Wikipedia talk:WikiProject India/Assessment/Tag & Assess 2021

Scripts edit

@AshLin, you might want to look at User:Evad37/rater. Also, in the distant past, there were some bots that would auto-tag articles in designated categories. Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Guide may have some information about the bots.

There are thousands of articles in Category:Unassessed India articles, and ORES is sufficiently reliable with identifying stubs that you might be able to get those assessed by bot. (I wouldn't recommend automated importance levels.) WhatamIdoing (talk) 16:16, 29 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi @WhatamIdoing:, thanks for your message. :) Icymi, we have already mentioned rater.js here and in the drive announcement on WT:INB. Thanks for telling me about WP:PROJGUIDE which I hadn't known about. For this drive, I would prefer not to bring in "automated stub judgement" as I have experience and faith in human-based assessment and dont want to tinker when a drive is starting within 48 hours. We could consider it after the drive. Ashwin Baindur (User:AshLin) (talk) 04:36, 30 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
I've spent enough time with ORES ratings to be confident with its stub assessments (and most articles are stubs). That is, when ORES says that an article is a stub, I agree with it.
I think it is usually correct for Start-class and C-class, but sometimes I think it is a little generous. Specifically, it seems to over-rate articles that contain lots of citations and long lists. In that case, if it says Start, I sometimes think it's a stub, or if it says C-class, I sometimes think that it's better classified as a Start. I have never encountered a situation in which ORES disagrees with me by two classes (e.g., ORES says B-class and I think the article is Start-class, or I say it's C-class and ORES says that it's a stub).
I prefer human judgement for priority/importance ratings. A tool could calculate the overall popularity or centrality of an article, but a tool cannot tell how important the page is to a particular group of people. WhatamIdoing (talk) 04:55, 30 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Noted the points that you made. However, for the reason stated, I would not like to get involved with ORES right now. Ashwin Baindur (User:AshLin) (talk) 05:06, 30 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Individual tallies table edit

@AshLin, In the table of Individual tallies what does top edits and tackling mean? Venkat TL (talk) 09:29, 12 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Venkat TL:, it used to mean maximum edits done in a day & tackling meant which categories a person was dealing with, however these are irrelevant in this drive and I have removed them. Thanks for pointing out:) Ashwin Baindur (User:AshLin) (talk) 10:56, 12 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
@AshLin thanks. In that case, the running total seems to be the total number of articles a person has assessed. If so, it is better to use the header Articles assessed, instead of Running Total. I was confused and thought Running total means total edits by a user. Venkat TL (talk) 11:02, 12 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Venkat TL:, Good idea. Implementing it right away. Ashwin Baindur (User:AshLin) (talk) 11:39, 12 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, I have updated my total.--Venkat TL (talk) 11:43, 12 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi...it will be useful if we can use some bot for tagging purpose. One more thing: we have to also create Wikiproject Ladakh as Ladakh is now separate union territory...Soumitrahazra

@Soumitrahazra: Wikipedia:WikiProject Ladakh exists. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 02:54, 15 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
