote a screenplay in 1999 under my name. I live in Hastings, in the UK, which is known to possess a powerful magnetic field, equivalent to the Sargasso Sea region Lyall Watson suggested.

I was investigating comet HALE BOPP, facts about it, when I came across the subject of the Heavens Gate sect (1997), and then the topic of “walk ins”. The latter was of interest to me because I had just such an experience in 1995, and indeed went onto write a Film Script about that event and did twice attempt to sell it as a screen play in Los Angeles. I had an arrangement to return there a third time, to keep a verbal arrangement to meet a Director/Producer, Peter Segal, however I was attacked and left for dead - hours after leaving images of what I saw at 10 Downing St - on the streets of my hometown before I could make those arrangements (April 1999) and broken could not return.

I cannot speak for any other individual or group, which is why I never goet involved in any, or did not take too much notice of the Heavens Gate cult as they were then reported. However at the time, e.g. the late 1990’s I was in my own mind very aware that Hale-Bopp was no mere comet but was something far more important in the Universal system of things. I knew then, and wholly believe now Hale-Bopp did come to collect Souls and also to leave here other 'Strong Souls' to assist a transformation about to occur upon the Earth plane. To put it simply their task was to assist the Souls not able to escape the Earth plane in this momentous time to survive the imminent transformations - within a a generation - due to occur.

To be quite honest with you I felt I was alone in what I had experienced; else had deep suspicions about the authenticity of some of the reports of “walk ins” as I now know them to be called. But that is not to say other people are not explaining what they know correctly. To begin with none of there experiences seemed to be as informed as my own; and although the experience I had was profound and has altered my thinking permanently I suspected my inner willing to rationalise them with religion, as others have, was the result of a life time of conditioning rather than insightful. That being said, without detailing them here, I have, and do, and am able to produce prophetic and at times proactively influential results when I focus upon events I am somehow drawn to.

Anyhow, I write this because I would like to contribute something meaningful to the “walk ins” section of wikipedia. In my case I was the central one of a v-wing i.e. a flight in the pattern of a >, consisting of seven souls who came into the Earth plane... for want of a better way of putting it. An image which better describes this is viewable on Flickr (link via youtube; see below). I was the foremost and central individual in the wing (yes my own Soul or the one that came to me?)and in a very short telepathic communication I was advised "don't worry, you are on a mission". To this day what or why this mission is I do not know. All I know is what I am honestly setting down here in this text.

I can explain to you that a Soul is an Orb, dressed with light. The pattern of the raiment is realised on the human skin (each human unique), and that each Soul has the facial features of its owner, which are inward, as like a wall socket, and delineated as like a caricature. In fact to look upon the geometry of the human face is to look upon what is a truly beautiful drawing; each souls face is unique to each individual, just as human and all faces of creatures great and small are. I would describe the facial features – all - as the geometry of God, and therefore of Life. I am also able to say the state of the Soul is the state of universal peace and knowledge and Life connection; that being contrary to the state of the “living soul”.

I too affirm that the Soul is a dark object and that within a Man it is at the core of the body; the sprite in reformation terms? The Soul is the very space within, which achieves body existence by reacting with the energy of Carbon 12, which energy is describable as Spirit; that the Soul is introduced by the Father at conception and that the Spirit is activated by the Mother at the same time as (delivered up with the first carbon particles constituent to the egg). Spirit exists in the skeleton and where the Soul resides, i.e. within the ribcage, those bones are the begirding "pile" of the reaction spoke of; sustaining the reaction during each individual’s entire living soul existence. Is this why Adamic Man - new man - was formed from a rib?

I urge you to check out my work on http://www.youtube.com/strongangelstar and follow the links there elsewhere (Adventer for example). I also give you my word I am not hoaxing you or attempting in any way top make commercial gains or similar. I am simply attempting to help wikipedia give an accurate 360-degree account of the walk in experience.

Please let me know if and how I can make a contribution … Thank You. Strongangelstar (talk) 21:31, 12 June 2012 (UTC)

Proposed MOS for Religion

There is now a proposed general Manual of Style for Religion and other articles relating to ethoses or belief systems at Wikipedia:WikiProject Religion/Manual of style. Any input would be welcome. I personally believe at least one of the reasons why many articles in this field have been as contentious as they have been is because of lack of such guidelines, and would very much welcome any input from others to help come up with some generally acceptable solutions to some of these problems. John Carter (talk) 22:05, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

Negative theology

This is what the article says:

"What we can safely say is that it cannot be proven empirically or otherwise that God is existent, therefore God is not non-existent."

This is a contradictory statement. Let me simplify it:

"It cannot be proven by any means that God is existent. Therefore, God exists."

This is exactly what the article says, and it makes absolutely no sense.

A few sentences later, another absurdity pops up: "However we can safely say that God is not ignorant."

