Automation of task force tagging under WP banner edit

Kia ora, I noticed that it's noted that WP:NZP used some form of automation for tagging under the WP banner in 2010, I'm wondering if there is anyone who would be able to provide some insight into the possibility of that for this project, and if so how it could be done? Much appreciated. Some categories to note would be Category:Statutes of New Zealand, Category:Supreme Court of New Zealand cases, Category:Court of Appeal of New Zealand cases and Category:High Court of New Zealand cases. I vaguely remember it was done by a bot running on all articles in categories related to New Zealand. We did end up with some inappropriate tags (e.g. if I recall correctly, World War II was tagged for WPNZ) because the category system is not as clean as it could be. You can request a bot be run on the four categories above at WP:Bot requests. These categories look pretty clean to me, but I suggest you check out their subcategories and perhaps request that the bot not recurse into subcategories. Any bot would not be able to assign law-importance.-gadfium 04:59, 4 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Alright, thank you gadfium. I've had a look at their subcategories and they're alright. The UK one seemed concerning at first glance but it's just past NZ constitution acts, so I'll just go ahead chuck a request there. I suspect that for law-importance that'll be something that'll just be gone through manually over time as needed. Carolina2k22(talk)(edits) 07:48, 4 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Yes, that is how it was done. If I remember correctly, it was StuartYeates who organised it all. I’m sure we’ll find a few articles that aren’t tagged for WPNZ, so that’s a bonus. Schwede66 18:31, 4 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Awesome! Carolina2k22(talk)(edits) 00:49, 5 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

This has been complete. Will over the next few weeks manually sift through the articles to assign importance. Carolina2k22(talk)(edits) 15:09, 13 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Edmund Halswell hasn’t been tagged. Rather than tag him myself, I thought I’d let you investigate which part of the category tree has been missed. Schwede66 21:58, 13 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Lists of statutes of New Zealand edit

From the initial archived discussion, the consensus was that the article should be renamed to Lists of Acts of the New Zealand Parliament and its subsidiaries should be split from the existing per-government lists to per-parliament lists (i.e., List of Acts of the 53rd New Zealand Parliament).

I am going to look into beginning this over the next couple days, if anyone is able to help out that would be much appreciated. I will either start from the first parliament or go backwards from the latest. Carolina2k22(talk)(edits) 06:45, 5 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Later on, we might also need to look towards moving everything within Category:Statutes of New Zealand to Category:Acts of the New Zealand Parliament. Carolina2k22(talk)(edits) 07:01, 5 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Created Draft:Lists of Acts of the New Zealand Parliament and corresponding template edits (Template:New Zealand legislation lists/sandbox) for when ready. Carolina2k22(talk)(edits) 08:54, 5 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
For the red linking, I've created a simple python script that allows you to put the table in, and it shoots it back out with redlinks added. This will save time in future having to go around different pages and link them when new pages are created, as well as incentivise others (and help us) create pages for acts, which will all in turn improve coverage over time. (see [1] if you want to use it) Carolina2k22(talk)(edits) 05:46, 6 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Importance edit

Here are some links that might help evaluate importance; daily page views for the last year:

Obviously there is more to the importance of an article than merely how often it is viewed, but it gives a jumping point that at least to work from. Based on skimming those lists I would consider lowering Governor-General Act 2010 down from high (just because an act is constitutional doesn’t make it “important” for the purposes of the encyclopaedia), and raising Peter Ellis (childcare worker) up from low. — HTGS (talk) 23:47, 14 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Kia ora, I've gone through and updated those now. Thank you for mentioning this! Carolina2k22(talk)(edits) 03:58, 24 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

New draft article Draft:Natives Lands Act 1865 edit

I have created this draft. Draft:Natives Lands Act 1865 There are some parts I am not sure how to proceed - the infobox - is the talk page what you have specified? The framing of the legislation process etc. These all need more work. Plus more research and sources to expand the content. Maybe there are some others in this taskforce that may be interested in this article. Based on the existing high pageview articles I suspect this article should be high importance? Looks great to me. I'd be happy to make it live as-is. 22:03, 5 February 2023 (UTC)
