Stagecoach trail and Santa Susana Pass park

(Copied in from the project Talk page) Santa Susana Pass State Historic Park: I think we might consider combining Santa Susana Pass State Historic Park and Old Stagecoach Trail, which is in the park. I agree with the idea for a merger, probably. Which should be merged into what? Santa Susana Pass State Historic Park seems more specific, while Old Stagecoach Trail seems overly vague as an article name. I'm not sure about the merger, though I have an open mind on it. Does the Santa Susanna Pass Park also include the following additional LAHCMs: Stoney Point Outcroppings and Minnie Hall Palmer House? Cbl62 (talk) 00:58, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

Perhaps we need to agree on whether historic sites and the historic parks in which they are located should have separate articles or not? See Rancho Los Encinos and Los Encinos State Historic Park, which have overlapping info in them. I am open to suggestions.

I got a picture of the Old Stagecoach Trail. It's not great and hope to get a better one next time I go out. "Old Stagecoach Trail" is the name of the modern hiking trail (most of the info in the article comes from a hiking trails site). "Old Santa Susana Stage Road" is the historic site and should probably be the name of the article. Since that now is a redirect, I'll have to ask an admin to fix it. I'll do some more work on this and on Santa Susana Pass State Historic Park as time permits.

I am now inclined to have separate articles on historic sites and the parks they sit in. - PKM (talk)

It's always a judgment call, whether to have separate articles or not. FWIW, you don't need an administrator in order to edit the "Old Santa Susana Stage Road" article. Currently, yes, that is a redirect, so if you click on this link: Old Santa Susana Stage Road or if you searched on "Old Santa Susana Stage Road" you would get brought to the redirect target page. However, at top where it shows, in small font, "(Redirected from Old Santa Susana Stage Road)", you can click and go back to the redirect page. Santa Susana SHP images

I am torn as to which version of my park map to use in the article.

• Version with current USGS aerial photo underlayer
• Version with (not very current) topo map underlayer

Hm. I liked the topo map better until I saw that the aerial one is more current (showing houses), tough decision... Alternatively, I have topo software for all of California; I could take a screen shot of the same area's current topo map (showing more streets, etc.) if you would like, and email you that file so you could overlay the park's boundaries. As far as I know, that is the most recent topo for this area (we have Topo software, though yours may be more current). Let me know? I really prefer the map too, but as it stands you could never figure out how to actually get to the main entrance because the roads are missing. Thanks. - PKM (talk) 23:52, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

California infoboxes

The template:infobox local1 infobox is used in some LAHCM and other articles. I've been wondering if prolific LAHCM-writer cbl62 preferred not to use it, but i see cbl put it into the Stoney Point (California) article in this edit. The local1 infobox is a bit kludgy, perhaps, though, programming wise, being my fork off of an earlier nrhp infobox, and is not well documented like the current nrhp infobox is. I'd like to be able to just identify the type of historic site it is, once, like saying it is type=LAHCM or type=CHisL, and then for any color theme and other elements in a given California register to be all set. Cbl62, do you have any wishes to use infoboxes in Long Beach or elsewhere, and if so would you like any changes/new features? I am hopeful that User:dudemanfellabra would consent to upgrade the programming for this. doncram (talk) 02:16, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

It should be a seamless thing, to show as a Task force there and here, and for tagging to cover for both wikiprojects. Big map of California historic sites

There are coordinates of NRHP-listed sites in the county list-articles under List of RHPs in CA, and you can see all of the locations for any one county by clicking on the Google map link. I wonder about putting all the NRHP ones, and all California Historical Landmarks, and all others, into one big list of coordinates of Cal historic sites. It may be unwieldy and may not be mainspace-eligible. But even if that is just set up in wikipedia space, we could use it ourselves to check where historic sites are, when we might be passing through different areas.

For the NRHP ones, there might be some way to get a list of NRHP-provided coordinates generated centrally. Unfortunately that would not take into account any corrections to NRIS's sometimes bad coordinates that editors have already put into the NRHP county list articles, but it would be a pretty good start. Hmm, maybe a bot could get the most recent ones from the NRHP list-articles. Century Plaza Hotel

The Century Plaza Hotel in the Century City area of Los Angeles has just been named a top U.S. endangered historic site: 11 sites make new list of 'endangered historic places', at CNN.com. It is the only one in California, and it is not NRHP-listed so is not covered by wp:NRHP, so I just added it to this Task force. I'm sorry i have not been able to be active here. I was hopeful about this task force taking off. Have noticed recent edits on the list of California Historic Landmarks page, e.g. someone filling out all the entries for some county. Would working together to make a table format for the California Historic Landmarks, and filling it out completely, be a good idea? I believe that WikiProject NRHP has done very well by creating tables to which photos and info can be added by anyone. doncram (talk) 06:36, 4 January 2010 (UTC)

#FFC94B galore!

Is there anything special about the color #FFC94B? It seems every single list article for every single designation in the state uses this same color (And even Nevada Historical Markers!). The front page of this task force lists many city's landmarks, and I was thinking about adding them to Template:Designation, but if they all use the same color, I think the page will be over run with orange! I think, personally, that only state landmarks should be this color, and all the city designations should be different. If a city landmark is also a state landmark, there is no visual color difference between the two designations, making them seem equal when they aren't. LAHCM, Long beach, etc. need to be changed to a color more closely associated with the individual cities (perhaps city flag colors?) to create a visual difference between the designations. If the colors can be updated, I'd be willing to add many of these designations to the Designation template to allow {{Infobox Historic Site}} to be used on these articles. --Dudemanfellabra (talk) 20:26, 7 January 2010 (UTC)