Um, no we can't. There is nothing in the article that backs this up. Someone went on a speculative, personal rant about what they think God is, and this is not based in reason at all. This is not the kind of thing that belongs on Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.180.146.228 (talk) 21:03, 8 November 2012 (UTC)

Discussion at RSN about Robert Almeder

There is a discussion at the reliable sources noticeboard about whether an article on reincarnation by Robert Almeder, professor emeritus of philosophy at Georgia State University, is a reliable source for the article on Ian Stevenson (1918–2007). Several editors have objected to it because Almeder published it in Journal of Scientific Exploration, a journal that deals with anomalies (fringe issues). Uninvolved input would be very helpful. See Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Noticeboard#Robert_Almeder. Many thanks, SlimVirgin (talk) 19:20, 18 November 2012 (UTC)

Article for inclusion

Hi there - I've been working on Process-oriented psychology and another editor suggested it might be of interest to this project. I agree, so wondering if someone here can check it out, or if I should boldly go ahead and add it? - the article is about a depth/transpersonal psychology - growing out of Jungian thought and definitely moving into modern alternative spirituality stuff - one source describes it as 'modern eclectic shamanism'. To reach spiritual heights

Now,every religion we see is indulge in rites and worldly practises in which our spirit is not at all involved. So the work in which our spirit is not involved is not what the actual master of each religion has taught.when the Master of religion leave his wordly body than the religion go to the path of misunderstanding of the actual thing Masters have taught. Now,about spirit and mind we have lot of confusions.so in order to achieve spiritual heights we must hyave knowlegde About it.spirit is only thing which is immortal.even mind is mortal. In this plane(phYsical world)mind has dominated our Soul(spirit).and mind is also dominated by our senses(10 in number:-2eYes,2nostrils,2ears,1tongue,external genitale). Mind is also dominated by 5 satans(sexual pleasures, anger, greed, love for our relatives, over proud).so ythede all Things are controlling mind. Spirit is sleeping a sleep of no knowlegde. and knowledge to awake spirit cannot be found In any svcripture or holy book but we get it when we have a true living master and he advice us to meditate by not leaving Ones home or wordly work but performing it and meditating on god. When we meditate on true guru's( master's)opinion then onlY We can achieve hieghts of spirituality and we get knownledge of our self (from where we came and where we should have to go). So without living true master it is waste of time to meditate. Now what is the defination of true living master and how we can fin him:- See the person is not in a position to define such a living being. We cannot distinguish normal person from True master becoz they also do worldly things like ourself and they also have body like our self. So we have No power to find satguru(true living master). But when we confront him and see him we will get satisfication We will get some peace from seeing his face.this is only our poweer to find him.also if one have keen desire To get rid of this worldlY things then that living master will shower his blessings and will give his identity.

So finally nothing is in the hand of person. It is only with god's grace and our karmas of previous lifes will get Us to true living master. Also one who gets true living master is most destined person becoz richness is not the one which make onself very destined But one who gets true living master is most u can say luckiest person becoz he saves us from the sin of lifes and deaths And make ouself one with god(supreme being) through the meditation and his blessings — Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.253.215.41 (talk) 06:57, 2 April 2014 (UTC)

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:48, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

WikiProject X is live!

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

New spirituality redirect pages created, please edit as necessary

I've been correcting the redlinks in the some of the Category:Catholic spirituality pages, and I created several redirect pages that link to appropriate sections of Catholic spirituality: Benedictine spirituality, Dominican spirituality, Franciscan spirituality and Carmelite spirituality. If any of these topics have a better redirect target, please change them accordingly. Thanks, Aristophanes68 (talk) 20:30, 7 May 2011 (UTC)

I'm redirecting these to their main articles: Benedictines, Dominican Order, Franciscans, Carmelites. The Franciscan redirect in particular was getting in the way of an RM. Jujutsuan (Please notify with {{re}} talk | contribs) 15:36, 5 July 2016 (UTC)

WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject

The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.

Portals are being redesigned.

The new design features are being applied to existing portals.

At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.

The discussion about this can be found here.

Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.

Background

On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.

There's an article in the current edition of the Signpost interviewing project members about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.

Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.

So far, 84 editors have joined.

If you would like to keep abreast of what is happening with portals, see the newsletter archive.

If you have any questions about what is happening with portals or the Portals WikiProject, please post them on the WikiProject's talk page.

Thank you.    — The Transhumanist   07:56, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

A new newsletter directory is out!

A new Newsletter directory has been created to replace the old, out-of-date one. If your WikiProject and its taskforces have newsletters (even inactive ones), or if you know of a missing newsletter (including from sister projects like WikiSpecies), please include it in the directory! The template can be a bit tricky, so if you need help, just post the newsletter on the template's talk page and someone will add it for you.

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)

birth certificate

I am looking for someone who can point me to information to see who my birth parents were. I am 74 years old and have never had a birth certificate. I have followed all of the normal paths to obtain one but the last name that I am using will not give me one. I don't know the last name on my birth. What can I do? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rfbyerley (talkcontribs) 23:38, 29 October 2019 (UTC)

Project-independent quality assessments

Quality assessments by Wikipedia editors rate articles in terms of completeness, organization, prose quality, sourcing, etc. Most wikiprojects follow the general guidelines at Wikipedia:Content assessment, but some have specialized assessment guidelines. A recent Village pump proposal was approved and has been implemented to add a |class= parameter to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, which can display a general quality assessment for an article, and to let project banner templates "inherit" this assessment.

No action is required if your wikiproject follows the standard assessment approach. Over time, quality assessments will be migrated up to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, and your project banner will automatically "inherit" any changes to the general assessments for the purpose of assigning categories.

However, if your project has decided to "opt out" and follow a non-standard quality assessment approach, all you have to do is modify your wikiproject banner template to pass {{WPBannerMeta}} a new |QUALITY_CRITERIA=custom parameter. If this is done, changes to the general quality assessment will be ignored, and your project-level assessment will be displayed and used to create categories, as at present.
