Rather Haphazard approach edit

I think you should look over some of the pages you've thrown under this project. For instance, Ronald Reagan and Anarcho-capitalism don't seem to have anything to do with Liberalism. Soxwon (talk) 19:48, 2 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, i'll fix that... was a bit stressed yesterday, but i'll fix it. --TIAYN (talk) 07:10, 3 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
For example, what happened with WIkiproject libertarianism. Without asking anyone's opinion, there's a notice you moved it. Reverted by someone else. Please do NOT move it without getting others opinions! CarolMooreDC (talk) 19:22, 5 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
Kinda hard to "opine" without a more specific statement of what the issue is, preferably with link. She moved the whole other project? From where to where? | GeofferyBard(talk)

I am very puzzled by the wikipedia entries on Liberalism. I first looked up neoliberalism and could find nothing that seemed to me to be a clear definition. So I decided to start with Liberalism. But there is so much churning and argumentation on all these Liberalism entries that I am more confused than ever. I don't want to be simplistic, but as an average reader with interest in politics but no great knowledge, I look to an encyclopedia as a place to get a reasonably clear and consistent definition, at least, of terms; and clear demarcations of discussions that may be turning partisan. On the main page of the Liberalism portal, I read these two passages, with, as far as I can see, no attempt to reconcile or relate them: "Liberalism (from the Latin liberalis, 'of freedom') is the belief in the importance of liberty and equal rights." - and, from Ann Coulter - "Liberalism is part of a religious disorder that demands a belief that life is controllable." Now how belief in "liberty" and belief in life as "controllable" can be reconciled, I cannot say. Even if you accept Coulter's argument, what logical links can be made so that we understand her to be using the word "Liberalism" in its usual sense? I think the writers of the article owe it to the average reader to expand on such apparent contradictions so that we know what's going on. Otherwise it is just a brawl. Interesting I suppose. But not the function of an encyclopedia to present. VanArtGuy (talk) 19:29, 5 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Ann Coulter is not the kind of commentator who belongs in the top portion of any wikipedia article on liberalism or related topics. At best, she would go way down in subordinate sections purporting to represent criticisms of something or other. And, really, she is not a serious critic, so it would be a rare article within the scope of liberalism that her comments would be taken seriously. BTW, re POV, I am on Conservativism Project and do take serious conservative writers seriously, but she is not one of them. Disregard the edits, or delete them, as may be appropriate and move on to something serious. Words do matter, as a great conservative once wrote.| GeofferyBard(talk) —Preceding undated comment added 23:01, 28 April 2011 (UTC). Reply

Liberalism articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release edit

Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the Liberalism articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.

We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

Proposed deletion of Liberalism and radicalism in Argentina edit

The article Liberalism and radicalism in Argentina has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unreferenced essay, fails WP:NOTESSAY, WP:N and WP:V

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Jeepday (talk) 11:49, 11 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Why is Ronald Reagan listed in the featured articles? edit

It's my understanding that he hated liberalism. -- I'ḏOne 17:11, 21 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

? Delete. I don't know that he actually hated anyone. There were many conservatives who advocated working with liberals, and, if Reagan was not one of them, I don't know that he "hated" anyone. At any rate that does not justify listing him anymore than John Kenneth Galbreath would be listed in the Conservative Project. | GeofferyBard(talk) —Preceding undated comment added 22:53, 28 April 2011 (UTC). Italian Liberal party edit

Hi,

the usage of Italian Liberal Party, Italian Liberal Party (historical), and Italian Liberal Party (current) is up for discussion here. --Juanm (talk) 17:53, 3 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Browsebar edit

Just stumbled upon this project, which is a nice idea. But the {politics browsebar} just under the header on the portal page is screwy: Fascism is included, but Conservatism is strangely missing. And Canadian Politics doesn't belong at all, maybe Environmentalism too: that's mixing apples and oranges here. I don't see an easy way to change the browsebar or I would have done so already, just thought I'd call it to someone's attention here. Textorus (talk) 05:09, 10 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Political views of the academia edit

There is a dispute regarding if the Academia article should include a section regarding the political views of the academia and conservative criticisms on this issue. The disputed text is currently removed but can be seen here: User:Miradre/sandbox. The issue is further discussed on Talk:Academia. Please give further views on this issue. Inactive WikiProject edit

This WikiProject has been tagged as inactive, I'm willing to help with the project if others are also willing. I do feel that the layout the page needs a major overhaul, it is much more complicated then other projects and it's hard to know what needs to be done to help the project. So are there others willing to help out or is this just a lost project? Newfoundlander&Labradorian (talk) 14:54, 5 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

WikiProject Politics edit

There is a new WikiProject whose aim is to provide Wikipedia resources and a common discussion for political culture articles. This includes Anarchism, Corporatism, Oligarchy, Liberalism, Socialism and Fascism. Since this Liberalism project appears to be semi-active, this could help revitalize the discussion, and expand the pool of possible editors. Greg Bard (talk) 18:38, 8 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
