Currently, using the plumbob as the symbol of the project could be seen as violating copyright. The image was uploaded for The Sims Portal, and has already been deleted from their banner. [1]. I might have a go at designing a logo, however I would want to see what you guys think. --Martin23230 (talk) 13:27, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

I see your point and I think you're right. If you could really make a new logo for the userbox then that would be great. Jammy (talk) 17:58, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
What about this? It is made in the same idea as the Poxemon one, as it is a simple shape ineligable for copyright, with the big Wikipedia W. Martin23230 (talk) 16:03, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
Really well done, I like it Jammy (talk) 17:26, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
Could someone incorperate that logo into the barnstar image? No offence but the current barnstar image is......Joelster (talk) 22:19, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Hey

Hi I've just joined the project and just thought I'd say that I'm happy to help in any way I can. I was previously involved in the production of the U2 WikiProject Newsletter (my personal favourite issue). I also started up the Seinfeld WikiProject, which is coming along nicely with a group of dedicated editors. So, yeah, happy to help. Joelster (talk) 00:22, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

The The Sims project banner page could use some work. It doesn't tell how to use the quality and importance parameters for the template. — Frecklefσσt | Talk 12:23, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Scope

An important issue that needs consensus. How deep does our reach go, e.g. do we stick with the list at Wikipedia:WikiProject Sims#Articles, with Sims 1,2&3 along with expansions, or do we include other Sim games, such as SimCity and even Spore? WikiProject:Sims could go either way. This will need sorting out before we continue. Martin23230 (talk) 18:13, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

I was kinda under the impression that this was the The Sims WikiProject and it'd just focus on The Sims and all its descendants and spin-offs. I think covering other Sim games would just dilute the focus. Maybe we should change the name of the project (to WikiProject The Sims)? — Frecklefσσt | Talk 18:26, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
I think it should remain as only on the series of The Sims, a WikiProject Maxis could cover all the other Sims games but I'd like to stay dedicated to only The Sims series. Jammy (talk) 18:39, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
Fine with me Martin23230 (talk) 18:45, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

I don't think so, Sims 2 came out only 4 years after the Sims, but it'll of been 5 years since Sims 2 has been released when Sims 3 is released. Jammy (talk)

Sims 2 Apartment life

About the new Sims 2 expansion pack.

I think its to small of a game base. It sould of been included in Nightlife. Save The HumansTalk :)
Not much of a expansion pack to leave the series with, but it'll be interesting all the same. Hopefully it'll have more features than the console game The Urbz as that was pretty boring. Jammy (talk)
What would be the new monster? "AHHH the Landlord!!" Save The HumansTalk :) 23:05, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Barnstar

The barnstar could do with a good revamp. It's basically just a template saying this user has done good contributions. You could bascially award it to yourself. There's also quite a few grammar errors. And as someone has stated before, the image just puts the barnstar off as it's very pixelated, imaginative but too pixelated. Sorry as you know im realy bad with wikiproject stuff. Save The HumansTalk :) 22:49, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
Well no I didn't know that actually, you did really well with making the project, it's just the barnstar that bothers me. Jammy (talk) 22:52, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Brilliant, you have a good talent for graphics, you deserve the award yourself for making it so good. Jammy (talk) 16:02, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Userbox

Would it be possible to change the colour of the userbox text to a darker green? It's just that (on my browser) it seems a little hard to see. Perhaps the background could be changed to a different colour so we could keep the light green. I'd do it myself but I wanted to see what others think. Joelster (talk) 23:33, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

That's strange 'cause I'm on IE too and to me, at least, the one with the blue background is easier to see that the one with the white. Maybe it's just my eyes ;) Is this one any better? Joelster (talk) 00:37, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Articles to create

What is everybody's opinion on the following articles I might create:

I could come up with other ideas for articles that could be created. Should we start a list on project page for articles that need to be created? --Uga Man (talk) UGA MAN FOR PRESIDENT 2008 02:32, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

I think it's a good idea, but if my recent experiences hve been anything to go by, I am 80% sure that they would be nominated for deletion as non-notable fancruft. Joelster (talk) 04:07, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

