Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/Blitzes/October 2014

No, really. What is history? edit

It seems to me that there are far more copyedit-tagged history articles than the 14 listed on the page. While you could debate just how old something needs to be to be history (1973 oil crisis? Battle of Kabul (1992–96)?), surely, say, Elizabeth of York doesn't fall under current events. And then there's Chinese historiography...

Anyway, is the goal to finish just those 14 articles, or should any history article, reasonably construed, be counted in the totals? Tdslk (talk) 19:01, 18 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

I suggested, and created the blitz with, articles tagged as part of WikiProject History on their Talk pages. Even though the oil crisis article is a level-4 article in the History category, it is not tagged with that template on its Talk page for some reason. – Jonesey95 (talk) 00:12, 19 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Running out of articles... edit

As of my timestamp, there's only six History articles left, and I'm about to take the penultimate Album one. I didn't expect the album articles to be so short! Shall we add the oldest month Category:Wikipedia articles needing copy edit from July 2013 to the blitz, or shall we add new Wikiproject cats? I'll be doing some checking of the currently done articles after Tuesday. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 22:06, 20 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Sure. Tdslk (talk) 00:28, 21 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
Unfortunately, the Catscan tool that I used to generate the article list is being updated, and generating the list is not currently working, so I can't check to see if more articles have been added to our list. So I'll find some articles in the History category that are marked for copy edit, and I'll add them to the list. Hold on a few minutes.... – Jonesey95 (talk) 04:58, 21 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
Catscan is working for scanning categories, thank goodness. I hand-picked a few more articles from the History and Albums categories. Don't everyone rush over to History of the hamburger in the United States at once, now. For the record, I also revised the Progress Chart to make it look as if there have always been 41 articles in the starting list. If you have any questions about my methods, please post them on Winston Smith's talk page. – Jonesey95 (talk) 05:15, 21 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
We have always been at war with the Progress Chart! Tdslk (talk) 05:51, 21 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Barnstars edit

I've sent out the barnstars; the table is here. Let me know if I've messed it up somehow! Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 02:46, 28 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! I removed the barnstar given to User:MrWooHoo, since that editor did not edit any articles during the blitz. I probably should have asked here first, but I think we don't give out barnstars to non-participants, even if they have rollover words. If I did that incorrectly, let me know here and I'll revert myself. – Jonesey95 (talk) 04:02, 28 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
That makes sense to me; my understanding was that anyone with rollover words but no blitz edits is awarded the appropriate award but doesn't get to keep any extra words. I've nullified Minipolis's too (sorry!), since she didn't quite qualify for a Modest. Not that she'd be bothered, but still! ;-) I did this manually, and using a mobile phone calculator, so a mistake or three wouldn't surprise me! Thanks for fixes, cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 05:36, 28 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
