ce for section edit

I just copy edited an article that had only one section marked as needing copy editing. Is this eligible for the drive (i.e. should I add it to my list), and if yes, what word count do I use? I'm assuming only the word count of the section? Cheers! Purrshtalk 08:24, 1 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, and you're right that the section copyedit counts. To get the word count for a section, go into edit mode (I don't know if you're using Visual Editor) and click on "Show preview" without making any edits. "Page size", on the left, should then turn from black to blue; click on that for the word count (assuming that you have the word-count script installed). You're good to go; click "Cancel" if you want to copyedit later. Have fun and all the best, Miniapolis 14:11, 1 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
@Miniapolis: When adding the article to the Completed list, do we use the name of the article or do we refer to the section that was edited? - BroVic (talk) 13:49, 9 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
Just the name of the article is fine. I used to add "(section)" until I realized that before Jonesey95 runs Torchiest's script to generate the barnstar chart after the drive, he has to remove all those "(section)"s by hand; the script balks at more than one pair of parentheses on a line :-). Okay. Thanks a lot! - BroVic (talk) 15:31, 9 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Archaeological Museum of Chora edit

Archaeological Museum of Chora contains a detailed description of the museum collection, long direct quotes, and flowery language like "who touched with his pinsel the reconstructions of several sites of Mycenaean and Minoan civilization". Altogether I'm getting the impression that large chunks of this article have been lifted directly from another source. The three references listed (but not used inline) are books that I haven't been able to find online, so I can't confirm my suspicions. Do I continue to edit out the tedious descriptions of which shelf each item is on, or should I take some other action? I've already placed one of the direct quotes on the talk page because it contains spelling errors and I don't know if they were present in the original quote or added in transcription. Thanks, Leschnei (talk) 13:11, 3 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

This article has WAY too much detail and appears to be lifted from a source. It should be cut down to its bare bones. – Jonesey95 (talk) 14:29, 3 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
OK, I'll hack away. Leschnei (talk) 15:41, 3 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Total words calculation edit

When entering 'Total Words', does this refer to the difference after copyediting or is it the total counts of the articles' word count? BroVic (talk) 19:17, 3 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Total words and particular article words are always before any editing. See section above, where deletions will make the final count much lower, but the count at the beginning is used.--DThomsen8 (talk) 20:18, 3 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

3rd Indonesian Choice Awards edit

Why does 3rd Indonesian Choice Awards need copyediting? If it does, consider 2nd Indonesian Choice Awards and 1st Indonesian Choice Awards are much the same as the 3rd.--DThomsen8 (talk) 23:38, 14 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

New Old Articles? edit

Folks have been doing great work clearing out the old articles! With eight days to go and only eleven old articles left, I would like to propose that we add July 2015 to the category. I know we've done this at least once before. This would mean that the July 2015 would now qualify as old articles for leaderboard/bonus word count purposes. (For ease of accounting, if nothing else, it wouldn't be retroactive, so only the remaining 66 articles would count, not any that were done earlier this month.) What do people think? Tdslk (talk) 16:35, 23 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Sounds good to me. All the best, Miniapolis 22:50, 23 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
Done. Great work, everyone! – Jonesey95 (talk) 16:12, 24 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Last call edit

The July copy editing drive has ended. Please make any final edits to your article lists and the leaderboard (it is not updated automatically) in the next 24 hours or so. It is OK to edit your section of the page, and the leaderboard, even though the page is archived.

Barnstars will be distributed in the next few days. Thanks to everyone who participated. – Jonesey95 (talk) 01:04, 1 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Jonesey95: I've updated the notice for the drive on the main page. I've also left a message on the main talk page. MediaKill13 (talk) 08:14, 4 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