PC bias

Now, I realize that The Sims is a PC game first and console game second, but I think that the articles should have a more expanded coverage, especially since many console versions use different engines and different scenarios. Also, The Sims (console game) is not very big, and the PC game article isn't even big enough to state how many KBs it uses. Merging them wouldn't increase the size too much. - A Link to the Past (talk) 22:44, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

Regarding the merge, I would be against it. Do we really want The Sims article to be big enough to state how many KBs it is? Besides, the console version is practically a different game anyway. Joelster (talk) 23:03, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
When you think about it, despite the fact that many handheld versions of console games have different engines, they're still in the same article (such exceptions include Rayman 3, Rayman Raving Rabbids, and Over the Hedge for the DS). Showing the KB count does not mean that it's too big. It just indicates that it's "getting there". It would not reach the point of "over" the KB count. Looking at recent events, many games have been merged together - the Zelda GBC games, Oracle of Ages and Seasons, the ALttP remake for the GBA, etc. Being a different game doesn't necessarily mean you need an article of your own. Before the Oracle games were merged, they had no chance of being featured. However, once merged, they passed the FAC quite easily. Without extra content to them, they may be too small to warrant featuring.
I would strongly suggest, as well, merging the Expansion pack articles into either The Sims, or an article detailing The Sims expansions. As it stands, they are several small articles, but if merged, could serve the main article or a new, longer article. - A Link to the Past (talk) 23:13, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
Well, I did two user page articles - one with only the console game merged, and the other with the console game and expansions merged. Even with all that content, the article does not exceed the suggested kb limit. If you wish to view them, here they are: User:A Link to the Past/The Sims test (2), User:A Link to the Past/The Sims test (they are pretty unpolished, true, but it was simply a quick example). - A Link to the Past (talk) 23:35, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
Wow good work. I must say I like the original one better (User:A Link to the Past/The Sims test) - I personally think that having all of the EP's in the one article makes it just a little long. But both look good, and I must say I'm in favor of the merge now :) Joelster (talk) 23:48, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
Well, I'll be toying with the Expansions section, trying to get it down some. If I can't reduce it by a significant margin, I'll either not merge or merge it to an article about The Sims expansions. But thanks for the input on merging in general. - A Link to the Past (talk) 23:51, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
Well, I made some cuts in test (2), how does it look now? - A Link to the Past (talk) 20:50, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

A suggestion...

I'm really glad someone did this. I was considering creating something like this myself, but I didn't have the time. However I hav a suggestion, and that is to make the project cover all articles based around the Sim series of games (The Sims, SimCity, SimAnt even! ect.) as I think that is a large enough scope for the project to work on, and because they are all somewhat connected. Obviously The Sims series is going to be a focal point of the project, but I believe the project should expand to encompass all of the games in Will Wright mega-series. .:Alex:. 18:01, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

I did sort of bring this up above, and it seems a consensus was reached to stay with The Sims Series (1, 2, 3 and x-packs). However, even with that topics such as MySims and The Sims Stories saw fit for inclusion. I don't see why, with all of the new people joining, we couldn't branch out, but it is up for debate again. --Martin23230 (talk) 18:54, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
Well, I think the problem is that many people who play The Sims (and therefore participate in this WikiProject) don't play the other Sim- games, and so aren't interested in helping out with them. The Sims by itself can stand alone. There isn't any reason why another WikiProject (WikiProject:Maxis) couldn't be started to cover the other Sim- games. — Frecklefσσt | Talk 13:14, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
Well I'd prefer it being only on The Sims series as it's something I'm very experienced in. I don't play the Sims Stories, or much of the SimCity games and I certainly don't play MySims as I wouldn't be caught dead with anything Nintendo! If it stays as The Sims then pretty much everyone knows what's true and what isn't as most people play that. Jammy (talk) 15:01, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
He has a point. Mabye a Taskforce should be made Maybee "Wikiproject Sims/Console game taskforce" Save The HumansTalk :) 00:17, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
FWIW (@Jammy), The Sims Stories is just The Sims 2 with fewer objects and a storyline that you may play, but don't have to. In the "Free Play" mode, it is just like The Sims 2 (but it doesn't seem to have as much content as the full game or the ability to augment it via downloads). — Frecklefσσt | Talk 15:55, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
I have added the sims stories the the scope. Save The HumansTalk :) 21:40, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
