Please check my work edit

I would be very grateful if someone could spot-check some of copy-editing work? I'm a native English speaker, but just want to check I'm doing the right thing... LegesRomanorum (talk) 10:58, 12 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

I checked the longest article you've copyedited so far, and it's fine. Thanks for your help and all the best, Miniapolis 14:21, 12 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Please check my work too edit

I'd appreciate it if someone could check some of my copy-editing work. Thanks. AceSevenFive (talk) 21:38, 16 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Done; please see your talk page. Thanks for your help and all the best, Miniapolis 00:38, 17 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Rollover words from July? edit

I have some rollover words from the July drive, but I (edit: forgot the word "haven't") participated in any drive after that until now. Do I still get to use them? vicyushtalk 03:54, 19 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

No. Rollover words are valid only during the next drive. They are designed in part to keep you coming back to the drives month after month. We love you. Don't ever leave. – Jonesey95 (talk) 07:49, 19 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Regarding leaderboards edit

Are regular members allowed to edit the leaderboard if they've surpassed someone in a given area, or is that the purview of coordinators? AceSevenFive (talk) 21:46, 19 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Anyone is free (and encouraged) to update their own numbers; we coordinators are busy enough :-), but numbers are checked. All the best, Miniapolis 23:34, 19 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Chart template edit

Hi all. There's a chart template available that we could use instead of creating a chart off-site and uploading as an image. There's two advantages: Anyone will be able to edit the charts, and they are accessible to screen readers. Disadvantages: I haven't figured out a way to get them to work well as bar charts, and they don't seem to want to align to the right or stack one atop the other beside the progress chart. Sample line graphs:

Sample bar charts:

You can see why I don't like the bar chart for "Total articles": The progress looks discouragingly miniscule. Comments? — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 23:55, 19 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Cool template, despite its Himalayan learning curve (at least for me :-)). Line graphs would be fine for both charts, if we can get them to align right; I'm surprised there's no alignment parameter. Maybe we can use table syntax to make them align and stack. I really like the fact that they'd be accessible to screen readers. Thanks for a good suggestion and all the best, Miniapolis 14:53, 20 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
I got them to float right using div tags, please see User:Diannaa/sandbox. Not elegant, but it works. It looks okay in Chrome and Safari on my Mac. Will have a peek when I get to work and make sure it displays okay on a PC running Windows. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 15:28, 20 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
Cool! Lfstevens (talk) 15:45, 20 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
Adding: It looks okay on my PC at work. — Diannaa (talk) 20:49, 20 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
Thanks again, Diannaa. I tried adding floatleft to the progress-chart table, but there seems to be no getting rid of that whitespace (table syntax and HTML tags are weak points here, though). It's an overall improvement, though. All the best, Miniapolis 00:20, 21 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
I made each graph a bit smaller in my sandbox (after accidentally editing Diannaa's :-)); maybe that would help them line up better, and it's real easy to update day by day. Time for a smoke test, I guess. All the best, Miniapolis 21:36, 21 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

() It's in, although I hate all that whitespace. Please tweak as needed and Diannaa, I'm glad the esoteric-file era is ending :-). Thanks again and all the best, Miniapolis 21:46, 21 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

... and I've restored the original graph sizes (since the damn things won't float) and centered them. Corrections welcome; at least we can update them with the daily. All the best, Miniapolis 22:03, 21 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

() This should make life easier for coords and will save some time and effort. If no-one objects I'll move this thread to the main GOCE talk page for future reference; it looks too useful to be hidden away on a drive talk page. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 22:51, 21 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Since it's specific to the drives, maybe it should go to WT:GOCE/DRIVE. Thanks and all the best, Miniapolis 23:20, 21 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
... and FWIW, I finally got 'em to line up with {{Left}} and {{Right}}. All the best, Miniapolis 15:42, 22 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
Good point, I'll copy it over in a bit; I've no objection to the original discussion remaining here. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 19:59, 22 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
It can probably stay here, since I can't see us having to revisit this in the foreseeable future. All the best, Miniapolis 23:58, 22 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
Layout of graphs can be controlled using either {{div col}} closed with {{div col end}}, or {{col-begin}} / {{col-break}} closed with {{col end}}. I've done this on the current drive page; the graphs were overlapping the progress chart in my older, Javascript-disabled browser. It looks better now; please check it renders properly for yourselves. A bit later I'll add graph templates thus formatted to the drive and blitz page-creation templates. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 20:30, 24 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
Done; the graph code is now on {{GOCE-new-drive-page}}. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 05:06, 25 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
Thanks very much, Baffle; I was wondering how we were going to integrate it into the March drive :-). All the best, Miniapolis 15:16, 25 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

() Miniapolis, I restored the formatting that you removed here, because without it the second graph overlaps the progress chart in my browser, and in Firefox it renders far right. Did the columns i added cause you problems? If so, feel free to re-remove it if it does, then we can discuss other formatting solutions (HTML tables, wikitables, etc). I can e-mail screenshots if necessary. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 00:47, 29 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

No problem, Baffle, and screenshots certainly not necessary. I thought the problem was with tonight's update; there was an extra pipe, which put the latest stats in a different column. I removed that and the pipe-dash at the bottom; doing the latter screwed up my graphs (also in FF), and restoring it (before the table-closing pipe-bracket) fixed it for reasons I do not understand :-). All the best, Miniapolis 02:55, 29 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Sousa (surname) edit

To me, Sousa (surname) does not need any copyediting, but GoCE editors may find something. If not, please remove the tag.--DThomsen8 (talk) 15:15, 29 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Done. – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:49, 29 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Last call edit

The January copy editing drive has ended. Please make any final edits to your article lists and the leaderboard (it is not updated automatically) in the next 24 hours or so. It is OK to edit your section of the page, and the leaderboard, even though the page is archived.

Barnstars will be distributed in the next few days. Thanks to everyone who participated. We had another record-breaking month! – Jonesey95 (talk) 00:08, 1 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
